Whoa, that is steep. Another one bites the dust. At this rate, the new MMOs won't intrude on each other as much, since there won't be near as many new MMOs released as we once thought.
Wow, I would have thought the board game could support development. Maybe they're in trouble too.

Major stunner. Didn't see that one coming. But one thing is for sure the herd is thinning. Perhaps the remaining games will pick up some of the better features/programmers. Gettting tired od half arsed games with pretty worlds but no content. or excellent comabt systems and horrid laggy and ugly worlds.

This is to be expected. There are way more mmorpgs coming out than there are players, not to mention the time required to play them. Then add the consideration of costs to make the game, and it is obvious that it is a big risk when it comes to mmorpgs.
I wasn't interested in WarHammer Online, but I am still concerned because I know this won't be the last mmorpg to get cancelled. I just hope Fallen Earth pulls through . . .
I am not worried about my most anticipated mmorpgs, though. Everquest II and World of Warcraft will most likely rule the market after they are released, so all of us fans can certainly count on them.
nice, another game no one cares about is dead. they should cancel all games and leave only Eq2 and WoW. less crappy games to try, more time for real life, happy me
Doesnt surprise me. The mmorpg market has been saturating badly. With the blockbusters around the corner, any new MMORPG that isnt nearly as popular will fail. Best to cancel and wait 2 years .

Admittedly when I was looking over the site a couple days ago I did not see a very bright future for it. Still, it's a sad day period when a game cancels it's developement.
The market is in turmoil right now. Horizons launched and didn't do well. SWG even though it had every expectation to succeed, was a major disappointment. CoH launched very sucessfully, but people question whether it can maintain it's 'playability' beyond just a few months. And pretty much every game launched since Asheron's Call with the singular exception of DAOC, has been pretty much a failure and has the industry a little jumpy. As one article I have read states:
quote: What's really going on here is simple: Cloning EQ isn't going to cut it. The original is still around, still adding more content, still updating their graphics engine to remain competitive. No knockoff can simply refine the EQ formula and expect to do well. It's not even enough to recreate EQ's gameplay in a different setting, "EQ with laser guns", "EQ in space", and so on. A game has to bring something new to the table in terms of the gameplay experience it provides, or it's doomed from birth.
I think this trend will continue. There just aren't enough MMORPG players to go around and support every game coming down the pipe. MMORPG's have a certain stigma to them and they just are not for everyone, like ever other genre of PC games.
In any case, I think many companies are watching sites like MMORPG.com and seeing what kind of hype and attention/comments their games are getting on the forums, what kinda of attention they are getting on their own sites and are making decisions based on what they see pre-launch, which if you are going to pull the plug is smart. The cost involved in deployment is whole other big slam of hiring, space, servers, etc. Sad to see it happen but I think the trend will continue with the big guys really going after the masses as hard as they are.
Just my 2 cp though!
Beta'd: Neocron, Planetside, ShadowBane, Horizons, City of Heros, Saga of Ryzom, Lineage II

Me too, i'd hate to see the tolkien classic turn into an bad MMORPG by a crappy company. It must die i say, DIE!
NVidia - The way it is meant to be played
ATI - The way it really plays, if it's working....
Yep. After sierra lost hold of it. Made it into a monster bashing fest. And where you resurrect at townstones. Well. It aint going to be Middle Earth online. Cup O EQ clone anyone?

VU Games, parent of Blizzard Entertainment, is cutting 350 jobs as part of a restructuring. Hm, is WoW safe from the executioner's axe? According to the article, the WoW team wasn't harmed. We'll see how this spiralling saga of premature death among MMORPGs unfolds.

There are many bad things going on in Vivendi universal corporate management.
I love Blizzard, they have some of the most talented people working there, many of them left now but it's shame to see Blizzard to be under Vivendi unbrella. Sony's too busy to salvage other area of its business. Their priority is on Console, gives a shit on what goes on on PC sides.
Another one bites the dust I guess. I was thinking Warhammer might get dropped before they finished it. It didn't seem to have anything going for it except the lore and background from the minature game (much better then 90% of the MMORPG stories out there). Just wondering what's next...

All MMORPGS SUCK
THEY JUST DO
I was hoping this one would be different from the EQ clones, but no it didnt make it.
I'll never play another sony game after Planetside and Star Wars Galaxy so forget EQ2
I guess I'll be looking at WOW, but I dont expect to be impressed.

First went down with Mythica crash.
The second, with this one. I know Warhammer's been hyped to certain degree for while. Didn't see this coming.
