Hardware Releases?

AlistairAlistair Member UncommonPosts: 318

Has anyone heard of any new hardware releases from the major companies?  I know AMD just released the Athlon 64 FX-53 and Intel just released the new P4 3.4EE, and I've heard NVIDIA is releasing their new gfx card in April.

Has anyone heard of ATI's release dates?  Or in Asus and/or Gigabyte will be releasing new Athlon 64 MoBo's anytime soon?  A lot of companies are keeping quiet, and I know April/May is usually a big release date for new products, and was jsut wondering what anyone else has heard.

Oh, and Murt, your 9800XT is in trouble...ATI is working on releasing a dual-processor video card sometime this sumer, but it's in their next-generation of cards.  It'll be same price as the 9800XT with a 50% performance jump...

I dont believe there are going to be any new "revolutions" in the graphics card market for a while, just a streamlining of what is already there unfortunately..

Stinks that the game designers can write better games than the hardware can do already wish they would kick it up a notch on the hardware end rather than playing compatability wars.

ATI is releasing a new Dual Processing GFX card, most likely to kick off the summer.  And there will be a huge jump in GFX cards this year-PCI express will revolutionize them, and many other hardware devices.  They technology is almost complete, the only problem is getting MoBo companies to integrate them into their products, which might take as late as Q2 2005.  If that is the case, that's when you'll see ATI, and possibly NVIDIA, release their new supercards.  However, I doubt EQ2 is so advanced that its  graphics engine is superior to the technology being released this summer.

A software program can only be tested on hardware that exists; anything after that is a prediction and there's no real way to plan for it.  I also highly doubt EQ2's graphics will jump that much with DDR2 and PCIE, or even dual provessing cards, because there hasn't been anything to test it.  If SOE tried to plan for that, they screwed up bigtime; not only will their game be highly unstable ina an unknown area because it can't actually be tested yet, but most users wouldn't have the setups to handle the demands.
