I am no star Wars fan....at all! In fact the Star Wars licence put me off trying the game untill I was sure about 6 months had passed and the worst Star-wars-kiddies had gone, and the worst bugs were gone.
I am playing this game because its FUN, It has kick ass graphics and it is something I can play 4 hours a day and actually walk away from it with a good feeling that I have acomplished a medium of development on my toon, wich is what games like this should be about!
In stead of a futile excercise in camping you ass off for phnatz, which is as soul destroying as it is booring, but seems to be the main critiria of "good" games on these boards.
I am a Star Wars fan. Still, I don't think that SOE did a good job with SWG. There is some interesting points, but in the overall, the game has too much problem for me to pay and play. Oh well, maybe next time!
The game is total crap. I will be suprised if the game is around next year. World of Warcraft, EQ2, Lineage 2, Ultima X, and Guild Wars are all coming out next year, games like SWG will go by the waste side.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered! My life is my own!

It is likely that evey game that comes out htis year will also be crap. It is also likely that SWG will be around for a long time because it won't be crap. Not that WoW will always be crap, it is just the nature of online games. They have varying degrees of sucess at launch, but most of them adapt and become good games. I do not deny that much was lacking in SWG when it was released, but did anyone play AO when it came out? Have you played it lately? It is a much better game. You can complain about it all you want, but SWG is a good game and keeps getting better. They do screw stuff up sometimes such as giving away holos for christmas or really even the introduction of Holocrons. Still, I have played since the first day and I still play and will for a little while longer at least. Finally, there is one thing that I think will garantee the sucess of SWG and that is the fact that it is Sci-Fi rather than fantasy. Many people prefer this and there is little to choose from in that regard.
There is not a chance in hell it will stay around. SWG cannot compete with all the new MMORPGs (especially WoW or EQ2). Have you seen the reviews on the game! Computer gaming world gave it coaster of the year. SWG was considered the biggest let down of the year in most pc mags-its already a failure. There are actually quite a few mmo games that are great from launch- UO or FFXI. Its getting "better" is no excuse for the awful SWG launch. Adding a few features (like player-run cities and a few Jedi) is not going to bring people back to the game. If I wanta be a jedi, i'll play a quality game like Knights of the Old Republic or Jedi Knight 2. I would hardly call the game "sci-fi"; it is more like EQ in space with wookie dancers. Its just a fantasy game/leveling tread-mill set in the future. SWG is in decline and it will be a uphill battle from here.

CGW gave it coaster of the year, but MANY other mags gave it high marks. Heck, it has a 7.4 rating here which says to me that alot of this site's visitors think it's above average. It has its problems, but it's been shaping up to be a better game quite nicely. The addition of the Imperial Crackdown was a much needed add-on and makes the world seem that much more "Star Warsy" than it did before.
My only gripe is I wish they'd hammer out some more bugs before the next round of content updates. With the Droid Invasion right around the corner, and bugs from LAUNCH (as well as bugs from all the updates thereafter) that haven't been fixed, it's gonna be a bug BBQ and we're all invited!
SWG is certainly not pure crap. I just think it needs more tweaking to be great... just like every other great game did. EQ suffered similar problems at its launch, and now look at it.
It also won't be disappearing any time soon. The Star Wars license alone will probably help it live on for quite a long time.
It's too bad EA "fixed" UO so much. It's nearly unplayable now.
Last time I checked that was a C-(average). Not only that but the user rating for the game was 6.3 or a D-(from gamerankings-same place you got 7.4). If I'm going to pay 13 dollars a month, I want a product that is better than average or below average. Bad Value=Crap

The highest ranked game here is an 8.1, a mere .5 above the rating for SWG. Are you gonna tell me the best game out there (according to these rankings) sucks because it barely makes a "B?" and not the "A" that's expected of it? NO game is ever gonna get that coveted 9.0+ ranking as long as averages are invloved. That 7.6 tells me that most people that played it enjoyed it on some level. The real losers (to me anyway) are the ones that can't even break the 5.0 barrier (not that I have the $$ to play more than a few MMORPGs at a time).
A game's rating is only as good as the desires and expectations of the person ranking it, and without an intimate knowledge of that person's inner-workings, said rating is more or less useless. I've played numerous games that I "Just have to try" only to be disappointed. It's bound to happen. If it's not what you expect or want from a game, then rate it low, or if you like it rate it accordingly (I gave SWG an 8.0 for the record). Odds are, the average MMORPGer is bound to get some entertainment out of it.
Either way, I like it and don't care too much about what that mag thinks of it. They'll probably give the next FPS Doom-clone "Game of the Year" anyway.

