This update is so great that people might catch what the dev is saying.
This game WILL be much better than all other MMORPG's because it has a staff that cares about the game more than the money.
As said in this report they are not releasing until there is little to no lag in the most populated areas, the game has lots of fun things to do (no same boring quests), and content that makes the game worthwhile after you hit the cap!
This game does have some original ideas. I am going to enjoy this game when it comes out. I don't plan on pre-ordering the game, I just got the box from Best Buy because I liked the idea of having some more information about the game. I was kind of sad to see the movie was straight off the website. I was kind of hoping for more of an exclusive. So far everything I have heard about the game sounds like fun to me. Might be the casual gamer paradise I have been looking for. AO was pretty good for a casual gamer, but keeping up in the phat lewt deparment was really hurting me.
I think one of the most simple yet elegant things to anticipate in this game will be its urban environment.
Besides Neocron (cough) and not counting AO (futuristic) this will be the first realistic modern contemporary city for us to explore! Almost like our first VR city!
uhh- City of Heros is going to be lame. Why you ask? Because there is no FREAKING pvp!!! You can't be a evil dude. So wtf is the is the point of the game!?

You know, I'm getting sick and tired of people whining about no PvP in CoH. For the last freaking time: THERE WILL BE PVP IN COH! There will be a PvP arena either in on release or with the first few patches. That has already been confirmed by various people including one of the developers in an interview conducted by GameSpy. Suposedly the arena will not be duel specific. You can have group battles and whatnot.
By the way, the reason there are no evil people in CoH is because the game is about heroes. Not heroes and villians. Hense the name "City of Heroes" and not "City of People with Super Powers Who Are Running Around And Pointlessly Pwning Each Other."
What I like is that the devs are concentrating on getting things done properly instead of having tons of things (like pvp, villians, vehicles etc) and them all being mediocre.
They've said that things like this may be added later, but they want to be sure a fun game is in place to start with, and I think that's the best approach.
I agree with one of the previous posters, PVP is not the only thing that determines a game. RO didn't have PVP for most of the game, and it was still good. SWG was centered around more than just PVP. FFXI didn't have PVP and it was still a good game as well.
The fact is there are more people willing to forgo the PVP than will only play it for PVP.
The villains expansion WILL come out later. So don't worry, just don't buy COH when it launches.
Also this is just my biased.... but it seems that we know who the griefers are, because they are always complaining about not being a Super Villain.
I have said this in some of my other posts about this game...it will succeed because it is a new idea. No one else has tried this genre of MMO. I think that is one reason why so many people will go out and buy it. If it is horrible after the first few months, well that will be too bad, since I hope this game succeeds.
Here's the deal. The game should be really great. My only concerns are that there are enough high bard missions and that there is a way to stand out from the crowd.
My favorite part of that dev update is this quote:
"Content streamed in all through January, and we're currently storing up a bunch of new content (including the Strike Team work) for a big update as well once things in the game are tuned to our happiness. "
I think alot of the upcoming MMOs have learned their lesson from AC2, SWG, et al.
Content is a must!
Leaving content to be developed by the player's themselve is crazy-talk. Yes Holocron, I am talking to you.
By the way, the reason there are no evil people in CoH is because the game is about heroes. Not heroes and villians. Hense the name "City of Heroes" and not "City of People with Super Powers Who Are Running Around And Pointlessly Pwning Each Other."
LOL!!! I laughed so hard at this line!!
But seriously though what if you can be a hero, or a villain, hero's won't be able to kill each other, just villains, and villains, well they can kill anyone coz we all know only Pkers will want to be them anyway lol. Just a thought.

Well as i have heared the game is going great in beta, and its doing better than most MMORPGs out their. I mean SWG is basicaly still in beta...but their getting on their feet.

CoH is damn amazing so far. I can't get enough of it.
Things to think about.
-In my opinion, the game is still in the very early stages of beta. Full stress testing won't be for a while unless they're planning to speed through the beta.
-Havent seen much of high level content yet, it may be amazing, it may be repetitive. I dunno how the game will fare once the novelty of being a superhero wears off.
-One of the big problems is going to be getting the super hero name you want. Find yourself a good name, and grab it early.
Other than those few things, the game is pretty incredible.

I loved your post, heartless. Im glad anyone who only wants pvp wont be playing this game. It will aleviate alot of the jerks out there who camp/pk/etc. I do like pvp, dont get me wrong. Certain people shouldnt be allowed to do it though, sometimes pvp just takes the fun out of the game. Remember though, just my 2 cents.

Uhm PvP isnt everything. If you think it is the CoH isnt the game for you.
I like PvP dont get me wrong...but Shadowbane taught everyone that you cant just have PvP, you need content too. And thats what they are staring with.
Its VERY narrowminded to just say PvP is out so I dont want to play.
The game will be incredible.

Dont get all hyped from the screens and stuff. Remember hhow great we all thaught SWG looked?
its not the graphics thats got us going, its the fact that its not a fantasy mmorpg
