I may be in the extreme minority here, but I think I'll actually prefer continuing to play City of Heroes over either of these games. I still don't understand how many people are going to play famous and not-so-famous characters. What if you're stuck with the Green Latern because Batman was already taken? The only way around that would be to create new superheroes in the Marvel of DC universe. In that case, you'd just have City of Heroes set in a different universe. *shrug*
You'd have CoX version 2, with better, more familiar lore and stories. At least, that's what Marvel MMO will be.
Personally, I'd take CoX 2 with good lore over CoX.
Marvels roster is wide enough to support a complete MMO...imagine if every player would pick one already excisting hero and play it Megalomaniac idea indeed. Bless that poor soul who had picked Daredevil and decided to go toe to toe with some cosmic being...Galactus or something like that
HUH? Who the hell would WANT to play anything other than the main stars? Can you NOT see 10,000 pissed off 13 year-olds giving up because they can't be Wolverine? Do you honestly think they'll settle for Hawkeye, or something?

It will be interesting to see how both games pan out. I mean, this is one of those 'hide and watch' scenario's. SOE killed my inner-child at least a half-a-dozen times with SWG. If they screw wtih Batman and Superman... they deserve to have all MMO rights taken away. ... Marvel has such a large stable of characters to choose from and utilize in their MMO, it will be interesting to see how they pull it off. I'm even more curious to see what happens to CoV/CoH when Marvel launches (and DC for that matter). ... How far out are these games anyway? 2009/2010?

To be fair I must admit the outcry from CoX subscribers has served as a kick in the butt to Cryptic. The last three issues have been leaps and bounds over previous offerings. If anything the Marvel news has spurred quality.

I agree; that sounds WAY more logical than a MMO where each player gets to pick the ONE Marvel hero for that server.