Most SWG boards have been spamed to death with horriable user rating- Hell just look here for a example http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion.cfm/loadforum/433/loadthread/6179/setstart/1/loadclass/103. All of this is before the 10 MMORPGs come this next year.

What do you want me to say? You don't like the game, big deal. I do. And yes, when I post on a web site and use the term "here," odds are I'm referring to the place I'm posting at.
Where do you see (again, still here on MMORPG.com) FFXI and EQ being rated over 8.1? When I look at the game list, DAoC is highest rated at 8.1 and SWG is rated at 7.4 (I was off by .2 earlier... my bad).
"Most SWG boards have been spamed to death with horriable user rating" Like most things, it's always the people that don't like something that shout out the most about it. Sadly, that's what ruined UO. For each person that doesn't care for the game, there's probably one person who still does, and thus has no reason to write something about it. Message boards are never full of praise, because the only people that write on them are the scorned few who have something to complain about. Go to a site like epinions.com, or any other consumer reporting site, and you'll see the negative reviews outnumbering the glowing ones -- and that goes for any product or service reviewing system. People generally only write something when they feel they have a reason to, like when they're disappointed.
My point is, if you don't like it, then save your $13 for something else. Don't spend it on something you vocally dislike just so you can complain about it (as it seems many people do for some reason). And by "you" I don't mean you specifically, I'm using that as a term for anyone who may be paying to play while they're dissatisfied with the product. You're only ripping yourself off if you continue to pay the fees while being disappointed by the game.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I would have to say that I am one of the many who was/is disappointed with SWG and its lack of content. I was looking for a robust game which would challenge me, unfortunately I didnt find that in SWG.
I Beta tested the game so when it was released and the servers actually worked I had a fairly easy time establishing myself as well as my PA, ITEC on Tarquinas. We were one of the top five PAs to build a Guild Hall, which is quite the accomplishment. Then I focused on making my character the best he could be. I reached the professions of Doctor and Creature Handler. But after each accomplishment I was left with the same question, What next?
Unfortunately at the time the quests werent engaging enough and neither was the GCW. However, as all MMORPGs do, it evolved. They added content and new challenges, but for me it was a little too late. I am still gun shy from my first experience and a little hesitant to jump back in. I am not currently in-game because I am stuck behind a Firewall but I find myself constantly asking, Will I return once I have the opportunity? And, sadly, it is an un-enthusiastic yes. The only thing which is convincing me to go back is my PA, ITEC. But can they sustain my interest in SWG? Its doubtful.
I guess the point to my post is this: most people are just like me, gun shy from their initially bad experience with SWG and are extremely hesitant to go back. SOE must make an effort to encourage people to revisit this lost game before it becomes forgotten. SWG isnt crap, but it certainly isnt gold either.
Originally posted by Zombie-F CGW gave it coaster of the year, but MANY other mags gave it high marks. Heck, it has a 7.4 rating here which says to me that alot of this site's visitors think it's above average.
If you take the ratings on these forums seriously, then I have some property to sell you in Guam.
Last week, UO has the highest marks. While UP was a good game for its time, it's almost considered a pacman of sorts.
Don't base a game on it's rating......look at the user's comments instead.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
Weird. I replied to this earlier, and even saw the post displayed afterwards. Wonder where it went?
So, what you're saying is I shouldn't take the ratings that you and your fellow forum members here spent time on seriously? Then why bother having a ratings system at all? I tend to think user ratings are more honest, as magazines can be biased towards products made by their parent company or biased against a competitor's product.
Regardless, I'm not saying SWG is the greatest game. I like it, and think it has potential, and much like EVERY MMORPG released before it, it's suffering from being pushed out the door too soon by the people funding the project. Eventually bugs will get squashed, content will get added, things will move more smoothly (at least I'd like to think so).
I'm just a bit curious... do you still play? If so, how come you still do so? Is it so you can pay for the right to complain?
I also see alot of people here holding WoW to high standards, probably the same high standards that many of you held SWG to prior to its release. What happens when that gets released and suffers the same kinds of problems SWG does? I'll be right here to rag on it.
"Don't base a game on it's rating......look at the user's comments instead."- LOL-just look at this boards rating-gamerankings user rating and another other swg board(look at the VN boards for example). I have some friends and my dad been to Guam, they all say it is a great place to live. Anyway, we are not arguing whether you like SWG or not, I frankly dont care but all I'm saying that SWG is not long for the world or its going to turn into AC2(empty but running game). I do not pay for SWG anymore. And about WoW, the game is either going to be really good or really bad-I dont care because I'm not a fan of warcraft. I would much rather see either Ultima X or Lineage 2 do well. One last thing, why do you guys hate UO so much. It WAS the only altertaive to EQ(or EQ clones) for awhile.

