I dont even play WoW anymore except to raid and AV weekend. Times like now, I have no games to play.
I already got my epic mount so I dont need money. Dailies cover my repair bills and future enchants.
What games would you recommend me to try? Vanguard, SWG, Everquest II sounds fun but the only downside is I'll be a total noob again and I dont want to level alone. I played WoW since release so when I was leveling, there were hundreds of people my level.. finding group was never hard.
I've tried EVE too but the complexity of it turned me off. I'm open for learning but the interface just blows. It's so hard if I want to communicate with strangers etc.
So........ what games do you guys recommend.. be it another mmo or single player.

what are you looking for? something in the future, or something soon or something now, RTS,FPS,RPG ect, more detail.
Join the club of people bored with WoW.
I left wow about a month ago and tried LOTRO. I did not enjoy it, so I tried EQ2 and Vanguard. I now currently subscribe to both, but most of my time is spent in EQ2. I was worried about being the only person in a noob area, but suprisingly its not the case. In EQ2 I had a full group at level 4 doing a little dungeon for a quest. Bunches of people running around doing stuff. I'm currently 23 and still run into people my level all the time. Infact it took me 10 minutes to get a Fallen Gate dungeon group going and we were on our way killing heroic monsters for quests
Fun times indeed.
I would try the trial, nothing to lose but a long download time. If you feel like making your character from the trial to full version, all you have to do is buy the game digitally or in a store and put in your cd key and your upgraded.

Serious.
Alot of my buddies from WoW are going back to EQ2 since they have made alot of changes since release. You may want to have a look there.
EQ2 or city of heroes.
We are seeing a stagnation in the MMO genre. Most of us grew up on a healthy diet of innovation from one popular best selling game to the next no matter the platform it was played on. WOW set a standard that has grown stale, no matter how much more "content" you throw at it, and everyone is getting tired of having the "Grind" rubbed in their faces to be able to rub shoulders with the best to be able to enjoy the maximum quality game time value for their subscription.
Sure its no fun having to grind from level 1 again no matter what MMO you join, but you have to accept each MMO has its own engine and game rules and this is a learning curve. A complexity that is deep and rich in details can be a good thing that seperates the button masher gamers from the gamers who take the time to employ a well thought-out gaming strategy.
I got bored of WOW, sworn I wont come back unless I can play a neutral race capable of defining it's own faction points with each race. A Murloc would be funny to play, especially if they have to keep near water or plan ahead to keep moist on long desert crossings. I would play a murloc especially if their size was directly proportional to their level . In the end, though, I would be afraid it would become "more-of-the-same" and habits you've formed now while playing MMO's would settle back in.
I went back to SWG when they released the Beast Master Chapter 6 upgrade bringing pets back into the fray. I was a Creature Handler at the time, like many, who voted with their subscription fee at SOE's forced publish of the NGE over 2 years ago and quit in protest. I fled to WOW with many friends to bide our time, till lately, there has been a noticeable exodus from WOW to return to SWG. New players are always starting. The Telecom industry would call this CHURN, the number of new customers each month compared to the number of cancelled subscriptions. I am sure Blizzard is seeing a fair amount of Churn right now.
I played EVE online too. I would return when their avatars can leave their ships finally and interact with other avatars. You always had that in SWG. A funny issue happens with SWG, you form habits, either you tend to focus on ground combat operations or you tend to focus on space combat operations. Switching back and forth fosters the other, but gamng habits can be seen in the sum total of an avatars experience level in either.
I suggest the following to help make your decision:
1. You vote with your subscriptions fee if you like an MMO or not.
2. Pick your favorite genre theme, fantasy, sci-fi, etc.
3. Read their forums here or on their official website.

