Thanks for the link, lots of good information. Here is an interesting bit:
"-Item rarity levels I saw: grey, white, green, blue, purple."
It sounds like they are going for a WoW system, even using the same colors (assuming the match up in power properly). Not anything wrong with that, it is just interesting.
Also, he mentioned roots and that they are quite powerful and have a short cooldown. So, that seems to be the most prevalent CC.
Yea, looks like same 'power grading' system on gear as WoW. Yet another thing...
you mean the same 'power grading' system as DAoC, EQ2, EQ, WoW, LotRO, etc. etc. etc. right?
And I didn't realize they were the same thing. There are so many conventions around this time and they separated them so I figured they were two different things. My Mistake.
Edit: I believe they are two different things. There's a GenCon in Indy, but I dont know about Leipzig being called GenCon, and the first group is from GenCon.

I know Mythic has previously stated that Warhammer Online won't stress the importance of high-end gear like some of the other MMOs, namely World of Warcraft. But let's face it - with 22 armor sets per class, a color code to indicate item level and equipment with rank prerequisites I'd say there's reason to believe we'll be working overtime to get our new shiny toys.
It's a common mistake. When they say GC, they aren't talking about Gencon, but about the Leipzig GamesConvention. The two are held like a week apart, so a lot of folks make that mistake.
They didn't say GC< they said GenCon. Read it again. So they are two different things.

I don't understand why people are surprised by gear being a factor in the game. They never said that gear won't play a significant factor. What they said was that gear would not be as critical to your character as it is in other games. There are other aspects for you to develope as well. Gear in some form is always going to be important in games like this. Whether the gear takes the form of actual weapons and armor, skills, spells or what-have-you it will always be used as the carrot at the end of the stick. You have to have something to go for. Walking around and killing mobs or players with no real gain would get real boring real fast.

Funny how suddenly out of about 15-20 links the only worthwhile thing was one sentence about the colors of the rainbow.....
I was seriously impressed with how quickly people forgot about every other link. haha

It's no different than using grey/green/light blue/blue/white/yellow/red/purple for mob "con" colours. It's just a mmo "standard" that everyone is familiar with. As to armor colours, wow wasn't the first person to "con" colour armor.

First off, having gear play a significant role in MMOs will lead to a gear grind unless certain counter measures are in place, such as item decay or full corpse looting. It's inevitable. Players have a tendency to min/max their characters to the point where it gets ridiculous. You differentiate between "significant" and "critical", but it's really just semantics - gamers settle for nothing short of perfection when it comes to their paperdoll.

Even funnier to me when terms like "min/max" are used (you know that originated in old school P&P RPGs). Basically what you're saying is that gear should have no sort of progression throughout the game?
By your logic if there is progression to the gear, i.e. as you level you can get better gear, then there will be gear grind. Yet you haven't mentioned that the actual "grind" comes into play when gear is a .0001% drop on a very difficult mob.
Mythic have already stated that you will be able to get awesome gear in lots of different ways, "none of which involves grinding for hours for a rare drop."
The Hickman said that, and I'm pretty sure it stays true.
Item colors has nothing to do with grind. The way to obtain those items does. If these items are craftable, buyable, or you're able to get from the influene gained during PQs, then I would say that the grind has been minimized.
Take your grind back to raid games please.

This game has grind written all over it.

All this shows is the person's MMO experience. Anyone who thought all of this stemmed from wow is clearly a new person to MMOs.
