when you change servers there is a cooldown timer placed on WvW. you wont be able to participate (i think its 7 days). Anet implemted it for the very reason you list in your OP.

you guys forget, (or maybe you never played Rift), but Rift had quite a few different events per zone. the rifts in Rift are more akin to the hearts in gw2. Rift also had zone wide events where hundreds of players would group up to complete them…

to me a gank would be a fast unsuspecting kill. if it turns into a 1 min fight it is no longer a gank. in and out before they know what hit them.
