Looking for an MMO

The main thing I'm looking for is a group based MMO not solo.  I don't like soloing a multiplayer game.  If I want to solo, I'll play offline.   Solo friendly games tend to make it hard to find groups so I'd prefer a game that is either group required or very heavily leaning towards grouping.

Once again I suggest FFXI for this. Its the only game left that is a straight up grouping game. There are quests that can be done solo but not many. Grouping is fun, and it really doesn't take as long as some people think to find one. You level til about 10-15 and then xp is much better in group.

Community is very important also.  I don't want a game with millions of immature players.  If I'm going to pay to play, I want to enjoy my time online and not have it ruined by griefers.  I tend to be the type of player that completely turns off OOC chat because I can't stand the mindless garbage it is used for.

FFXI again has one of the best communities in mmo's. EQ's might be slightly better. But, you can usually as random players questions and they will happy to assist. Find a good friendly Linkshell and your set!

Also, I enjoy crafting.  Not the push a button and go to sleep while your toon crafts 1000000 objects though.  I want to feel a sense of craftsmenship.  I want crafting that actually keeps me involved and makes me feel a sense of accomplishment.

FFXI matches this as well. Crafting is a game in itself. You have chances to "miss", as well as chances to make high quality vs. normal ones. You also have shops that close at certain times of day, as well as there being times during the day/night that affect what you can craft, and how well you do it.

Optional PVP.  I don't tend to PVP because of balance issues.  Especially in games where real world money translates to the best characters (see economy below).

The only form of PVP in FFXI is 2 instanced sportslike games

I appreciate any suggestions, especially if the game has a temporary trial account so my wife doesn't start griefing me.  Oh that reminds me, if there is a game that also is female friendly for her that is a huge bonus.

FFXI. and I have a buddy pass.. if I don't give it to someone it will go to waste

Well, I used a buddy key from one of the posters here and my wife loves FFXI.  As for me, not so much.  I'm not sure I gave it a fair shot though considering how much she likes it.  Realistically, she pretty much hijacked the character from me so I didn't have much time in game to get a true feel for it.  From what I understand, it looks like additional characters on a paid account are cheap so I might come back to this when she buys the expansion for herself and just use an additional character slot for me.

Does anyone have decent info about Vangard?  It seems people either love it or hate it.  The lovers talk of a fantastic world while the haters talk of endless number of bugs.  I'm just curious if the haters are people that haven't played it recently, or if there still do exist an excessive number of problems?  I may just wait for the trial accounts on this though since most seem to think it's coming soon.
