I loved this game back in the day and will always remember it with great fondness... Soooo much in the game that was sooo close to being a huge hit... It just never quite took off and alas now its looking mighty dated... A true gaming tragedy...

This is true, though many will tell you its fate was sealed well before it was released - usually adherents of the David Allen Church of Big Dreams and Vapourware.
Horizons' failure is pretty bizarre looked at only from the angle of the basic game elements. Player dragons, player-built everything including buildings and towns... This mmo should have blown all of its competition right out of the water.
2 crooked developers that spouted more lies than truths along with....
crappy game design and implementation
followed by
no one likes a huge grind
equals one dead MMO
Horizons is dead now as we speak. Hardly anyone plays... one of its servers is barely functioning and there hasent been any official communication in well over a month.
That raises an interesting question. Have any other mmos actually thrown in the towel after releasing? I've only been mmo'ing for a few years so missed any potential early dropouts.

Yes the greatest MMO ever was shut down by EA, MCO , Motor City Online it was a muscle car/hotrod building/racing MMO that had some early success, but complaints of cheating (yes once again the moral-less few cause the honest people to suffer) , the addition of "import cars" (no place in a musclecar/hotrod game for imports) and the lack of a truely large subscription base doomed it to be shut down in early 2003, leaving many players(like myself) with a large void in thier gaming library. What a great game and bunch of ideas they had, you could build your car from the ground up from the dampening rates on the shocks, size of the tires, displacement of the enginge,to the strength and weight of the conecting rods in the engine every piece from crankshafts, to cams, superchargers to nitrous kits was able to be swapped out and replaced or upgraded with parts purchased at the parts shops or the huge daily constant player auction channel or won in races,.. RIP MCO you are dearly missed
Yes I played Horizons on the day it was released. I even bought the official gaming guide. If I could go back in time would I play it again? Yes. Do I play now? Hell no.
A part of me mourns what is happening to Horizons . I love this game and always will and I played since Beta ,played release and came back again a while ago . I am Bainsamryn Hammerspirit of the guild Dwarvenholt aka formly known as the House of Durin from Horizons Beta and founding member . Part of me still prays that this game will survive and hopefully comes that things promised may still come to light finally after atll the suffer this game has gone through . I would come back in a heart beat if the game gets back on it feets and things improve . AS games goes this is unique wit h none to repeat the community I have experienced in all my years of gaming Crafting system is the best I have seen anywheree now and forever . I salute Horizons and pray for its survival
.. Yes Dwarvenholt survives those wondering in Va;nguard on the rp server .
I played it at release and it was kind of fun. Lost my interest when I hit the grind though and I had other games to play so I quit, I always thought one day I would come back, but the interest never has sparked back up for me. Now it sounds like it never will.
I run the Mature Minded Gamers. We do video and board gaming videos and reviews. We also have a big Dungeons and Dragons community with multiple games active each week. Join us at: https://www.maturemindedgamers.com
Face it this game sucked from day one. I actually enjoyed about 2 weeks in beta..until it became obvious that there was no usable loot dropping and no dungeons. NO DUNGEONS in a fantasy mmorpg - brilliant!
Plus no dropped loot was lame as heck for adventurers. People who didn't craft dropped the game like a hot potato. I remember all the adventurer vs crafter posts on the forums...good times lol.
Of course adventurers far outnumber crafters, so after they left the game was meagre shell of crafting fans and people who realllllly wanted to play dragons.
I did like the UI and the fact that everyone could port to bind. But its failure was no surprise.
Well it can only be in our imagination That Another game As This Would come true THe races the dagons the housing With A little better graphichs And Pvp And A good quest line I can't say the questing was easy to follow with But I REALLY LOVED THE GAME // Karin Of Protectors of istaria -Unity
