You're both equally bad. He's on the extreme "I really, really dislike the game, so I will voice this whenever possible" side of the spectrum, while you're just as heavily on the "I really like the game, even though it does have some serious problems, and I will state this as much as I can" side.
You're both disruptive and counterproductive towards the idea of an open forum. You both have an agenda, and you're making everyone aware of that.
did I lie? No. Ask anyone and if they are truthful they will admit that VG is very unoptimized. heck even the devs says so. Look over my post history on this game. NOTHING Ive said about it is untrue. It seems the norm has become if you cant dispute a statement then you attack the person who stated it. And for the record I dont hate the game. I hate the state it was released in and for the most part still is in. Ive stated many times that if/when major optimization and fixes are done I plan on giving the game another try. I hold great hope for this "npc optimization" that is coming. I hope it comes soon. however I also see the fact that more VG devs were let go and the base of operations is moving. Which would seem to indicate that things will be slowing down for the foreseeable future.

I didn't say either of you were lying. My point was that you both voice your opinions, whether they be positive or negative, whenever you can; regardless of whether or not the opinion is really warranted in the thread.
Did your comment add anything to the thread? No, it didn't.
And I'd be saying this exact same thing if Drago had come in here raving about how WTFAWESOME VG is.
Stay away from this game. My advice. Take it from someone whose been playing it since launch, it's going no where fast. Only reason why i play is to pvp.

The CE was $20 and I have Station Access. Really makes less sense to not give it a try under those conditions.

Probably the largest MMORPG without an expansion, would say larger than quite a few MMORPS with expansions.
And its rich in graphics, not poorly optimized...
Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS) Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve
It may have chunks, but that doesn't change the fact that the world is very very large. One chunk is a fairly large place and can house multiple things (few quest areas/towns, small dungeons and big dungeons). And I am not sure how many land chunks there are.. but over 100 atleast I beleive. Now not all of them are fully developed in terms of content. But still it has quite a few options for places to go especialy at lower levels and even though it has chunks (which take about 1-2 seconds to cross the line) it is still much larger than many current MMO's (EQ2, WoW, etc.) at their start.
And as to the size.. yeah it is pretty crazy and to be perfectly honest I have heard there are optimization reasons that help it be so big, but it can be a very pretty game with a decent computer (use a 7900 and I run it smoothly enough with the graphics looking imo better than other mmos i could be playing - especialy the grass and trees.. blowing in the wind). But it is still a very large game with loads of content (atleast through the 30's finished or partialy finished in some cases) and more to come.
And I think it is a joy to leave your starting chunk or two for quests and have some options as to where to go, now if all chunks could just get a few more people in em .

Hah, you should know that optimalizing the amount of space it takes on HD is almost impossible in U2.X engine. Even if they spend another year optimalizing that, the amount they could save would be like 1GB out of those. There is no way to reduce THAT sized world into a regular 4GB.

They have done further optimization in each patch. Do you want them to quantify EXACTLY what they optimized? Do you ignore it when they say that they did optimization tweaks and will continute to? Will you continue to state that the game is "not optimized" when they have stated that it is an will continue to be optimized with each new patch? Sheesh!
adamch29 I think the OP and subsequent negative posters are primarily referring to optimisation with regards to the optimisation of disc space usage; which is true - it's not optimised (yes I realise 'optimised' is a relative term). If it were it could be half or quarter the size it is now; entire sections of terrain could be procedurally generated - meaning kilobytes instead of gigabytes.
That would take considerable effort though, would result in changes to the landscape, and would load slower.

I personally dont think hard disk size optimization should be a priority, at all. These days hard drives are cheap. Theres alot of better things they could work on.

Good HDDs are still moderately expensive. Yes, you can get cheap IDE 300 GB+ drives, but they're not all that great for gaming. SATA drives, even the 7200 RPM ones are still in the $80-$100+ range.

Depends. I don't really like using the large 7200 RPM drives for gaming, so it would just be more unneeded storage for me. Therefore ~80-100+ is not worth it for me.
All of the 10,000-15,000 RPM drives are still relatively expensive, especially when that money could go towards something more needed, like, say, a graphics card.

yeah i got 2 Raptor X SATA II HD's and yeah they are more expensive than your usual 7200 Rpm SATA HD. what your paying for is performance not capacity. I do have about 225gb worth of HD space combined. but my latest 150 gb raptor X SATA II 16 mb cache hd cost me about $160 +/-. but get some really good performance. the 5 year warranty helps in case something goes faulty on the HD. but yeah in the end, u pay for what you get.