I got this theory about the EQ model. Basically this is what I reckon EQ and maybe WoW is doing now. All the good ideas they have, or bold ways of improving the game that maybe the playerbase wants they don't give until the mmo begins to stagnate. This way they can capture the interests of ex-players back to the game. Kind of lame system if its true as it means there will be players who kind of just keep on playing the game even when they're no longer enjoying it with its missing invigoration that the developers have withheld.
Um back to topic, try LOTRO.
Well...for starters, I'm in the same boat but I still play WoW, the differance being I am very casual about it these days, like...4-6 hours a week. I am however, a avid gamer otherwise, so like you I feel the tug of this vacuum. EQ2 has indeed earned a lot of redemmption, after SOE had enough of its teeth kicked in by WoW's gameplay, it finally recognized that solo content must be present for all classes (though some classes still are better at it than others). Still...my game times are odd, so I had trouble findng groups and the thing I disliked was the necessity of either leveling a trade skill to teach yourself new spells/combat skills, I don't like having to muck around with trade skills at all, and while you coud make due with just loot drops for the skills, you will at best be mediocre at your chosen class because of it. At least...that's my take on it. Still...I'd say EQ2 is a pretty decent game, depending on your machine, as it is a bit tough on systems that WoW breeze by on.
Other than that, if you haven't tried out Oblivion yet, I recommend it, or NWN2, I enjoyed both tremendously during previous WoW breaks. Now I'm waiting for Mass Effect to come out, and depending on how I feel about WoW after it, I may give it a longer break. MMO Devs just keep rehashing the same old thing, level up, gear up, endure the grind, and all content = raid or dungeons, next to nothing on shaping a world. Admittedly, the average idiot gets far more pleasure out of destroying than creating, but it'd be nice if player actions could ammount to something other than piling up levels, gear, and gold.
Even peace may be purchased at too high a price, and the only time you are completely safe is when you lie in the grave.
Try out ,
Planetside for a mmo fps
DAOC , best fantasy mmo.
Shadowbane , quite a few bugs poor code , but free and character development is fun (super easy to lvl)
Games to look out for would be PotBS which looks like it could be very fun , or just dumb and WAR which is the game to watch.
"Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one ..." - Thomas Paine
All mmos are stagnant to me, my MMO cherry has gone sour. I am even in beta for some major games and feel the same way.
WoW was so big for so long (and still is), it was destined to burn out (and us along with it). I retired from WoW ( see the link below for the burial monuments...very cool site) and I am very happy even without a current MMORPG to call home.
Believe it or not the answer to your question "what should I play now" is simple.....Anything NOT WoW
Go out , try a few trials, explore the free MMORPGs. You will either find a new game you love, or develope an appreciation for what WoW had.
Torrential
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
I'm still subscribed to WoW though I rarely play. I do play Eve Online and a fair mix of xbox 360 games and normal pc games. This is the only way I'm not totally bored.
I played wow at one point then got sick of it and left. I came back for the expansion and to this day I kick myself for wasting the money I paid for the box. If I could take it back I would. All I can tell you is just walk away. I think I'm better off since I stoped playing it. But then again I think I'm gonna decrease the ammount of time I spend on games and just go and live a little. I plan to get a motorcycle for next summer and and see if I can take it across canada, and then maybe the US the year afterward.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
I'd say if you go solo; play oblivion. TES series have always blown me away. The deepness, openess and storyline I have yet to discover in mmorpg. Also the graphics and world interaction are the best I ever saw in an rpg. Of course you'll need a descent pc to run it.
You don't want a new mmo, you want WoW with new races, new classes and new spells/abilities. Well, it's not out there. You say you don't want to play EQ2 or Vanguard because you don't want to be a noob again - why not? You were in every other game you played. I played EQ, DAoC, WoW, EQ2, Lineage II - you name it. In each game I - everyone - was a noob for a time. There are going to be people to group with in any game. You want to be sure? Pick a high-medium pop server. Not everyone on these older games is level 60+ EQ2 is getting a lot of subs right now for some reason - there's an increase in people around - even in the starter areas.
If you're not afraid of "being alone", complexity or new ideas/interfaces, then try anything. Otherwise, if you're looking for WoW in a different skin, stick with WoW. You'll be disappointed otherwise.

The first time I opened EVE trial, I got blown away and decided this was só definitely not my game... 1 year later, I log on at least once a day and make some hours to do some missions with friends.
It's getting through the tutorials thats hard about it. Once you've done that, there's not really much to worry about.
EVE is cool.
Also, http://global.lunia.com/main.asp <-- I urge you to try it. It's truely got this arcade feel about it. You progress through stages with a boss at the end of every stage. At the end of the last stage of the chapter (number 10) you get a boss that drops unique items (and all players get it )
If I could define the game, it's a mix of Tekken, Diablo and any space arcade game you ever played.
That's the problem it gets so deep that after a point you're like WTF?????????
I just stopped playing MMO games altogether. If you really need to play one, try LotRO, it's the newest one.
Wow is for people that...like to play WoW. Personally, I am enjoying Ryzom. Reminds me of when SWG was fun. Still shopping for something nice, though.
i have the same problem... i quit WoW but i started the EVE trial and i realy realy liked it.. but the problem was..... i dont have a creditcard and if i have my parent where going mad if i was using it for games... i was realy lucky the sold pre-paid cards for WoW but i looked evrywhere for pre-paid cards for eve but i couldnt find them, neither the game box from the game....
