heya, this is not a flame post about Eve or anything... its one of the most amazing games imo... and its really sweet done, but now i got some problems with the game
i find it "to late" to start the game as 3 years players still "unlock" new skills/stuff... and then it just take ages to get anywhere, getting training skills takes alot of time by it self, and then going to do allmost same missions to gain isk (gold) or mine like a mad... said that then i still find it one of the most well made game to date.
the thing is, i really think im going to love this game when i get into more late state of the game (reactivated my account 4 times now) but it just seems so far away
before anyone is going to flame me,
then this is my exsperiance of the game, i dont state it as a genral issue.
now 2 questions.
1. do u share my exsperiance with eve, about to late start?
2. u got any tips/hints/ideas how i could could my problems?
edit:
3. if u are bored of missions and mining what els is there u could make a living at? and some detaled information about how it works would be nice as i never really tryed to get into some other stuff. (remember im pretty new in the game, so 0.0 pirate hunting would prolly only hurt me atm)
Comments
u got a suggestion to my questions ?
I understand your issue atm and ill try to do my best to give ya some insight.
One thing that most people think is that since the skills are done realtime new players are always at a disadvantage. I and many others will tell you thats not really true. All skills cap at 5, so even if you meet a 3 yr vet with 25m sp piloting a BS not all of those 25m sp are usefull for that specific ship class. Hence the reason people will tell you strategy and tactics > sp in EVE. Its quite true, and has been proven many times. I for one have beaten many players who are older than me. Dont underestimate the power of a frigate or smaller ships as a while. Just because the BS is the mainstay of a fleet it doesnt mean that all other ship classes are useless. Theres a place for everyone on a fleet and pvp.
I have been part of fleet ops with just my rifter for tackling. Just keep in mind, all skills cap at 5 and that not all skills are relevant to the ship class being used at the time. Most of the time its ur knowledge of your ship and its advantages that give you victory instead of defeat. So imo its not too late to have started my friend, you can still be a factor in any situation and any vet that underestimates a low sp char is in for a rough awakening.
As far as making isk...ill also agree that the missions are boring, the mining is even more boring; so my suggestion is to join a corp with like minded people. There are thousands of corps out there, so there must be one for you. Mining is less boring in corp environments, and at least if you got a couple of low sp chars you cna help each other doing some lv4 missions and make some good sik together. Other than that you can hit low sec and pirate your way into making isk. Pop some haulers/gank some low sec miners w/e ur desire. A gang of frigs deep in low sec or 0.0 is hard to chase after and can be a threat if your smart. This game isnt really for solo players imo, it begs for community so i suggest to join a corp and ull be making more isk that way.
There are corps that even loan out isk so i can get ahead sooner. As for travel time.......theres no solution my friends, unless you got someone who can open cynos for you and u got the skills for it.
Either case i hope you find this useful and you keep playing. Its better to have more people flying either to make friends or simply more targets lol. GL to ya.
Hello ive been plying eve for 4 months now and i can tell you tha tthe 4 year old vets are not ahead at all. You see they have skills all over the place but i have skills in 1 area. in my case battlecruiser technology. Becasue of this i can Fight most oponents and have a good chance of winning against them.
You just need to find a good corp to work for and go from there.
The biggest thing I can suggest is to keep 2 goals in game at all time, one short-term focus on and one long-term to work towards over time. If you stay focused on the short-term goals you will find they are easy to reach, then you just set another one and work towards that. Over time you will find out that even when working towards the short-term goals you will still make progress towards your long-term one as well, and one day you will have reached it. Then you can set a new one and still have something to work towards.
The open-endedness of the game really requires you to take control of your gameplay. And for enjoyment's sake make contacts in game. Good or bad they are what make the game special.
But, about the time I start running into skills that take 2 weeks or more to train is when I hit a wall with the game. Running missions becomes tedious, PvP is suicide, and mining is mind numblingly boring. So my advice is simple. Just make new characters and play maybe up to cruiser level, then take a break and do it again.
One other thing... Eve has a heavily deceptive playerbase. Those people that tell you to go up against 3 year vets are going to be the same people that laugh as their 3 year vet friends pod you and take your cargo. Trust no one in Eve. "Join a good corp" is a great way to get podded when they tell you to meet them in low sec space. Look out for "lets make a corp and run missions in low sec", or seemingly awesome deals on expensive items with just 1 jump into low sec. And don't even think about 0.0. Every gate that you will try to go will have at least 5 campers who want nothing more than to pod you.
So there ya go, enjoy the part of the game that you enjoy, and forget about all the other stuff. There is no rule that says you have to keep progressing into the end game of Eve. The beginning game is much more fun, IMHO.
Equal opportunity troll.

QFT, you need goals in a sandbox game like this otherwise it will all seem rather pointless and boring. And having friends along the way is something that will enhance your enjoyment. BTW having enemies does too; I have a lil black list i keep of people i want to pod(for certain reasons) every month i savor the moment of making that persons day (payback is always a bitch).
2. Forget about the learning skills--- Seriously, NEVER, train these as your primary goal. It will slow down your progression in the game more then anything else. its a little counter-intuitive but the people who only train these either when off-line or intermixed with skilling other things enjoy the game alot more early on since they get to try out more options sooner. You won't get that behind the curve feel if you are actually improving your abilities instead of setting your self up for 2 years down the road.
3. Pirating would be a bit rough so won't metion it. Some early options are manufacturing and trading goods. Less shooting but still fun. Another option but takes a bit to skill into is hunting down complexes. not sure on how much money there is in this. Look at getting into a corp, mission running , mining, and PVP are alot more enjoable/accessable in a corp.
What Minsc said!
I'm not an EVE player but generally speaking... Dreaming about what to become is one thing, but more important is - is it fun today? Chances are that things look very different after you played the game for a while.
