Personally, I only play subscription-only MMOs (don't think any exist anymore) or completely free (i.e. emulators).
The reasons why I prefer sub-only:
1) Predictable costs - I like knowing exactly how much my game is gonna cost me. …

Well, I'm impressed the fortress looks amazing. Did you build it all yourself or did you have friends help?
Built the whole thing myself :-)
Total game time is 230hours in Enshrouded, and I reckon 180 of those hours…
The early 2010s were an era of experimentation?!?!?! That's not how I recall it at all! About the only real change i can recall is the emergence of action combat, as typified by ESO and Wildstar.
Everything else was still solidly in themepark …
Sadly haven't been invited to any test yet (or really heard anything about it in terms of getting in). It annoyed me that I had to sign up using a google account, seemed restrictive.
But yeh, liking what im seeing coming out of testing so f…
Just watched about 30 mins of Godfred's Tomb Part 1. Looks good!
2 standouts from what I watched so far:
* The note from the dead lord. It made me laugh! (paraphrasing) "I'm dead! But don't worry about that, I was old and full of illness …

Right there with you!
Not only do I not recognise the majority of the games in each award, having now looked into them I still have no interest in playing any of them!

I'm gonna go with "no" on this one, but to be fair, there have been very few MMORPGs where I've stuck around long enough to notice.
In my experience, all MMOs get worse over time. Launch is usually the most enjoyable time, but the game can …
It isn't a question of how big the toolbars are.
It's a question of action vs tactical, with a nod to depth.
An action combat game is one where the outcome is decided by the physical actions the player takes. Accuracy, reaction times,…
I would also like to re-iterate my stance that horizontal progression is only better for intrinsic character progression in an MMO. Extrinsic progression can still be vertical without causing issues.
By this, i mean that progression that…

Why not diagonal?
You can go up while you go sideways, this is essentially what we have always had. Levelling to ascend while doing something like crafting to be better at our current level. The whole reas…
My preference is for small vertical progression for the tutorial (because you don't want to overwhelm new players by immediately giving them a complete, endgame capable character) and then switch to horizontal progression for the vast majority of th…
I remain sceptical of the term "artificial intelligence" as from what I've seen, there isn't any real intelligence going on. To me, it seems more like a new way to store and process data. It's clever, sure, and innnovative, but current AI models don…
I'm melee all the way.
Visually, melee classes have always appealed to me. Plate armour and big sharp swords and axes are way better than leather armour, robes and bits of wood with string.
Mechanically, melee has always been more fun…

Raids as social events is an odd thing to say because my recollection of raids are where I am told to turn up at a certain time then be prepared with consumables and told where to stand and DPS, heal or do anything. All the while …
On performance, I can't really comment.
I never had any issues with performance when I was playing it originally. My play session yesterday seemed fine, performance was good for the most part. It did lag/stutter on a few occasions (which i don…
I managed to put a few hours into Enshrouded today and im enjoying the update!
The extra NPCs and allowing the existing NPCs to wander certainly breathes new life into my base. Luckily I'd already built houses and bedrooms for all of them, so…
I never played either EQ so I have no attachment to, or any real knowledge of, the franchise.
What i would say is that I highly doubt that Daybreak Games has the capacity to make an MMORPG, so i expect the rumours are false.

By their very definition, these games have you playing a character, a "role" outside if your reality. You're playing as a different person through a story that isn't your own life. And for nearly ALL players, that is (and has al…
I found the article really difficult to read. As in sentence structure and terminology, not content. Took me a while to get through, and I still don't really understand the examples given.
I also feel like the author has a really narrow def…

MMO-Lite just means not-an-MMO.
They're just regular multiplayer games. Nothing wrong with that at all, plenty of people love them.