Pretty much; yes. The rating system is seriously flawed. The admins have done a good job getting it better, but anyone can vote straight 1's and never played the game.
Then why bother having a ratings system at all? I tend to think user ratings are more honest, as magazines can be biased towards products made by their parent company or biased against a competitor's product.
People here are just as dishonest as the Magazines. Just play the game and if you like it then you like and it you hate then you hate it

I completley agree with you. however, I only liked it for the first 2 months of gameplay.
I'm just a bit curious... do you still play? If so, how come you still do so? Is it so you can pay for the right to complain?
I played from May to December. I stopped playing it because i knew (my opinion) the game was going nowhere). I think i have the right to complain because I paid 50 bucks plus 14.95 for a POS product. Again, my opinion. If you paid 15 bucks for a Prime Rib and then complained about it because it was rotten, then the Managers only microwaved it and gave you the same rotten steak, you will tell people about your bad experience. It's human nature.
I also see alot of people here holding WoW to high standards, probably the same high standards that many of you held SWG to prior to its release. What happens when that gets released and suffers the same kinds of problems SWG does? I'll be right here to rag on it.
Again, I completly agree with you. While I, myself, will play WoW, it may end up rather bad. No one knows yet
Nah SWG isn't "pure crap" it's crap mixed with some eye candy graphics and sound, but yes if you take away that stuff...yeah it's crap lol. People still play it because most are waiting for something new. I don't believe SWG will fade away...like with all games there's going to be a cult following, but will that number of loyal players be enough for SOE to keep a fulltime dev team going at it? Guess we'll have to wait and see.

You will be done advancing your toon in one month.
i never bothered when it came out cuz my computer coudlnt handle it and im not a huge star wars fan
when i upgraded my computer, i didnt bother with it because i go to forums and can read
about 2 weeks ago i was so bored with nothing to play exept a ryzom beta(ugh) so i went to buy ff, and they were out. so i bought swg against my better judgement
anyway, on to the point, dont read forums. this game isn't perfect im sure but im having a blast, its different enough from most of the other mmorpg i have played that its interensting.
i dont know how ill feel in a month, but so far i have a house in a player made town, a mountable pet, a speederbike swoop and im loving it. theres tons more to do than just go out and kill mobs to lvl up like most of the mmorpg's out there, and i suggest if ur bored picking this game up.
i think the biggest downfall of this game, not the biggest draw as most say, is the star wars name. if this game was a no-name title from some obscure company, i gaurentee tons more people would be singing the praises of this game.
if u listen to forums you wont be playing any game becasue they all suck, unless they havent been released yet , in which case they are all the greatest thing since leather underwear.

LOL I'm sorry you are right about the eye candy thing. The only other thing that isn't crap either is that a month abo if was free for a month. Haha maybe that just goes to show that to get people to play they made free. Oh and guess what even when it was free I didn't bother to play it again because that would be a total waste of my time, Hmm play SWG or FFXI not a hard choice.

