I am currently looking for a new MMO, and I'm down to this one, and a game that goes into open beta soon. I really hate to spend 50 Euros for a game I might not like (I prefer to make my own opinion about a game instead of relying solely on reviews).
So, my question is: does anyone have a buddy key left over that I could have to try this game?
Thanks in advance.
Got a key, thanks

I don't see why I should spend 50 euros on something I haven't seen. I've been burned too many times before (= spending 40-50 Euro on a game that doesn't deliver or doesn't run on my comp, and went into the bit bucket within 3 hours). It's not about 'wanting a free ride'. It's about avoiding way too expensive rides.
Besides, what are buddy keys for anyway?

I just want to see if it will run well enough on my Macbook Pro before I go out to buy. If anyone has a buddy key to send me(via PM or mfunk86[at]gmail.com) I'd be most appreciative.
Well, this turned out a lot more complicated than I thought. A buddy key isn't a trial key. A buddy key is just that: a key that you can give to a buddy that is living close to you.
The case is as follows: you can't download the client anywhere from the offical site. If you give the key to your buddy, you're supposed to lend them the disks as well so he can install the client.
For me, the buddy key is useless. If I had a friend who could lend me the disks, then I wouldn't even need a buddy key, because that person would have a key for me, AND I could drive up to his house and try the game out there, or watch my friend play for a bit. That would be enough for me to decide whether to buy or not.
If I have to buy the disks, then I don't need the buddy key either, because the game comes with 30 days free. And the whole point of trying it out is to prevent myself from spending 50 Euros on something I might not be playing longer than a few hours.
Another alternative is to download and 'borrow' the client from BitTorrent, but after a lot of thinking, I refuse to go this route. I will not engage in activities that are half legal.
So this is where the game comes to an end for me right now, until I can actually trial it.
Thanks to all the kind people who tried to help me. It was much appreciated.

Actually, the open beta client works apparently. I went to gamershell and downloaded it from there over night and got all patched up. Just waiting on someone to have the kindness in their heart to give me a buddy key.
Seriously, I bought two U.S. lifetime Founder subscriptions and threw away the buddy keys because of the volume of hateful comments dircted at LOTRO and the people that play it.
If you hate the game
If you hate the people that play LOTRO
If you think the game is probably bad but want a free trial
If you just think that the world owes you somthing
I'd rather not see you in LOTRO.
You should have played for free in open beta when you had the chance.

Sorry, I had exams coming up and now that summer is here I'd like to try the game out.
edit : Blegh the editor in this forum works horrible in my browser, I actually went to the store and was ready to buy LOTRO but i was still a bit iffy because I'd like to see how well it runs on my computer first.

Not everyone had the chance to play during Open Beta.
And what's with your presumption that you seem to think that people who want to test it think the game is bad? Again, I want to try out the game before I buy. I ALWAYS do that. With EVERY game. No exception. With single player games it's normal and accepted that the company brings out a demo version. Noone ever finds it weird that you try a demo version for these games. Why isn't that the case for MMOs? What makes them more special than single player games, honestly?
Another question: is your attitude representative for the community in this game? If it is, then I surely won't bother buying it. However, I know it isn't, because some people here in the LotR section have been very helpful towards me.
The person that is making hateful comments so far is you. Just what exactly is your problem that you feel the need to flame people? People ask a simple question, and I don't see anyone asking for a key being rude. And you flame them. Why?

I don't imagine anybody has a buddy key for US servers? I was going to play in the beta but I was too tied up in moving (which also prevented me from playing even if I wanted to at the time). I regret the choice with all of the screenshots I've seen, it looks pretty nice. So, if you have a spare US buddy key, if you would please, send one in a PM or directly to my e-mail at lightleafsyn@aim.com
i have one but i found out there is nowhere to download the game legally so if you have a friend with the disks then send me a pm if not might be some illegal way
Quick update on this, for those interested and for those who tried to help me. A guy at the board gaming club I belong to had bought LotRO so I managed to borrow the disks and get his buddy key.
I played for 2 days, then bought my own copy, and then my boyfriend played on MY buddy key and now he owns the game too
We're now happily playing a Guardian and Minstrel on Evernight and we like the game
Again, thanks to all who tried to help me.

Is there anyone that would possibly has a spare EU key to give to me or my girlfriend.
We're currently bored of Lineage 2 and its too time consuming for us atm, so we're looking for something more casual and I've heard great things on LotRO, I'd be really grateful thanks.
Comments
So its 10 free days on one game or a couple of free weeks on a beta?
I recommend you just play the beta.

I also would like a buddy key if anyone has a spare (US).
Thanks so much in advanced.
