Lifetimer here and i can't wait to sit and laugh at all the trolls in a year when my lifetime has paid itself back compared to the standard price of a normal mmorpg and the game is even bigger and stronger than now and i will be playing for free for the rest of it's lifetime.
In your face trolls.
I'll talk to you again in a month or 3, when you have reached..dare I say it? Every mmorpg gamers nightmare...
the endgame. Uhmm i think i know my MMORPG's.
This will be my 18th MMORPG since UO released back in 1997.
I know i will hit the endgame fairly quickly here in LOTRO with the initial released version but i have faith in Turbine to release regular updates like they did so good in AC I.
That's why i'm a lifetimer.
I have the patience to wait for it.
My plan is to play LOTRO regulary until AOC release.
Then i will take a look at that and play that until Warhammer release.
Then i plan to have Warhammer as my PVP game and then i have LOTRO as a lifetime PvE casual game.
I know what i'm doing.
Do you? Age of Conan and WAR are scheduled for end of this year, its much cheaper to just pay the monthly fee then to pay for the lifetime membership. Ofcourse its to each his own, but its very risky to pay 200$ for a game that is so heavily based on content provided by turbine rather then the experience provided by players. 200$ is worth roughly 13 months of gameplay when using a monthly fee, how big is the chance you actually stay with this game for 13 months? Sure, you might like the game now, but will you continue to like it?
I think that many should re-consider this lifetime deal. 200$ is a lot of money, and I have heard many people complain that they felt regret they paid for a 6 month subscribtion for any games, and thats roughly 72$, and we're talking about 200$ here.
I might try it for the $9.99/mo fee until AoC releases, but I definately won't go lifetime membership. Here's why:
1. Turbine has a horrid track record. 2. There isn't alot of content so people will reach end-game quickly, and we really have no idea when Turbine will put in these other lands for more content. It's Turbine afterall. 3. AoC will be out later this year. 4. LOTRO looks good, but doesn't look like it will have the longevity. 5. So many things that are a turn-off or another game does better. Graphics aren't THAT good, Crafting system is stale, PVP open-based doesn't exist, few others that come to mind.
I'll try it, but not lifetime. AoC and Warhammer are too close.

hmm a WoW player talking about reaching endgame in a month or 3. lol you could go play vanguard where theres no one to group with to get to the endgame if thats what you like?
Going live, buying the lifetime subscription. So far I have played three games where a lifetime subscription would have paid off; DAoC, CoH/CoV, WoW. I’m enjoying LoTR more than any of them.

Yeah, I am trying to figure out how long it will last. Looking at DDO worries me. DDO isn't a bad game by any means, but look at the lack of content upon release. Also remember you are paying for the box too.
Do I want to pay $250 for a possible one year of service (average life of initial subscription for many games) that is $20.83 a month straight up all at once.
Do I want to pay $110 for six months of service? that is $18.33 a month, but what if I play a year then it is $15.96 a month.
DoI want to wait until later and play for 6 months at $23.33 a month or a year for $19.16 a month?
Hmmm, most likely the $9.99 a month because unless I play for a solid 18 months straight I come out ahead. However I haven't decided yet.

I know for a fact that turbine is already working on the first land expansion as we speak. They started there preview server almost a month ago and it is for the purpose of developing the future content updates that will come between expansions. There is a ton of content in this game if you look for it. If all you are worried about is getting to lvl max as fast as you can you are only playing i would say 30% of the game. The fun of this game is getting all of the traits maxed out and that involves doing all the deeds for each area.
At this time i am lvl 15 in open beta and i am doing the deeds this time around. In closed beta i didn't worry so much about them. But now i am trying to get every deed done and trait also. Finding all of the Points of interest. maxing out each tier of my chosen crafting proffesion before moving on to the next tier. Helping out kinship members and others who need help.
This is what is fun for me in this game. Not hitting lvl cap so i can sit around and whine about how there is nothing to do cause i bypassed all of the content to get to it. For the record i have been beta testing this game since beta one started and i have never hit the lvl cap. If there wasn't character wipes in closed beta i probably would of but that is the way of beta.
I will be playing this game until they close it down. If i could play lineage one for 3 years this game will have no problem keeping me playing for the life of the game. I just think of all of the area they have yet to add to the game and i see longevity. The graphics in this game are amazing and i am running this game on medium setting on a geforce4 TI 4200 graphics card. This game doesn't need open pvp it has so much more to offer than that.
Personally i'm not going to play Lotr, might have if i didn't live in EU ( i really dislike codemasters >_> )
But i can definitely see the sweet deal in a lifetime sub, all that "Will you really being playing it for 13months? you'll stop playing once you hit endgame" and so on, that doesn't matter! you don't have to play 13months, you can play when ever you want for how long you want! You can come back when Turbine releases more content, without worrying about having to resubscribe.
I would have loved to seen some lifetime subs for CoX but alas playNC haven't seen the light yet :P
I went through many, many MMORPG's and I finally found the right one.
Yet...how can you be sure...there's so many new games on the horizon... Uhhh, because I like a game that I play and I sure can trust myself in believing that "I can be sure". Wow.
I played it, I like it, and it holds my interest. There is nothing to be "how can you be sure". I know when I'm sure, when I know when I'm sure.

Just trying to decide if I want the lifetime or the 9.99 a month. Will depend on who I meet between then and now.
