I'm starting this thread as a petition against Leftie. Staff, can you somehow give him a warning? Or limit his postings? If not, Ban him? He's starting to turn almost every Off-topic thread he's posting in into a political debate, when it's not even close to one when the thread is started (See: Who's your next president, Favorite Weapon). I understand he's been here for a while, but this type of behavior just really started...and I honestly don't see the need for every topic he finds some interest in to be turned into a political debate and the see the thread locked. It's not fair to the rest of us, especially when this type of stuff really hadn't been happening before.
In other words, it's just not cool.
Board members, if you agree with me or disagree with me, voice your opinion, or add your name to the list.

I wouldnt say ban him
Just make rules that no political crap is to be mentioned in any thread.
Other forums are doing it and I think mmorpg.com will be doing it soon too
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
I don't think it's necessary to censor anyone willing to give their opinion. One of the best things about this forum is all of the different points of view. I would hate think there was a view that I missed out on because someone was banned.
The moderators do a good job of deleting any post that are overly offensive, and lock threads that get out of hand.

Of course I have been keeping an eye on things.
Political discussion is not something we deny our members.
We do ask that you keep to the topic at hand however. Instances where this does not occur...

My problem with him isn't his views or his opinions, I actually agree with him on a lot of things. My problem with him is WHEN and WHERE he expresses these views. I know his posts can always be deleted, and threads locked...but that's the point! Why should we have our harmless, innocent threads locked (RE: Favorite Weapon) because he has to express a view that is completely unrelated to the thread itself just to start a debate?
I don't think he ACTUALLY has done anything to be banned, but I'm not sure exactly what power the mods have...I'd like to see him restricted, possibly by number of posts per thread per day (therefore not being able to actually debate a point, because once he gets started they're no longer valid to the topic). However, if banning him is all the CAN do, and his behavior continues, I'd rather see him banned than left to run around free.

Just ignore him when he does it in an unrelated thread.
No reason to ban him, just don't get into his debates in unrelated threads, and then the MODs will only need to delete his one post.
I was ignoring him too, but he eventually "took over" 3 of my threads. He thinks he is always right.
It's annoying.

Gee... how convenient for you to leave out that I did not start the trolling on any of the mentioned threads. Others did.
On the favorite weapons thread, en1gma took a sharp right turn from the topic and posted a huge anti-Micheal Moore graphic on the thread.
On the gun contol thread, Sven's first post was basically all political.
On the "Vote for President" thread, Sven made a hard right turn by posting religious anti-abortion propaganda.
Why people are mad at me is because I'm not an "Alan Combes" progressive who can be shoved around by anyone that just yells loud at him. I stand up for my views with lots of evidence and links. THAT makes political extremists mad. THAT is why they are bellowing. They are forced to defend extremist views with logic, and they can't do it.
And Alistar, I seem to remember you saying on a thread,

Leftie, You're the only true politcal extremist on these boards. Everyone else, for the most part, keeps their views to themselves. When they do express them, they do so in a polite and intelligent matter. It doesn't matter how much data you quote. It matters that you feel the need to hammer your point into the ground and get threads that wouldn't NORMALLY cause any trouble locked by the staff. We've had discussions like these before, and they've NEVER been this hammered...or ever gotten THIS out of hand.
Yes, and ignore feature would be nice. A restrict or warn feature would be nice as well. Maybe we'll see one with the new board interface. Until then, I believe that the staff should still keep a close eye on certain posters (such as, but not limited to, Leftie). Ignoring him won't necessarily solve the problem, he has the same powers as us and can post anything he likes. If he wanted to, he really could get his point across, and then ignoring him wouldn't help.

The only reason I created the entire "Who is your next president?" thread was because I knew someone like leftie would come and take over the thread.
Little did I know you don't get points for popular threads. I asked them to delete it when it got out of hand.
In reply to leftie, I only said 1 tiny thing. I didn't "start" anything. After you posted a reply, I didn't reply to it.

I now move to have Leftie banned, as I take a lot of offense to the post above. Not only are several of my closest friends Roman Catholic, but I am Jewish. Bringing religion into an obviously non-religious thread is uncalled for, even for the likes of Leftie.
I'm not martyring myself, asshole. I'm trying to remove a problem from a place that I frequent and happen to enjoy. And by the look of things, I'm not the only person bothered by you, Leftie. Your logic is skewed. I personally don't like you. You're a douchebag. That's just how it is.
However, I let your stupid posts slide several times. I didn't even make a move until coming to the boards this morning and finding yet ANOTHER thread in which you've stirred up shit and therefore had locked. Ok enough.
I cannot monitor these boards 24/7 and we do have other staff. But In future, if there is a problem in a thread, doesn't matter what it is... contact any of the staff or myself at malkavian@mmorpg.com. I might be afk or would luck have it, over looked the problem but i will respond promptly, as you are all aware and it will be dealt with appropriately.
So please do not take it apon yourselves to rectify the problem by pointing out the obvious, flaming etc etc in the thread. Your only making the situation worse and subjecting yourself to the problems level. I respect you all better than to do that.
