Don't listen to the hype.

Its been said before over and over most mmo's are shaky at launch. If the performance is an issue for you go play a mmo that looks like super mario there's a few out there. The world is immense imagine 3 WoW's(including TBC). Tons of races and classes to choose from. player housing, boats and flying mounts.

I am picky when it comes to gameplay take EQ2 for example I thought the animations(spell casting etc.) looked like crap so I quit. Sure Vanguard looks similar but you could also say it looks similar to DAoC and even SWG. The Sorcerer and other caster animations look incredible. Some of the melee fighter animations are on the cheesy side but some are cool. At 30 you get 3 hotbars full of spells so I'm sure you can change it up a little.

No matter what you compare it to its not like those games its Vanguard. As for those saying its been done before nothing new bla bla bla. Really what else is there... I'll take a game thats EQ/WoW/SWG anyday.



I really don't see why these other guys hate it so much. Come on man its not THAT bad.... O yea commence with the FANBOY! routine you guys like to fall back on when someone says they enjoy the game.

But the problem is people need a reason to hate it because they can not upgrade their computer. The funny thing is you see them saying they will wait for WAR or AoC, and think they will not have to upgrade.

2. All the gameplay elements arn't polished, which they should be for launch.

3. Too many classes, less = more : All the classes ended up bland and boring.

4. Too many races that are basically the same thing.

5. Community is horrible

6. Nothing worth talking about in terms of PVP.

 

End of the day the game talks the talk but when it comes to actually playing it then it doesn't deliver.

Well AOC looks crap and WAR uses a like 6 year old engine lol.

6. I never tried it but from what I read they were optimizing stuff every patch at the end.

Are you trying to convince other people or yourself that this is a good game?  I ask this because half your post is about how you're settling for something you aren't 100 percent thrilled with -- i.e., similar graphics to EQ2, cheesy animations, and taking the game because "what else is there".

Was designed to be primarily PvE! Get over it! There are a ton of PvP games for you to wave your E-willi in.

You seem to make posts like this in more than one game forum here at MMORPG.com. Do you just spend your time spewing erroneous commentaries about a game you clearly dont have a clue about? No doubt you got to Level 5 and gave up, if you even played at all.

Best advice  is to wait  a month. then  come back and see the real story on the game. I remember the dnl fanboys in the forums trying to convince the rest of us  how great a game it was, but we knew the truth it was utter crap. same goes for this give it a month and then look at the hype. of course you'll always have the hanger on's that  tell you about the magic bullet  patch that will fix everything and about all the "potential" lol.  so ill wait till real reviews come out from lvl headed players and not the whitewash reviews such as zomg this is the greatest game!!! with no real explanation. but as far as it goes now the game wont be a big hit 1.) cuase alot of gamers  dont sit  in mmo forums so ther gonna get the game look at the mim and  recomended specs and maybe they have in between. get home and try in run this game  with horrible results! you think ever half are gonna run out and buy 600$ video cards? I doubt it.. to me the specs seem way to high for the  resulting graphics . and as for the fans  saying ther the greatest blah blah ok yer not gonna convince them otherwise  theres prolly some out there  running the game on a 2 yr old vid card  on low setting getting 3 fps  saying zomg the greatest ever. so ill give it a month and wait for the real reviews

This whole "I'm not going to upgrade" thing is pretty defeatist TBH. The resulting graphics are stunning IF you have a rig that will run the game well. If you can't grasp the concept that to remain current in PC gaming you must upgrade every 1.5 years (at a minimum), it's time to buy an XboX. There are plenty of games coming that are not going to run well/at all on old hardware. I'm not trying to berate anyone and I certainly understand that money doesn't grow on trees but these are the facts of PC gaming. You can argue and bash VG all you like, it is jaw droppingly gorgeous, you just need a decent rig.

Well the game has a death penalty, what do you want them to do place mobs every 10 feet through out the game you would never be able to travel anywhere,  I like it the way it is when i need to find something i have to seek it out and for me thats half the fun

I'd say the majority of people would feel that it's just the wrong time to upgrade just to play this game. After all in 6 months Vista( should you choose to get it ) will be better optimized and less buggy. And there will be a better selection of DX10 cards out and will be or should be  a bit more cheaper than they  are currently.  For me to rush out and purchase a new mobo/chip combo just to be able to play the game now doesn't make to much economic sense.

I respect your opinion although that particular point of view is really lost on the PC market. You can always wait but conversely there will always be something better 4 - 6 months down the road. Gaming on PCs has never been a cheap proposition.

Let me drop in my 2 shekels...



I played beta 4 and 5 so I wasn't in game for a long time, only 3 or 4 weeks.

I enjoyed the game itself very much.



Even though the game is group oriented I was able to solo adequately and advanced as fast as a lot of other players playing in areas I was.



My only REAL complaint is their compatability with "supported" nVidia cards/drivers. It's not there. As a result I've not purchased the game, and won't consider purchasing until I see an official post somewhere that says either :



a) Vanguard supports these cards and these specific drivers

or

b) Vanguard has fixed the issues they had with nvidia drivers through X



Once they tell me it'll work, we can talk again.



As I said, I very much enjoyed the game itself.

I thought it was "prettier" than WoW, and loved the vast expanses.

Unlike others, I don't think the wrath of god should pour out graphically from a low level druid spell, and thus thought most of the effects were adequate to good.



If your system can handle it and you're willing to take a chance on your video card/driver working... I would recommend it.
