Yes i had heard that, quite unfortunate really, actually it plain out sucks, seeing as atlantis is really the knockoff version. Oh well, maybe they can continue the storyline via StarGate Worlds.
While I'm sad to see it go, I rejoice at the fact that it had a good run. And let's face it: They've really kind of run out of ideas. RDA's final season was just pathetic, and while things were interesting last season, this season it's really taken a quality downturn and become a little too campy. The cloned Ba'al invasion was just plain dumb, and that 200th episode was a major disappointment to me. Yeah, I laughed at various parts of it but it just felt...off. Couple that with the fact that I'm just not really feelin' the Ori and...yeah.
Anyhow, here's to hoping for a long and healthy run for Atlantis, which has clearly surpassed SG-1 as the better show. There's still a lot that one can offer, and I really prefer the casting to it (especially Weir, Sheppard and Rodney) to the recent additions of SG-1 (Beau Bridges, the hologram from Voyager, and Mitchell...I like Valla).
blah the 200th episode was great if you ask me. I just cant understand what Sci Fi is doing over there, oh wait yes I can there idiots. I mean SG basicly made evening television for Sci Fi (it sure as hell wasnt there stupid B movies) and this is what it gets in return.. SG-1 is a good TV show, more then I can say for there current crap they have on like Eureka (or whatever its called), that stupid arse Super hero fiasco, and Pro Wrestling???!!!!....
I just really dont understand what there doing over there at Sci-FI I mean if putting Wrestling on wasnt bad enough now they pull this crap. If they had half a brain over there running things they would understand that SG-1, SG-A, and BSG are their 3 best shows and they would move them to a different day instead of putting them on Friday ( you now the day when everyone wants to get the F out of the damn house not sit at home and watch TV). The need to understand that the low rating for those 3 shows is not due to them being bad but its due to the fact that there shown on the worst freaking day of the week.

The BEST show Sci-Fi has is one they bought from Showtime--and it's not SG-1. It's Dead Like Me. Best show of the last decade, and Showtime axed it because the show was too intelligent for their viewers (who prefer "Weeds, apparently--and people were surprised when "Huff" didn't cut it) I'm still hoping against hope that they resurrect that show like they did SG-1, though I'm not sure it would translate too well to "censored" cable.
Yeah it sucks that SG-1 is leaving, it has been a great show for the last decade. Also no other sci-fi show has lasted as long, even the ever popular friends, seinfield, etc has to close down eventually, but name another sci-fi that lasted as long? Star Treks were about 7, Babylon-5 was how long? farscape? etc
Some of the new cast don't have the same feeling as the old, and losing o'neill, hammond, the hot doc, for beau bridges, and crighton...uh..what's his name. Only Valla is a welcome addition, claudia is hawt Shame, but they'll forever be remembered, and how many times can you save the world in secret?
Dollar to a doughnut some cast ie carter, and jackson, cross over to Atlantis where the series will live on, for another 6 years... hopefully.
SWTOR. Face it, in the Scooby Doo Mystery Solving Van of coolness, this game is Velma. In this current MMO climate it has about as much chance for survival as a group of inquisitive teenagers in a 1980s slasher flick. -Tardcore May, 2011
While I'm sorry to see the show end, 10 years is still a pretty good run for ANY show. I thinks it's time for them to bow out gracefully. I miss RDA humor and while Browder and Caudia Black are good additions, the can never fill in for Jack O'Neill. Just remember wht Paramount did to Star Trek!! That and the Ori aren't nearly as cool as the Goa'uld! The Ori are nothing more than Jesiuts on steriods!!
My only wonder is what will Michael Shanks do for a living since his whole life has centered around SG-1?
He's played the same character for 10 years. Can ya say typed casted??
Chill out people.. This only means that it wont be on Sci-Fi any longer. We've been down this road when Showtime cancelled it and look what happened. I guarantee you another channel will pick up the series. I'm betting on FX since they've been trying to delve into original programming with little success a program with a 1.9 average rating looks pretty good to a cable channel like that. This will actually insure the longevity of the program and probably give us that other 10 years the cast members are hoping for through staff turnover. Alot of people don't understand why shows get cancelled after such a long run. It's the price of the people behind the scenes. They are all union and every year a show runs they are due bonuses and raises. If the show goes into hiatus for a few months and they have to hire new people behind the scenes it means the profitability comes back. Don't fear the show is far to popular to truly die.

Si-FI will never let it go. There will be no NEW episodes. If you do see it on another channel, it will be reruns.
What this smells like to me is...they are making room for something new. They still have Atlantice, and Battlestar, they added Dead like me (Great fucking show) and im hoping they will add new episodes to that.
I think, we have seen SG-1 run its course, expect to see them on Atlantice those...and expect to see something else come to SI-FI.
im hoping its.. in this order.
1. New LEXX
2. New Firefly
3. New Farscape!

