try lagoonia. its a browser based game. the premise is you are stranded on an island after your plane crashes. kinda sorta like a facebook game, but i think it has most features that you are looking for.

aging and dying characters would make a lot of gamers depressed i think (recalling the "tamagotchi" era). but it would be cool to see your character age over time. hair turns grey, face becomes wrinkled etc.

ive recently tried these: LGP online (legend of the golden plume) nostale online small but decent community. f2p and havent encountered any gold spammers yet. but dunno if cutesy 2d/2.5d iso graphics is your cup of tea.

yep guild wars seems to be the game that truly represents the monk class. (bald, kung fu inspired gear, skill sets etc.)

if you dont mind 2d isometric, cutesy/cartoony graphics, luminary/goonzu online might be to your liking. you can almost make everything in the game, from pots, armors, weapons, food, tools, etc. and its free to play.
