    SWG was the best...pre CU.

    Because:

You had total freedom with your character from start. You could have houses, multi personal transports, player based economy, complex uniq crafting system, skill based and a %¤#*=% cool world lore to play in

    SWG..RIP

Darkfall is the best game that has not been made.

    ''98-''99 UO (Golden days!)
    ''00-''02 CS; SB beta
    ''03-''04 MODO
    ''04-''07 WoW
    ''07 - SB
    Waiting for Darkfall and PoBS

In my opinion I would have to say SWG. It just had that feel to it every time you logged on, the pre-CU guys know what I'm talking about.

DAoC.  Until the noob zones emptied out.

I want the old DAoC days back.  I smile when I think about them.

UO!!!! (pre-patch of course) There is nothing else that can compare. Well nothing that is not vaporware (Darkfall). I can't believe no one has said this yet.

Lineage 2.  It is an EPIC game.  Every 6 months or so you get absolutely free expansions or "chronicles" as you call them that expand the current world exponentitally.  If you are a hard-core player, there is nothing out there right now to top Lineage 2 in the fantasy genre.

World of Warcraft. The game is simply polished and well done, almost everything is done right.

I would have to disagree with World of Warcraft being the best. I admit the game has quite a few very well done features but it is far from the ‘best’ mmorpg. First of all most of the thing in the game are old systems and can be found in many mmo’s (Eq, Eq2, and Daoc to name a few). Second the commonality has to be included here. By far Wow has the worst community I have ever seen in a mmo. Groups fight constantly and blame each other if anything goes wrong, people cry out ‘ninja’ if they lose a dice roll, and there is constant flaming of every class calling it overpowered. Third the pvp is all instanced. It feels very pointless to me going and fighting for something that will be reset in a few moments. Finally Wow has the problem with the landscape, it does not feel real. On a zone line the world shifts from a winter land to a green landscape and then instantly a burning zone of fire.

Wow admittedly made the best mass appeal game, mostly by simplifying things. However, I do not believe this was intended as what is the most popular mmo thread, since this could be resolved with a comparison of subscriptions. Rather this is meant to ask which one is made the best.

There is no "best" game.  It depends on what kind of gaming experience you want to pursue.

If you are new to the genre, WoW is the best.

If you have a steady group to play with and like a well-developed world and a long timespan, play FFXI.

If PvP is your thing and you don't care about anything else, Guild Wars.

If you like PvP, but you also want an interesting persistent world, you want DaOC.

If, for some reason, you love PvP and grinding, I guess you'll like Lineage 2.

If you love raiding for phat lewts, try something in the EQ family.

If you are tired of the fantasy setting, or if you are a casual player who likes fast-paced combat, or if a customizable appearance is very important to you, or if you like fighting large groups of baddies, or if you are a supreme altaholic, CoH has a lot to offer.

I won't say any of these is the "best," but City of Heroes is my favorite.

    City of Villains IMO.

It worst flaw is that it is a setting peoples in general don't particuliarly like, superheroes in modern times...

Yet, everything it does, it does it better than the competitors.  It focus on what the players enjoy, not on trivial timesinks.  Combats are fun and fast, yet still a rpg, travel is great, character diversity is amazing...

I think that with the share number of people playing WoW it would most likely make it the best MMO, well logically anyway....

Its a bit like Mc Donalds, everyone bitches about how crap their food is, but when you eat it, its soooooooooooooo goooooood, especially with extra mayo

  • Rha-ELRha-EL Member Posts: 208

    er no.

McDonald's is cheap food and fast food.  Thats why its popular.

"Good" food are those served in restaurants.  Have you ever been in one?

The best MMO is the one you are still playing without becoming bored of it.  When you eventually become bored of that one, pick a new MMO.  That new one is the best MMO until you get bored of it too.  Wash, rinse, and repeat.

But Darkfall will still BECOME the best MMO ever....for all people

    SWG in it's original form.

When I was 5 I had watched Star Wars so many times on LaserDisc that I had R2 and C3PO's dialogue after landing in the desert, memorized.  Star Wars has been an Icon since I've been born.  It has the Lore.  It has the "coolness" factor.  It just hadn't had any good game ports until SWG came out (KOTOR was the next best - But KOTOR2 sucked arse).  When SWG came out, you really did have the freedom.  The game had almost everything for almost everyone.

Those of us that like exploration got to visit worlds and cities and ruins we had only read about, previously.  The Crafters were in like kids in a candy store (my buddy was a chef, and he'd spend time before work dropping harvesters on the best spots, and then he'd spend hours baking and setting up his shop.  He really had the absolute best food on the server).  The HC-PL'ers had the ability to do whatever they wanted without needing to start from square one (for the most part).  And those who like to horde treasures and knowledge were able to help crack the secret of Jedi Characters.  Finally, PvP was a lot of fun.  Even casuals like myself were able to have fun.  My tera-kasi rocked was a lot of fun.

    Mado

WOw 1-70 is the best mmorpg imaginable. End game really kills WoW alot. There is no best out currently and sadly there never will be.

I also loved SWG pre-cu, so that gets my vote. It was one of the last games that I actually had fun in. You had the freedom to do several different things.. everybody had their role in the game. Fighters fought for their faction or to gather hide and rares to sell to others.. dancers/musicians had their roles too, doctors, combat medics, crafters. You had several pools to keep up, and they each made a difference.. Health/action/mind (and subpools)

The game was splendid, and now it is awful. You don't even get to be unique anymore, everybody is just a clone... Now there is no reason to take off your armor.. things that used to be fine are very rare yet still manage to get their stats fiddled with to make them obsolete compared to the weapons you now get from quests or common loot.

There are so many things wrong with this game in its current state, I wish that I were overexagerating.

Shame oh well, I guess this stuff happens.

I just thought they'd pull the plug on this game after they did the "combat upgrade" because 80% of their playerbase quit soon after, and are now left with ghost towns/cities.

I think the best mmo is always going to be the first one you enjoyed the most

for me it was everquest (mygod was it bug infested ) but i loved it and was awsome when folks were new and all leveling around each other

i have learned most games fatal flaws are

    1 listening to forums

    2 making huge worlds

we dont need a huge world ,we need huge content in smaller world (imho) and thats why eq was awsome along with most games in there infancy.

also for futuristic id have to say anarchy online  for depth and planetside for fps mmo

Some lead and some follow I prefer to stand beside!