Sci Fi doesn't own its rights. It was merely ordering the shows from it's production company. As i said it used to be on showtime.. it used to be on sci fi.. who know's how many more channels it will go through. I predict 10 more years of stargate.. mainly because thats what the actors and directors want.
The last several seasons haven't been very good, in my opinion. They weren't bad but you could kind of sense that they were phoning it in. Let's face it, the cast isn't getting any younger either.
I'm very sad that the show is cancelled and I'm sure going to miss it and I will support the www.savestargatesg1.com campain even though I know its futile. I will ofcourse watch the show if they find another outlet for it. And I will buy season 10 on dvd.
What I will not do is boycot SCI-FI or even talk bad about them. I understand perfectly why they pulled the plug on it.
After 10 seasons the ratings began to drop, and the production cost went to a never before seen level, due in part to rising cast salarys. Futhermore Atlantis and BSG also have rising production costs and Eureka is not cheap to produce.
The franchise is in no danger what so ever though as it remains MGMs most valued asset, even more then the ever charming James Bond.
So instead of blaming SCI-FI for a sound decision, however painful, lets look to the future and see what we can do for the franchise. Buy dvds and keep tuning in to the remaining episodes and support Atlantis as well.
Just my two (euro)-cents

i must admit that stargate has run its course, i would love to see another series from the perpective of another race, like stargate: Tok'ra or Stargate: Unas or do a back tracking thing like star trek did and do stargate: Birth of the system lords or even better stargate: jaffa, well i dont care as long as its mroe stargate without the crapness of atlantis, which for me was terrible, it was like.... errr..... well like most sequels it was terrible.
heaven and earth are ruthless, and treat the myriad creatures as straw dogs
I think SG1 is over. Unless another network tries to pick it up with an entirely new cast. I just don't see how anyone can afford the production costs of SG1 with it's current cast. Them thar folks are expensive.
I do foresee MGM putting out movies based on SG1, however... THAT is probably where it's headed next. The TV series (For SG1) has pretty much run it's course. I hope a lot of the talented writers get moved over to Atlantis so we get better scripts with that one.
As for Sci-Fi? I heard they picked up several more sci-fi shows (Enterprise being one of them). Enterprise had a REALLY rocky start but in it's 3rd season it was finally starting to live up to it's potential. IMO Paramount pulled the plug a little too soon. I was really getting interested there at the end. The first season sucked (then again so did the first season of TNG) The 2nd season was 'so so' and the 3rd season was actualy pretty interesting. I'd love to have seen what they could have done with it in a 4th and 5th season. If the rumor that Sci-Fi picked up enterprise is true (and if it's more than just syndicated re-runs) then I will be happy to watch that.
I also think one of the BIG things that is hurting sci-fi is their scheduling. BSG, SG1 and Atlantis should be spread out over 3 days of the week, not all on the same night. They shoulda done Tues-Wed-Thurs and stuck Eureka on Monday so 4 nights out of the week we'd have quality shows on Sci Fi. (Then again the jury is still out on Eureka... I'm interested for now... but the scripts REALLY need to get better or I'm gonna stop bothering to watch it)

Lets not sugar coat it - series 4-9 were a pile of crap. But Im really into series 10, Having ascended beings as enemies is a stroke of genius, hopefully the dvd sales of series 10 will convince them otherwise.

Mark my words. Season 11 will arrive next October. The first few seasons were a hodge podge of ideas jumping all over incoherently( i still liked it though ). It's only the last few seasons that have had a coherent plot line that builds the characters into believable people. The current storyline is one of the best saga's ever told on TV. Give the new guys a few seasons to build their characters and you'll see a new blossoming of this show. This show is not dead. Will not die. It will spawn movies for the next 10 years. Theres even talk of a 3rd Stargate series starting next year. You doomsayers crack me up.
i want to say that stargate sg-1 is not canceled, only have lose the licence with their actual tv chanel, and they want to create a new concept of stargate sg-1, for have more pleople that want to see stargate.
PD: i´m spanish and i can´t write in english very well
I prefer atlantis. Stargate was good until o'neill left. Don't get me wrong, stargate sg-1 is still better than most shows but they ran out of ideas. Daniel Jackson will be going to atlantis, no doubt. I like claudia black and I would like to see her in Atlantis in some way.

Why? Nobody knows anything about them except for the Asgard, and they're not talking. It's possible that the Atlantis crew could run in to them, or the new series that MGM is hoping to spawn from the movie might even center on them.
Or, Robert Cooper might decide he just wants to torture eveyone for 10 more years, and we'll never get to really see them.

Although I am bummed, I am glad I get an hour of my Friday nights back. I'd be willing to bet SG:A carries on it's current trend of popping in and out of SGC with appearances by some of our old SG1 friends. The question is, will we see SG1 movies roll out like Star Trek now?

I agree Stargate SG1 jumped the shark well before they defeated Anubis and the Replicators.
I loved Stargate, but it has been on a decline since Michael Shanks left and was replaced by Parker Lewis
I was glad when he came back, but that whole ascended/descended thing should have been the end of SG1.
Stargate without RDA really isn't that good, no matter who they add. I do like Claudia, but she is wasted on the show.
I just hope they tied everything up nicely, like having RDA come back and having him kill the Ori.
