Facinating coincidence

KiamdeKiamde Member CommonPosts: 5,820
I just went to the website and I found that they have used my universal guild name "Fifth Column" as a villian group! I started the "second" fifth column in 2000 with EQ but unfortunatly it died 6 months later of unnatural causes. The "Third" column is my recent Unreal Tournament 2k3 clan. The "First" Column was from spain in the 1800s....I believe you have all heard the story as I have posted it. Anyways, this is a pretty interesting coincidence.

Lol, it's hard to believe that they actually stole your idea....but you never know where they might have looked for a name.  I'm sure some of them played the original EQ....that would really be a coincidence. image

Sorry to say but I am pretty sure they got the name from it's intrinsic meaning which is:

Clandestine group or faction of subversive agents who attempt to undermine a nation's solidarity by any means at their disposal. The term is credited to Emilio Mola Vidal, a Nationalist general during the Spanish Civil War (1936–39). As four of his army columns moved on Madrid, the general referred to his militant supporters within the capital as his "fifth column".

Members of such subversive groups are called "fifth columnists".

Everything from bands to art collectives have used the term for indentification purposes.

LMAO yes, my encyclopedia explanation. But it still is funny that they make that idea after I have been using i for about 4 years.

Have you really seen my UT2k3 guild? Who is your alias?

The Fifth Column was a major group in WWII. It was the fear the US had of Fifth column activities that lead to the internment of the Japanese.

With widespread fear, and direct impact on history, ESPECIALLY American history it is no wonder they included the Fifth Column....

I don't even think they knew you ever used this name as your guild...or cared.

The "Fifth Column" in City of Heroes refers to an elitist group of super nazis from World War II.  Thus, I dont think they have ever heard of "your" Fifth Column.

(World doesnt revolve around just one person btw)

Did you even bother to read the rest of the thread? You're like the 3rd, 4th maybe 5th person to say that? And the guy already realizes that it wasn't named after him, hence the word COINCIDENCE!

Gee, I wish ppl would read before just posting. ::::27::
