Forget the Metacritic mixed user reviews, go to the Bioware forums where the real DA fans live and you will see ample evidence that the PC version of this game is a broken, lazy and incompetent console port.

You can buy a pet now for a reasonable cost who will auto loot your drops by scampering around and grabbing them, and they are quite cute too (cues dragonette saying omnomnom when you feed it treats)...
