Collector's edition vs. regular edition... wtf???

Okay...  ummm I don't know what to say this time around about the collector's edition for this MMO because usually, to me, it's a no-brainer that I want to buy it.  This time though...  I dunno.  Here's what comes extra in the collector's edition:

  • A ring that gives +2%exp and a tiny bit faster stamina recovery.
  • Collector's edition box.
  • A world map.
  • The making-of DVD.
  • Soundtrack.
  • Artbook.
  • A cape for free drinks in game.
  • 5 buddy passes for friends to play for like a week free.

I dont know about the rest of you but I don't give a crap about artbooks, soundtracks, bonus DVDs, low detail world maps, buddy passes, or special boxes - I just like the in game items.  Here's the kicker though, is an xp ring and a cape for drinking worth an extra $40!?  If you ask me...  the answer is no.  What else could you do with that money?  You could go preorder and almost fully pay for a whole other game, and let's be honest, how many times did the supposed "Collector's" edition for an MMO come in limited quantities or even be worth it?  Yeah, the answer comes back WoW, and that's it.

Despite everything I just said I am not going to cancel my CE preorder just yet because I want to hear what you all think first.

Well the thing that pushes me to want the CE is the collection of conan art from golden age conan to now, at barnes and noble a book like that would cost 50 USD in itself. obviously 2% exp will only matter up to max level but its not meant to be gamebreaking. And the drinking cape could turn out to save you alot of money if you dont need to throw down cash every time you want ot bar brawl.

Given the quality of the set i would say its easily worth it, remember the map itself is leather which would make it also pretty pricey. But if you dont care about that stuff id say go ahead and skip it.

Lick Here you could be one of the lucky 10!!!

I got it, but I guess im one of the sad people who just goes ahead and buys all the CE cause I have the spare cash anyway. Call it a sad collection of collector's edition heh.

This one is more expensive than the others I have gotten in the past, not sure why its more, when there are less "physcial" goods in it. Seems like they spent a little too much on the box lol.

Someone else where had made the statement they would go out on a weekend and spend 100 bucks on drinks and food. I'd just be doing the same thing, and spending the cash on something that wouldnt last 2 days anyway. So you could call it an excersize in attempts to not get drunk irl o.0

(Thats even more emotionally painful to say or type and read once you have typed it lmao)

I have a perfect track record when it comes to me buying CEs for MMOs but Vanguard really pissed me off....   I wasted an extra $50 to just quit that game 2 weeks later...

I have never bought Collector's Editions before since they usually are plain rubbish. But this one I'd like to have. Just need to figure out where to order it without having to pay extra 50% taxes and other payments.

when my wife and i preordered we paid in full, so we just went ahead and upgraded to the CE just for the hell of it

Well one thing is for sure, and that is that I am very excited for this game.  The combat system is very appealing because I need a change from the ordinary.  From an E3 interview one of the developers said that the game will have thousands of items, and tons of customization, which I love...  I don't feel like going on and on because then I seem like a fanboy, but I only started getting interested recently, because the release is in March *hopefully*.

I am on the fence a lot about the collector's edition now more than ever because of some videos I just saw.  If the game is as great as it looks then I want the collector's, and I have the cash for it.  If it sucks though....  I would freak out because I told myself "never again" after Vanguard, Everquest 2, and Auto Assault all sucked.  Someone push me to one side or the other!!!

I'll get the CE until more info is released about the game, and I don't think the 2% exp ring will do much

For people who have an interest in the how games are made these days, as well as enjoying art, and concept art from games.  The collectors edition will be an awsome thing to be able to get.  The art book has about 128 pages if I can remember correctly, and for me that has got to be one hell of alot of concepts.  Personally I would rather have that than the ring or the drinking cape... for me that is very little of the reason I want the Collectors Edition.  Although the Drinking Cape sounds FUN!   The ring has little importance, and will probably get replaced by a better ring in the first 20 levels no dout.

I would very much like to get the Collectors Edition for the art, and the-making-of features.  But sadly, from what I hear it is not available in Australia, or anywhere other than North America.... NO FAIR!

Was there a reason for this post?  You either want the CE or not...you made it clear you don't...move on.

ouch.  2 weeks .. i guess there are worst ways to blow money.  Although, for the record I liked vanguard, run smoothly on my PC from the beginning... amd and ati all the way I guess.

The way I see it is: if you're a big Conan fan, or a big MMORPG fan and just like to collect stuff, this will probably be a great new glossy toy for the shelf.  But, if you are only interested in a little competition edge in the game, Conan CE doesn't seem that significant.  You get a mount with preordering the regular version, which seems good enough for me - no CE required.

I agree that nowadays Collector's Edition for many titles no longer feel like "limited edition" packages. However, Affluenza convinces me to buy Collector's Edition boxes for MMOs that I decide to play!

I asked EBgames.com.au about the preorder deal that EBgames.com and gamestop have going (free riding mammoth and bag) and they said something that made no sense, so I replied with "I meant the preorder for age of conan" and then he replied with "the details of the collector’s edition and the preorder deal are just being finalized now" so they must be getting them soon. He said to me to check back mid week to next week.

But as for buying it, I'm not sure, the cape could come in handy. I'm not a big fan of art, but I guess I could get it. I'm a collector at heart, but games collections aren't any good anyway, they are made in vast quantaties.
