My gut says it'd be hell if they had to had a thousand people trying to DL the client all at the same time.

           Trust me guys it was hell downloading have cable modem here and took bout 3 hours .

 

        You have to keep logginng back in also because it kicks you...... DL rate slows down real fast.

While it did slow down, I never got kicked.  However, I wasn't exactly staring at the clock the whole time...  I know it needed to connect once or twice...  Oh Well, damage done, now I just have to wait about 32 hours and 45 min. or so.  Good thing it's my day off.

Yikes...if it took you that long, then you have one slooooooow ISP.    Took about half that time here on RoadRunner Cable service.  Either way, gotta hope the wife gets her beta invite now in the next two days.

Huh?  Only took me 30 min to download with cable.  Anyway you guys cant play till Wednesday anyway, servers are only up 4 days a week.

     It took me 3 1/2 hours to download with Verizon DSL, but I think an hour of that I was disconnected.  I checked to see how it was going and had to re-connect.  It's not like it matters though since we can't play until Wednesday. 

     For those of you who didn't get in, I AM going to check for bugs as much as possible to make the eventual release better.  I know some people just want to get in and play it, and to be honest if I beta test for a month and don't like it I may not buy it.  I do have the pre-order, but I just won't pick it up.  I hope it doesn't come to that because the game looks awesome.  I want this to be the best game out there so I am going in prejudiced.

A question about the pre-order (since, as usual, no one at the stores seem to know).

Are there two different pre-order boxes - one that is just a pre-order; and one that is not just a pre-order, but a beta invitation as well? I went to EB and they have a pre-order box on the shelf; but it costs $0 and says nothing about the beta. Is the latter the box I need to get the pre-order, or is there a special, limited type of pre-order box that I must find to gte the beta invitation?

If you get the right version of the preorder you get a special disk that has a bunch of useless content on it... However, more importantly it has a key on the back that you can use to register your preorder at playNC.com.  With this you will recieve all of the preorder privleges mentioned here http://www.coh.com/pre-order.html

So, there is nothing on the outside of the box to indicate if it is the 'right' version or not? Or do all the boxes look the same, with some of them containing a code and some of them not?

Since it was $0 I should have just gotten the damn thing anyway ... but only as I was driving home did it occur to me that the people at the stores likely don't know what they are talking about (namely, that the $0 version has nothing to do with beta).

I don't know about EB's preorder boxes, but just go to Comp USA.

I got mine there (complete with beta code) for $10, but inside the box is a $10 Comp USA gift card so it is basically free (just have to spend the gift card on something at comp usa even if it isn't the retail version of CoH).

All pre-order boxes contaian the beta code no matter what store you get them from. They all contain the exact same thing.

Lorthian, there is only one type of pre-order box.  I don't know where you heard there was more then one.  Each retailer, however, has a different prestige power that you will get in game.  GameStop has the best one for the type of character I am creating.  But you may like a different one.  Check Boxhead's site for the differences.  There are four different prestige powers all corresponding to EB, GameStop, Best Buy, and CompUSA.

I'm pretty sure all the Prestige Powers are the same (a run speed boost), the only thing that is different about them is the pretty graphic.
