I can now see hot that line might be misread.  Yes I think the game play is fun at low levels AND also think the game has some aspects that are a step in the right direction.

-Housing, not instanced rooms sharing the same door, but true build your own world housing.

    -Ships and various travel forms.

-Complex classes with intermixed abilities. (though I am a bigger fan of free form class games like Ultima and Anarchy Online)

-Large world size with an equally large viewing distance

-Diplomacy (at least an attempt to make NPCs more than quest dispensers).

-A more engaging crafting system that isn't just insert materials and click combine.

-Avoiding instanced content every 10 feet so that players *gasp* actually have to play together.  Having a sense of community makes for strong healthy games IMHO.  (not sure vanguard will get this message across though)

-reinforcing that releasing early and unpolished HURTS your subscription rates (maybe those funding the garriots, vogels and biowares will finally take notice of the success of WoW and if LOTRO does well also)

All of those things raise the standards over cookie cutter EQ clones.  I'm not claiming the game launched well or it is peaches and cream in the 20+ area.  Just that it was fun enough to play at low levels and showed promise.  Keep in mind I missed the first few months of release hell, but nothing I read reflected what I experienced when I logged in.  Maybe things have changed a lot or get worse as you level?

Still having a ball at L37 and even got some crafting levels under my belt now.

Everything is on hold while I quest for my Shadowhound though.

Edit: Alryth, just because VG didnt go in a direction you wanted it doesnt mean everypne feels that way. Im not ashamed to admit that after 2 years of the highly competitve L2 - which I love - the gentler pace in Telon is exactly what I need right now.

Well I was clearly speaking for myself, if you don't agree with me that is fine. I know not everyone feels the same way as me, but I think most do. If most didn't feel the same as me they would be playing it right now.

My point is, I think VG did the complete opposite of a step in the right direction. If people disagree that is fine. But VG is a game where I did alot of things I had done before, but this time I had performance/bugs issues that mildly affected the experiance which was already starting to bore me. So those two combined left me bored in about 4-5 weeks time.

If zero innovation and a poor release is a step in the right direction. Then I guess mmos are going downhill.

    I better add this disclaimer so no one gets confused;

This post was entirely the opinion of xAlrythx, such a post should not be treated as fact nor some sort of prediction. Thank you.

You werent speaking for yourself, but undermining the OPs opinion. There is a huge difference.

You also said nothing, absolutely nothing, of substance that could be agreed or disagreed with.

I clearly stated that I don't think VG took a step in the right direction, no offense meant to the OP at all. I didn't say OP your opinion sucks and I hate you because I don't agree with you. I am allowed to disagree I don't know what makes you think otherwise.

And how is it not possible to speak for yourself and undermine someone's opinion? That is extremely possible. I did no such thing however. One last time I said 'VG a step in the direction? Now that's funny' how is that not something that cannot be agreed with or disagreed with?

I guess if I said OP I agree with you 100%, that would have been fine right? Clearly that would have not held substance. Alas substance obviously only applies to those that disagree then.

Ok then since you can't help yourself I am going to make a poll, I don't want to but your quite annoying.

most people will probably stop reading it right there.  Maybe take that out.

Second, sure SOE pushed out the game.  But if they did not push out the game, they would be losing MASSIVE money.  They needed to start making money to keep making the game.  SOE, personally, is a smart company when it comes to distributing games.  Sigil even stated that it was time to get the game on the road.  Sure they would have liked more time, but they needed money bad.  So don't blame SOE for anything about vanguard.

Ok.... lose massive amounts of money by pushing out a game that is so unfinished that people leave and the game flops thus making it pretty pointless in pushing it out... orrrrrrrr... giving them more time to create the game perfectly and using the suggestions of beta testers thus making it a more stable and complete game and thus making people want to play it for a long time... hmmm..

I CANT SEE THE LOGIC, CAN YOU?!!! /sarcasm

Seriously, businesses are dumb pushing products out quickly, soe was a big company, they werent going to lose out on giving brad more time, now its too late, his creation is ruined, soe will buy it from him soon and create yet another NGE.

The problem with a lot of people on these forums is that they think their opinion of how something should be is the 'Right direction' for MMORG's. What direction is that? WoW's ? Just becuase WoW was hugely succesfull does that mean that every single online game that will come out in the future has to be that way? Who says that? There is a very big part of the player base which doesnt enjoy the games going 'the right direction' you claim they go.

For me for example the 'right direction' for MMORG's is specializing in certain areas , giving certain players exactly what they look for. Whatever that might be. If someone likes a simple , fast game game give him that. If someone loves grinding, spending hours to get something and then feeling happy after all his work that he achieved his goal give him that. If someone want to pvp give him that. There is no need for everything to feel liek WoW's 'remove everything thats not fun' from the gameplay. Some people might look for a chalenge when they play a game , not everyone just wants to have fun .

What pisses me off with most of the posts in here, is not that dislike Vanguard or X or Y game. Thats their perogative. Hell I've met people that hate Star Wars (the original movie). People have different tastes noone can enforce their opinion to others. What pisses ne off is that they want to pass off their opinions as the established truth. Like the above misguiede poster does. He thinks that just because he likes something , and a lot of people agree with him , its the right thing to do.

Actually Dim, as Alryth is now playing L2, I think s/he is probably at the opposite end of the spectrum and VG is not "hard" enough.

I may have miss-assumed though, as to be honest its a little hard just trying to decipher what it is exactly that Alryth doesnt like; s/he has a habit of being very unclear on that in the posts I have read,

Zero innovation? You aren't talking about Vanguard. There is plenty of that in Vanguard. Google it.
