Goodbye Lineage 2

i for one have finally had enough after 1 1/2 years active subscription. The game is definitely hardcore pvp and the fact that you were never safe while "hunting" was an added spice to the the game. The economy is horribly out of balance now with the farmers unchecked success in this title. It is also impossible to level in this game unless you play  24/7.  this was a great game at the onset it is sad to see where it has ended. I will however be awaiting L3 with high hopes.

Sad to see you leave, personally I have quite 8+ times saying I will never come back but something about L2 drags me back in like 3 months later.

My friend gave me a time card, and I con honestly say , I don't miss l2 at all. The bots are still there and it is because of the lame community lineage 2 has become, People keep buying gold , which keeps the bots around. I am sick of that kind of game play and will graciously let my 2 months expire without logging in again. I have well over 50 million in items  and it still means nothing to me. I will let them rot in the inventory .

    I like pie !

Your friend gave you a time card and from that you gleaned all this info?  yeah...rigggghhhhtttt.

Yes, there are still bots but waaaaay less than there used to be.  A lot less.  Actually most of them are in starter areas since those areas tend to be very thinned out with players.  You see most people can do 1-20 in a couple days, starting from scratch with no help at all.  Yes they made it THAT easy for the newbies.  When did you last play this game exactly before your "friend" gave you this timecard?

Also your friend must have been pretty gracious to give you a time card that extended so long.  2 months you say or more from the sound of what your saying.  And you have 50 million in supposed item in your inventory?  LOL probably items you can't even give away if you wanted to.   Dude your a total charlaten.

Why don't you play the game, actually KNOW what the hell your talking about and then come back here and try again.

Ha..  yes, it's hardcore, "impossible to level.. unless you 24/7"... hardly.  From 1-20, you can do it easily in a few days... .. or at a way lesser pace at most a week.. but once you start playing it's hard to put down.  From 20-40, it'll take a less than average player another 2 to 4 weeks at most.  From 40-50, a less than average player will do a lvl every 1-3 days.  50-60 probably 3-5 days per lvl 60-70, 5-10 days per lvl.. 70-75.. maybe 10-20 days per lvl.   At 78, a less than average player will see 1% a night.   There is a lvling curve diagram, which shows how much xp it takes... per lvl to lvl.  But overall, I would say that in no way is it impossible to lvl unless you play 24/7.  Yes, this definitely isn't a sissy game, but it's definitely easier to lvl than it used to be.

As far as getting pk'ed... only at very low lvls and very high lvls do you even have to think about getting pk'ed.   At low lvl's, it's no big deal, it takes 10 seconds to make back the xp lost... Mid lvl there are sooo many areas to hunt, so yes, you can go to areas where you are likely to have problems, or you can find a spot that you won't see anyone for days, if you want it to be that way.   At high lvls it's really actually crowded (depending on the server obviously).   But, find a good clan, keep a good rep... and you'll be ok.

Farmers are still around, but yeah, mostly at lowby areas... and way way fewer than at one time.   Yes, I'm lvl 78 with a sub, and a purist at play (no ebaying, no bots, no hacks).    Great great game... still personally the best out there (well.. maybe lacking still in the quest area -- but I'm not really a quester anyway..).

Interlude is coming.. should be good.   This game has been out for nearly 3 years...  you'd be surprised how it's really still one of the best looking, best sounding games out there.

Yes, I myself have given up this due not so much to the grind, but to what some people think is server politics.  In reality these political issues deal very little in castle control, dictatorship/anarchy, or tax rates, which are tactical and true political issues on any server, but rather drama in terms of personal greifing and petty bickering over who hit who first, and I'm gunna get my main after you!. This kind of playground drama gets rather tiresome after a bit.  All one has to do is look at official forums and notice how trite and mundane the topics have become.  It's all about trash talk.  Roleplay just doesn't exist on L 2 any longer.

It additionally quite evident that the market forces one to go and purchase adena in order to stay up with armror and weaponry.  remember back in 2004 when I  was first learning this game there were many that played with a code of honor and sense of adventure.  I just seemed to meet a more mature crowd in those days.  Many of them have since moved to EQ 2 which is much more roleplay based.

If you could find archived forum message boards from 2 years back one would see a much different type of game that was played then versus today.  There was a time when this game was full of wonder and adventure. NOw...sighs...it's just another drive by ganking...

It is true there is a lot of trash talking and there is very little RP left (although the L2 Roleplayer's Associations is still there, other than that, haven't seen much), the market definitely does not force you to buy adena. You just have to play the market.. I am VERY rich right now and have never cheated at all, my main is only lvl 50 as well. I went through various ways to try to get a great profit: I bought base materials in Gludin and sold for high in Giran, I participately a lot in the events, I did some enchanting (very risky way to get money), I looked around every single shop in Giran for great deals to sell later. I can easily buy top B-Grade duals once I hit 52 and upgrade part of my armor to top.

