advent.exe, otherwise known as the "colossal caves adventure."
The first thing resembling a commercial product. But I didn't buy it, Bradley University did, circa 1979-81. One of exactly two games available on the CDC mainframe, the other being a m…
What's crazy is that people still care.
"If mah game does not win the localized and bizarrely disproportional unscientific popularity award, I will flip out!!1!!one"

CoX had selectable difficulty, on the fly. Most NCSoft games scale. Marvel Heroes does, too (after a fashion)--the Diablo scheme of tiered replays--play regular, then harder, then raid, etc.
Every game producer in the universe wants that 'superior product' lightning to strike.

"That last game they did was so cool, this next one has got to be terrific!"

Seems to me that "exclusive" is only a problem when "game breaking" comes attached to it.
When "$$$" price tag is attached, it ain't really exclusive.
If "only a few ever made" and "unfair advantage" are combined, players (rightly) raise a stink.

The most UNIQUE mmo I've ever played would have to be, Star Wars Galaxies. No other game has come close.
You kind of lose your "most unique" cred when using a 10 billion dollar franchise as your setting.
Just sayin'.
