Some news about beta

colombdawgcolombdawg Member UncommonPosts: 57

Well here is all I know I've been watching CoH for a long long time well here goes:

There will not be an open beta unfortunately and they changed the 7 day free trial to a 30 day free trial.  The payment fee will most likely be $15.00 US.  Also they are already planning an expansion and the release will be soon.  They will go from closed beta to release.  All pre-orders will be brought into closed beta but they don't know.  They think 1-3 weeks before the release.  Thats what Gaffer said.  Everything is going well now though.  The next round of beta invites will be the largest and will include pre-orders and they will send these soon.  They HOPE to get all pre-orders in beta though which is kinda doubtful because they are so close to release.  Well good luck to all.  Hope this clarified a few things

thats why its called City of heros

    not City of Villians

everygame that focus on PVP dies.. thats the truth.. Shadowbane,Planetside,UO

All of those games have a huge decline in Subsribers. While games that offer PVE are on the rise.

even in everquest the highest subscribing game in the us the PVP servers are the least populated servers on the game.

You WILL get into Beta, just relax. :) Feel priveleged, because some of us who are outside the US and don't have credit cards can't even get the preorder box.

I thought the last thing I read from a dev said that if you get a pre-order disk, you WILL get into beta. But the one time frame there were gonna gurantee was "a week or two before release."

I will go find the link on CoH forums if you want...but dont wanna dig for it.

Actually, the devs said that all the pre-orders will be on the priority list of getting into beta, but there are no garauntees of everyone getting in.

Well.. priority over forum poster... Contests winners are still highest priority..

1-3 weeks before, im cool with that. It would be nice to get a feel of the game before its released, a nice jump start ya know. While everyone is dinkering around at release you'll have gotten the groove and be makin' the moves.

Gaffer, one of the devs, stated that all pre-orders will get in eventualy.

Starting next week Cryptic will start inviting more people, some of which will be pre-orders. They will continue to invite players as they are needed until all pre-orders are in the beta.

The way things are looking, I'd say that the majority of pre-orders will be let in during stress test, which will be 1-3 weeks before launch.

Of course, all of us that pre-ordered will get in eventually. The actual game has to come out at some time image.  Just being an a$$, dont shoot me :p

Hopefully I can clear up a few things

    - Everyone who registered their preorder box will get in the beta, most likely at the same time.

    - I highly doubt they'll be doing any new invites in the next little while, considering they just invited a new wave the first week of march.

    - I haven't heard anything about open beta, though I really hope they have one. Not having an open beta is how we get games like SWG.

    - I haven't heard anything about a finite release date either, EB says end of april, but I HIGHLY doubt that.

    - People who registered on the official forums before Nov 2003 (and have been active) are pretty much guaranteed to get in before anyone who's only got the preorder box.

    Hope that helps.

I registered in Jan of 2003...nothing for me yet. I have posted every now and then, but admittedly not hardcore.

Gaffer's comments are the ones I was referring to. He said that all pre-orders will get in, but would only gurantee 1 or 2 weeks before release.

If I get in, I get in. World wont end.

So far as I have heard, cause I'm not in the beta yet image image , it is going real well. The new group of 1000 testers where let in to start testing the servers. The thing that is driving people crazy is that there are only certain days that the servers are up. So once you get a taste of the game you go mad waiting during the days the servers are down. There are still dark rumors on the CoH forums that some people who pre-ordered may not get in the open-beta based on when they registered their game. No one official has made a comment on that rumor as of yet.

Here's to hoping that everyone that wants to ,and can, get in the open-beta

Those are nothing more then stupid rumors propagated by obsessive fanboys.  They guranteed everyone in Beta.  They are NOT going to punish us for getting GameStop's version just because the store got it two weeks after Best Buy.  That is pure idiocy.  Don't even worry about these so-called rumors.  image

Well on CoH forums i had been a member since jan of 02. But the reason i didnt get a beta invite before a friend of mine who registered a year after is because i had my e-mail filter on......so thats a bitch. But a well...what can you do.

Eventually they will have to let all the pre-orders in, even if its only a week ahead of time.  They cant promote the predisk sales making an opening statement that you will get into beta then not follow through with it.  As a new MMO you can afford to burn your bridges like that.  You have to deliver what you promise if its in your power.  And IMO, allowing those that have put faith into the game before it is even released are not the people you want to turn away.

Why is this doubtful? If they can't get all the pre-orders playing before release, How are they going to handle even more people after release?

If they're smart they will have all the servers up and running with betoids before release day...

So, do you NEED to preorder the game disc to get into beta, or will they send you a disc if you get in and you haven't preordered? Will you still have to buy the game? Like, do they send you the beta then you play, the game comes out and they ask for you to send the game back or pay for it, or how does that work?

HAHAHA dude its gonna be in the upcoming expantion........i have to admit a game is not complete unless they have PvP.....but even if CoH does not have PvP for a while its still going to be a sweet story line.

A game DOESNT HAVE TO HAVE PvP to be complete.  As a PvPer myself I know that PvP people always think this is the only way and cant see out of their little shell.

Arena combat will come soon after release but server-wide PvP will take at least a year.

Making a villian will be cool, but if its just I kill you you kill me with no REASON behind it then it will be lame.

Start thinking outside your narrow understanding and realize that it is quite an insult to say that you have to have PvP or the game is lame. When you do that you sound really shallow.
