My impressions, take em or leave em

To start off.. I played this game for one day. I didnt get heavy into PvP or do high level raids, or high lvl anything for that matter. I have not been anticipating being able to get into beta ..because I didnt know this game existed until a couple days ago. The purpose of this thread is NOT to flame the people that like this game. Just like the thread title reads .. this is stuff that I see... my opinions.. take it or leave it.

Character creation: I dont know if they are planning on adding more options later or not. But, they would have to add ALOT more character creation options for me to give a rat's ass about playing this game. Starting out in the noob area was like walking around in a house of mirrors.. everyone looked the same. I have difficulty playing a NEW game that goes backwards in features compared to other mmorpgs that have been out for years (swg, COV = excellent char. creation)

Graphics: I could live with the graphics. .. they were not the best Ive seen, but they were certainly good enough for me to play the game.

Movement/ combat feel: This is what was the biggest deal breaker for me. I absolutly hate point and click movement games. I know I'm not alone in this opinion, which makes me wonder why the makers of a new mmo would not simply give the option for point to click, or using the standard movement keys (wasd). Again.. this is the year 2006...its a game in beta .. that will soon be realeased, why not make a game with more features, instead of making one with the same amount, or less features?

COMBAT FEEL WTH? : When I say "combat feel", I'm talking about what I consider to be a fun, somewhat realistic feel to combat. Everyone may have a different version of what "combat feel" is considered "good" to them. For me, I hold all other games to the "combat feel" of COV, and  secondly WoW. What does that mean? In COV. when you hit an enemy.. it feels like you actually hit them. Because the enemy doesnt just stand there with a damage number coming out of his head. He moves as if he was really hit. When your character does a knockdown attack.. the enemy actually falls to the ground, and spends a second getting back up. There isnt the same stupid "dagger stabbing" animation during the whole  fight. Spells have cool effects and look as if the caster is actually preparing to cast a spell. IMO.. COV accomplishes this the best... you may feel differently.

The combat feel was ok in this game .. nothin special .. but not bad.

To sum it up: I know this game is only in beta, so thats why I figure some of the "glitches" that I experienced in game play are no big deal.. those will be fixed in time.

The "dealbreakers" for me .. may not be "dealbreakers" for you. You may be ok with point and click movement and not care about having good character creation options. To you I say.. have fun with the game.

For me .. the game in its current state does not have enough features for me to want to keep playing it, and I sure as hell wouldnt pay a monthly fee for it.

For any who think I need to play for months to have a good impression of the game: Its not really fair to judge a book by its cover, I agree... but I sure dont have to read the whole damn thing to figure out that I dont like it. I played enough of the game to find out that I dont like it.

like all marketing technices the game should be awe inspiring from the get-go as the first impressions are what most people get sold on,

Exactly, Im tired of the fanboi argument "You have to play it for a while to know if you like it" You do? What idiot takes a week to find out if he likes a game or not? Any game I ever bought whether it was mmo, rpg, fps, action, mario brothers whatever I know within an hour if it was a game id like. It rather hooks me in or it doesnt. Most games you can beat in a week or less. I can see it now "Hey guys I finally beat this game and just at the end I realized I didnt like it!"

YEa I know mmo's are different, but it shouldnt tke more time to know if u like a game or not, thats a futile argument and needs to be put to rest. Archlords is a mediocre game at BEST and thats being nice. Lets not try to act like this game iwll ever be more

That's pretty much true. If you don't like the game from the first 30 minutes/1 hour, then you're not gonna really want to play much longer. However,I tend to find that if you get involved in-game with other people, sometimes you might just play that little bit longer.

Of course,"its a beta" is no excuse. The fact is; unless there's a free trial on release, people will judge a game for what they see before them. Criticism can go a long way to helping a game anyway.

Isn't it supposed to be released next month?  If so even though its a beta it should be pretty much complete.

My predictions are this is going to be another flop.  They might love pure grinding, bugs and crashes over in Asia, but over here we want content and stability.

I thought Codemasters would have got the idea after RF died (stores couldnt even shift copys for £2, most of the players got bored and left after the first few days)

From the hype I was expecting a WoW rival, but it doesn't even come close in ANY aspect.