Edit: Maybe they are doing something to get more RP? Link to Thread

Eh, the economy isn't that bad, you just have to be willing to risk. L2 is a game of risk, the more you risk the better the reward.

For example 5 of us that play L2 pool all our materials to one guy. Then we craft A grade stuff. This guy has awesome luck and basically sucessfully crafts everytime. To make a long story short, we have about 800+ million worth of items that we are selling, and every week more are coming in. No ebay, not bots, no nothing, just working together...

I will admit, pre B grade market is basically dead right now and so it is hard to get money. Once you can craft A grade though, money comes easy. The market is simple to play, although you do need money/materials to start in the market. But if you work with some trust worthy people, like I said, it is easy as pie.

Before we got into the market tho, and started pooling mats some of us were probally the poorest on the server. L2 is fun, esspecially making the money. I actually like crafting more than leveling sometimes, esspecially when you click a button and there is a chance you loose 20mil or make 60mil. It is a rush!

The game isn't for everyone though. This is probally one of the most team orientated MMOs I have ever played. Basically if you don't have a team you can't play this game.

As for the leveling ascpect. It can be boring, but my friends are what keep me going. Finally hit level 75 after 2 years of playing the same character. It is a time consuming game, but you don't have to play 24/7. I play about 8-10 hours a WEEK, and just grind most of that time. Just can't let it bother you that you won't be as uber as those that do play 24/7. The main thing is to not let the grind get you down, but instead just to have fun.

Sorry to see you go though, hopefully you will come back one day.

Of course you don't use the cyber market to purchase 100 million adena for an S grade weapon.  I didn't accuse anyone specifically.  However, I have read on particular forums, and this was a couple of years ago, therefore I have not found the archive.  I think it possibly was in Warcry, but not too sure, I found a thread on online adena markets which cross-referenced to a web site that showed market trends for the year based on online adena purchases.  It was estimated in late 2004, that approximately 80% of those that played went to purchase adena from online sources.  This was way before S grade and B grade was considered very "LEETE" gear. I am sorry I couldn't find the link.  It's an old, old article. Yep, many do.

I would be very interested in hearing how the hel# you "played the market"?  In today's game, it is next to improbable to actually create enough wealth to support yourself and be able to purchase gear that approaches absurd prices.  Show me where there is data that explains the finer points of earning honest adena in a corrupted game market?

I do remember L2 Roleplayer's Association...I wonder what has become of those fine folks.  I miss the old days, so much.  I doubt if the game will ever truly regain it's former grace and charm.

A year ago, I would have agreed with you.  Most, if not all clans/alliances worth their salt did pool resources.  We scheduled weekly raiding parties for mats/item drops/etc..  Remember those days?  Well, doesn't happen with the frequency it once did.  Economies were bad, but within some reason and lots of teamwork we overcame a Korean nightmarish "command economy".

Now, unless you are a lucky member of what is left of the elite clans, you are going to suffer on some days when folks aren't online.  Additionally, unless you have attained highest level, you are constantly working fro mats, scrounging for mats, questing for lousy mats!

After working your freakin' butt to the bone for nearly two months on mats, you have to "risk" to gain A grade or S grade?  Somehow I fail to see the point of that...

Events..well, I am just not too sure about that.  To have to wait for a special event just so you and a couple hundred other people sit around Aden or Giran in hopes someone will purchase an event item for an inflated amount of money, just not too excited about that proposition.

I appreciate your words on leveling with friends.  That alone is worth "the price for admission" in this game.  'I'm about friendships.  Long-lasting companionships.  Most fun I ever had in this game or ever will have in this game are with a bunch of folks in a party and on Ventrilo.  So, yeah, I do agree friends are what makes the Korean tedium tolerable.  Unfortunately, there aren't as many of those folks left anymore  .  God, how I miss those days leveling to 20...then working for the "C grade"...then getting the clan to level 4 and 5...actual sieges where clans showed up and we PvPed!

There may be hope for you yet. The Korean devs are currently toying with the idea of server transfers. I think this will go a long way in allowing ppl consolidate on a clan of their choice again on a server of their choice. This will at least offer an olive branch to those dedicated players who just happened to become cut off from an effective means of progression due to their clans folding or what not.  In the meantime I can only offer up the obvious that you try to research the larger clans on your server and join one of them.

Well, to be honest I will believe a consolidation of server when I actually see it happen.

If it is true and this happens, then it could mean new life in this old game, possibly.
