Depends on the point of the game. In puzzle games I'll try for hours before resorting to looking up the answer. In any other genre, I'll lookup the answer within minutes of being stuck.

Maybe because I grew up long before the mobile phone era I don't get it but.. why would somebody want to play a game on 5 inch screen with clunky controls when you can play on a 55 inch screen with a gamepad?

Now that CPU's are getting into the 28 / 32 core counts, if Amdahl's Law still holds true, we're going to start seeing serious diminishing returns on adding more cores. Like you said, it's nice for bragging rights (maybe).
