Pirates of the Carribean Online is very tween friendly and its free. Also, it is like Toontown Online (but for an older child) where you as the parent can control how much interaction your child has with other players.
Exar Kun is from the Star Wars: Jedi Academy Trilogy books by Kevin J Anderson. I'm not really that much of a SW geek, I just happen to finish that trilogy not too long ago.
The only email I received in my MMORPG.com Inbox was the one informing me I was a beta key winner. All other emails on the subject have gone to the email address I have listed in my account profile.