Hello you who are experienced with MMORPGs.
Every successfull MMORPG has a free period to play. As welll as NEW free periods to play....
EQ is the most famous one for having who knows how many free chances to play it. And it is the most successfull world wide MMORPG. 100 bucks to anyone who can name now many Free trial periods EQ has sent out over and over and over again and again. LOL!
AC also has NEW free periods to play. AO also has many NEW free periods to play.
So if you are going to harp on SWG for having free trials, don't be a hypocrite... go all the way.. denounce EQ, AC, AO, and others! Heck , I dare ya to post the same on their forums changing the name "SWG" to the other game's names.
Originally posted by fulmanfu i think the biggest downfall of this game, not the biggest draw as most say, is the star wars name. if this game was a no-name title from some obscure company, i gaurentee tons more people would be singing the praises of this game. if u listen to forums you wont be playing any game becasue they all suck, unless they havent been released yet , in which case they are all the greatest thing since leather underwear.
I could not have said it better myself.
I have allready played for 1½Month and I am not done with my Toon at all...You see, thats the thing about this game. You do not marry whatever professions you start out with, and thats what make this game controversial. I am sure not even the most hardcore powergamers out there could do half the professions in one month.
Sure SWG has issues, but not more than any other game I have played of this genre before.
What I have been doing besides lvling my Toon:
1: Pvp I never get tired of that one, and I love that you can pvp everywere in SWG. I still suck at it, but Ill get better in time
2: Building a PA. As a former guild leader and General in AO, I can really appriciate the tools that SWG provides me as a leader, to plan, excecute raids and the guildhouse and city I live in make community building in my PA a walk in the park.
3 Exploring, hunting and helping my freinds. I think thats pretty much a stable in every mmorpg.
4: I roleplay. Its great that you dont have to pick powergaming OR roleplaying, like so many other mmorpgs. In SWG I can do both, and its a welcome change and a lot of fun.
I dont really wanna become a Jedi under the current system, because It makes players grind professions, in stead of playing them. When the Jedi system changes, becoming more quest oriented, sure Ill give it a crack. Will this make the game less Star Warsy?
I really could not care less because I am into Sci Fi and not so much Star Wars. I like the old Star Wars movies but I really dont know a lot of the lore and when in the timeline Jedis became rare, and whatnot. For me the Jedi profession is a powergamers profession, and prolly a pvp profession as well.
how long will this game keep me interested?
Well, compared to AO (after 6 months), when I started playing that, it absolutely shines, and I was in AO for 3 years, watching it evolve. I will definetly try WoW , even if its not Sci Fi, but I really like what they are trying to do. I have not married SWG and have no intentions to marry a game and make it devour my life. If I play it for 5-6 months before I get tired of playing it, Ill consider it a good investment of my time. many fond memories allready.
Oh, the space expansions sounds very good also. I hope they do a good job on that one.

I would have to say that I am one of the many who was/is disappointed with SWG and its lack of content.
To strive, to seek, to find and not to yield.
If you take the ratings on these forums seriously, then I have some property to sell you in Guam.
Last week, UO has the highest marks. While UP was a good game for its time, it's almost considered a pacman of sorts.
Don't base a game on it's rating......look at the user's comments instead.

I just want to put my two cents in...
THIS GAME IS ABSOLUTE CRAP I WAS SOO DISSAPOINTED WHEN I GOT IT.
There that was my two cents thank you
Nah SWG isn't "pure crap" it's crap mixed with some eye candy graphics and sound, but yes if you take away that stuff...yeah it's crap lol.
Then what?

i never bothered when it came out cuz my computer coudlnt handle it and im not a huge star wars fan
when i upgraded my computer, i didnt bother with it because i go to forums and can read
about 2 weeks ago i was so bored with nothing to play exept a ryzom beta(ugh) so i went to buy ff, and they were out. so i bought swg against my better judgement
anyway, on to the point, dont read forums. this game isn't perfect im sure but im having a blast, its different enough from most of the other mmorpg i have played that its interensting.
i dont know how ill feel in a month, but so far i have a house in a player made town, a mountable pet, a speederbike swoop and im loving it. theres tons more to do than just go out and kill mobs to lvl up like most of the mmorpg's out there, and i suggest if ur bored picking this game up.
i think the biggest downfall of this game, not the biggest draw as most say, is the star wars name.
if this game was a no-name title from some obscure company, i gaurentee tons more people would be singing the praises of this game.
if u listen to forums you wont be playing any game becasue they all suck, unless they havent been released yet , in which case they are all the greatest thing since leather underwear.
