Games that will push my new computer?

GRunyonGRunyon Member UncommonPosts: 37

I just put together a new computer for myself, it's rather nice.  It has the new G0 revision Q6600 processor, Abit IP35 Pro motherboard, 4GB of OCZ DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 latency memory, an 8800GTX, 2 DVD writers/readers, and 320GB SATA hard drive all in an Antec Nine Hundred case powered by a Corsair 620w power supply.  I also got myself a nice 22" widescreen LCD and some quite powerful 5.1 surround sound speakers.  I call it a present to myself for all the gaming sacrifices I had to make to graduate High School with all of my friends .

Anyway, it's quite depressing because all I really play now is WoW and all this power isnt even breaking a sweat... I just started it so I am willing to leave for something else, but can you guys help me find that something else that will make this new moneyhole seem worth it?

I spend most of my time in MMOs, but RPGs are also great as well as racing games.  I am willing to try some new genres as well, but I am mainly looking for the MMORPG's I can switch to max graphical and sound settings and enjoy.

As of right now, I plan on picking up EQ2 and Oblivion and throwing them on max, having fun.

Other suggestions on games that might push my system?  Thanks!

Vanguard is supposedly the PC killer.... you could give that a shot, few months down the road Age of Conan is the next massive requirement game.

Q: how come u skimped on the ultra?

    A. Simply an overclocked GTX at a higher price.

To the OP, AoC is supposed to be highly scalable and gives people with cutting edge tech the chance to test it out, whilst also being a game scalable at the lower end.

Give Company of Heroes a try.

Age of Conan will be great. It's coming out in a while, but that will really show some great graphics on that computer you got there!

with his pc he could play both games at the same time on max setting...

EVE have a very low system requirement.

CoV probably just a bit higher then WoW.

  • I heard that Crysis will push your computer pretty far, and maybe Bioshock when that comes out.

If you want to give your processor(s) a real workout try running a BOINC distributed computing project when you're only browsing the web, or playing a low requirement game. Just be sure to keep an eye on your core temps at first to make sure you're not overheating it, though.

I run SETI (analyzing radio telescope data, I.E. Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence), but I believe Rosetta - cancer research - is also highly regarded. A few of the other projects, however, may be somewhat dubious.

Vanguard, maybe Age of Conan later on. Crysis, if you want to try other types of games (and can wait a little).

But as was said, this looks more like a bragging post; I doubt those 2 DVD drives, the case itself, or the power supply will affect the performance of any game.

Supreme Commander will be a good test especially when you have severall 100 units fighting the enermy Conputer [and have max number of Computer opponents].

LoL....try crysis i guarantee that it wont run at the maximum graphics >.< since the game requires much more than that

Btw why did you create this thread when there are sites with exactly the information you want.....

    Cheers

There is no game that i know of that actually makes use of the 8800 cards memory.Unfortunately if you are in 64 bit vista your performance wil lbe even worse.By the time 64 bit vista is stable and the performance is where it should be [better than XP dx9]you will need to at least sli that card or get a better one.Your power supply will really limit your ability to SLI that card.Machines that are made for the future of dx10 gaming are unfortunately held back by the very poor drivers set out by ATI and NVIDIA.So as of right now older machines running XP are putting out better or equal framerates than newer high tech machines. At best some games are pulling out a few frames more on these newer machines, wich really shows how pathetic and inept these video drivers are[ATI/NVIDIA].

I upgraded as did you fully expecting giants like ATI and NVIDIA to get there act together and put out proper drivers that should yield framerates at least 40-100 higher than these older machines are.One and a half years later ,there still fumbling over there drivers.

Any DX10 game will do. Theres only three I can think of that are. Crysis, Age of Conan and Spore.

Vanguard sounds like a good idea, although the screenshots dont really look like anything special.

I hear that Warhammer is going to be a multithreading game, so it should take full advantage of my processor.

Yep Vanguard is the most demanding MMORPG in terms of graphics, because it has been terribly optimized. Also a GTX is overkill for anything at or below 1600x1200 currently, but the new games coming out may change that.

EQ2. Get the Play The Fae trial and run around with the game at max settings. Nice eye candy and it should run nice & smooth for ya.

CoH / CoV. Despite its looks it will seriously tax your computer's performance when you turn up the settings.

There's the obligatory mention of Oblivion. I didn't like the game, but everyone seems to still swoon over it and it was very pretty.

    Test Drive Unlimited

    DiRT

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, especially if you're running Vista and have DirectX 10.
