Devs are leaving NP3

StrikeTeamStrikeTeam Member Posts: 69

Take a look at this post, from a pioneer and a former fan living in la reunion.

http://www.darkandlight.net/forums/showthread.php?t=68166

Here's a quick and rough translation of what he says:

Enough lies! Let's make things clear, I have to things to say to make things move:

The game is a real commercial disaster, and the first months of release are a beta  (as seen
here).

Indeed, let's call a cat a cat: we paid 60 euros to betatest this game.

So here's my question:

If I did not pay 60 euros to beta test DnL, what did I pay for?

The second thing (and it's been itching me for weeks):

Many devs left NP3 these last few weeks. Some of the forum members know it, AD knows it, but no one talks about it.

I was trying to keep a low profile up until now, because I did not want
to make things worse, but after so many weeks of stasis, I had to
release some steam.

They pretend to be reinforcing the team, but this is a lie. As I said
previously, several devs left the team recently (some who are said to
be on holidays wont come back, others simply left), and Farlan refuses
to recruit anyone.
Farlan want to get the money they invested in the game back, but that's
not going to happen if they are not putting some more into the game to
make it worth playing. Apparently they found a solution in Asia, but I
don't know how the whole thing is going to turn out.

Let me tell you the mood at the NP3 studios is rather dark.

The last announcement they made could be seen as a positive thing, but
in fact it is just another lie, they are not reinforcing the team, they
are rebuilding it.

Of course this is going to take a lot of time and the spirit of DnL as we knew is going to disappear.

I don't know if it is going to be a good thing or bad thing (compared to the DnL "paper" project)

But I wanted the community to know all this.

I had promised myself not to post that kind of info anymore,
considering the things that happened the last time i did it, but this
announcement was the last straw.

For those of you who do not believe me, feel free to express yourself, but do not call me a liar, thanks.

So, anyone wants to volunteer to post that on the english forums in a brand new thread?
I cant do that, I'm banned over there.

Some devs left huh? They can't possibly have been any good. I mean seriously, look at the state of the game from when these devs were still employed.

I still say, with a good team of talented devs this game could be good. Not that I'm holding my breath or anything. I just know that the devs they did have were worth squat, so their leaving isn't exactly a bad thing.

According to their news email with the 3 months free, they are also getting 40 more people to help work on DnL.
I wonder if they are blowing smoke.

Wont it take some time before the new programmers know how to program the code for DnL?

Well considering that the current ones don't know how to code it how will a new one learn to code it?

The terrain code has them baffled and all they do is bad mouth _Pix_ when it is mentioned since they never properly acquired the rights to it so they can't re-work it.

I wonder how many of the devs that have left in the last few years also are the ones that wrote the rest of the code and did an improper documentation job with it so they basically have a bowl of spaghetti code and no roadmap to straighten out the mess.

Again, just shows how much they truly dont understand the technology and its use that they stole and claim as theirs. Seems to me the creators of something ought to know how to work with it doncha think? now to bring on board a bunch of others (supposedly) to try and make it work? Pfft! GET A CLUE FARLAN/NP3!!!!

No matter what you do now, you blew it!! Totally, completely, utterly BLEW IT! Your credibility is -0-. Your fanbase is -0-. Your name and reputations are  -0-.  You are the kicked cur of the mmorpg community that begs for more. I am sure you have heard of the story of Peter and the Wolf? If not, please do as soon as you can. There is a lesson there that can be taken in the many avenues you have chosen to travel through in the deceitful odyssey you have mapped. (speaking of maps........)

Dang! That song about mr. grinch just popped in my head...youre a mean one Mr. Grinch....acck!

You make a good point.  If you have a group of people that build houses, and every one of those houses falls over after being built, why would you be upset when that group leaves?

Umm, cuz...cuz...finding people that incompetent, inept and with a woeful lack of wit about them is too hard to try to piece back together and thus the gravy train has really, finally down to dripping its last grizzle?

When a game sucks as bad as this one... news that the devs are leaving should be a good thing.     Any change at this point would be better than no change.   Not that it is going to matter much.

The 40 new people might mean the devs are just making 40 new usernames to post on the forums or they hope to hire 40 more fanboys to post lies on the forums.

Either way it means nothing.  The game has been dead for over 2 years now there is no saving it.  With a real dev team and a decent budget and a total overhaul of the game and its core systems this game could be in a releaseable form by 2010. But what company would buy a game with graphics that are already 4-5 years out of date that needs 3+ years of development just to release it.  Of course nobody. With Farlan working on this game it will never be in a releasable form.  There is nothing they can do to save this game other than releasing the code to the public and letting players finish making the game themselves.

Darkfall has a lot of similarity to DnL.  I was excited about both games in 2002 and 2003.  I gave up on both games in 2004.  Both have been in development forever.  Both most likely don't have a big enough budget or the number of developers to make a mmorpg.  But thats about where the similarities end.  Darkfall does not have the dishonest devs, they don't overpromise, and their design appears to be much more realistic and sound.  Is darkfall vaporware?  Most likely, but its hard not to root for the Darkfall devs as they have a nice story of 4 guys starting the game in one of their basements in Norway.  That and they appear to be nice guys who are making Darkfall because they enjoy playing games.  Would I encourage anyone to play Darkfall or be excited about it?  No.  Its most likely doomed for failure.  But again the major difference is the company running the game is likeable and someone who would be good to root for.  If people are going to support Darkfall they just need to do it with their eyes wide open and with the proper expectation that most likely it will be a very bad game.  Otherwise they are likely to be very dissapointed.  I have no problem with supporting or subidizing small developers with good intentions even if their game is bad.  They just need to be  honest and treat their customers with a lot more respect than Farlan.

Funny is that their latest new post is about "The Remains of the Vanished Civilisations" could be a direct
    fingerpoint to their disappeared community

Thats an interesting question Pred. Typically biz savvy chinese and DNL. It doesnt fit does it? I wonder just how much of the truth they REALLY know?

And if you believe in karma --- DNL taking this game and having a 'partnership' with them, in a country that does not respect IP rights ---- it could just be the karmic step that DNL made to have this slapped right back in their laps. Farlan has already proven that they certainly arent even close to being savvy biz people and instead implement high school hijinks in much of what they do. What goes around comes around in my book and it certainly does appear that the DNL gang may have just put one foot in the quicksand they created.

Remains of the Vanished Civilization -- hmm how apropo. Mayhaps AD has had a moment of quiet clarity and lucidity? BAH! too grand for them to have finally figured it out and made a statement regarding this game. I am sure they now are probably trying to figure out why ppl are laughing at the latest post.

This is bad.  It's like driving a lawn mower over an ant hill.

    blank

  • Devs jumping off the train. Is it they see the debris from the wreck they created reminds them of Humpty Dumpty?

Too bad the Farlan cant accept that Humpty cant be put back together again eh?
