nope... try the Asheron's Call 2 15 day trial instead
Maxxxi - Frostfell - Asherons Call 2
Let's see:
It's free, and it's free.
Is it worth trying?
Yes.
Did I mention it was free?
(you didn't ask if it was any good, btw)
Definitely worth giving it a go. It's an interesting twist on the usual MMORPG formula, in space.
It's free so yes, and if you would like something different, you like Sci-Fi, and you like trading, definetely YES

in one simple answer...
it's not worth the 5 minute download
EVE has always sucked from the beginning..just my opinion
http://www.facebook.com/murtb
That's a rather near-sighted view, allot has been added to EvE to make it a better game, all for free I might add instead of charging every 4 months for a new exp pack chalk full of buggy content.
EvE may not be everyones cup of tea, but it's certainly worth a look
Why?
It's free
It's free
And it's free.
It costs you nothing to find out.

it would be helpful to those who want to know WHY you think it sucks, so that people can make an educated decision on their choice.
i would say that any free trial is worth it, as long as you have a good internet connection, and the game isnt complete crap. eve is not crap, although many do not like the look, feel, gameplay, char advancement etc.. this is more a matter of personal preference that incopetant game making.
so give it a go m8, one warning is that 14 days, although a hell of lot better than a 3 day trial, is still a very short period of time for any mmorpg, so dont expect to be able to check all elements of the game. also i would suggest hooking up with a cool corp to help you find your way around, there are plenty out there that wont mind sharing their time, even if you dont plan on becoming a full time player. i personaly love to show people around .. and see what they think about the game as an outsider. if you need a corp you can always contact mine in game chanel ASCI.

There is an Offical Review of Eve Online in the works from MMORPG.com that will address many of your questions regarding this game. With the promotional offer running right now, you can't turn down the chance to check it out for yourself.
Being actively involved in the Eve Universe since Early Beta Stages may have left me a little bias if I were to write a Review, but I will say 14 Days is not enough to truely experience everything this game has to offer. It does require a High End machine to run smoothly and the graphics are no exception. The environments of the game revolve around politics, business and law. So realistic that it can be scary.
As an entrepreneur selling ships, weapons or other merchanidse on a regional scale market, a scientist that discovered a new technology after painstaking hours in the Laboratory, a hard working labourer, mining the raw minerals from distant asteroids and selling the minerals for a huge margin, a builder of small and great things finalises the production of a battleship in his factory, a Pirate casting fear amoungst the systems, demanding a toll at a gateway or preying on vessles for their precious cargo, or even a powerful CEO of a monopolising Corporation in command of everything above.
Eve Online offers an alternate reality to an endless place we know as Space.

EVE is definitly not for just anyone. It takes a certain type of people to find it interesting. But for that kind of people it's by far the best game there is. It has endless possibilities. I belong to the group that loves this game.
So my answer is yea, the 14 trial is worth it. Besides what do you have to lose, except for some time
Eve is definatly worth the 14 day trial.
Just be scared if you get hooked as much as I am. And it only gets better the more you play (In my opinion).
Yes, but do give it a more try than the trial bacause you just can't get really into it until played longer.

Hmmm, I found that if you have 512 RAM and at least a 1 ghz processor with even just a Radeon mobility or GeForce mobility card it should run at fairly decent fps. I know tons of people that run it on laptops...have one in the Navy who has to run it on his laptop (which isn't the best laptop) but it is pretty playable. Now in a huge combat situation he'd prob be SOL. :P Just my two cents on that. Every machine is different I suppose but even if your only a casual gamer with a casual computer you should be able to play the game. hehe
I would definately recommend the game as I have been for the last couple of days. I was on a trial and decided to stick around. I love how the game can suck you in without requiring you to play 24/7. lol

All this talk of Eve made me remember the copy I had on my shelve. I had only played it a little when It first came out because I was playing something else full-time. I reactivated and I have to say, I am really enjoying it. Slow paced but you have that constant feeling that someone might jump you at any time.
The comunity seems mature and the bords are full of politics and warstories. this time I wanna stay a little longer and get into pvp
Some might say that it a bit on the slow side but its a beautifull complex game and there is really a lot to sink your teeth in. PvP seems very promising and has real consequences
Yes I should point out that there is some flexibility towards machine specs when concerning this game. More often than not, you will experience lag within a populated sector of space for whatever reason, near a planet or object with high detail... this is an indication that your visual settings might need to be reduced.
Always turn off your sound when engaged in a War. This too contributes to the lag factor.
I don't wish to turn this into an "advice" thread, so if you have any questions, feel free to email them to me.

Well on 3rd day joind a corp. they seem nice enough and have helped me quite a bit, I will give it 30 days past my 14 free trial days to get honest opinion, quite a bit like Earth & Beyond but graphically better. IMHO yes well worth the download able to be played on OLD 533 running win 98 as well on p4 with win xp
I have been playing it for about 6 month... And i love it! A trial on EVE is perfect to see the game but you have to play it for at least a month to get somewhere... And what can i say... i have been out in 0.0 space it is awesome out there. But you will have to play it for some time to get out there.
EVE has something for eveyone:
Trading: well it doesn't work so good right now... but its kinda fun
Mining, refining and building: Thats not so fun when you have done it for 3 month..
But its worth every minute when you can go out to 0.0 space in your new Battleship and kick some ass!
But its only one problem... The fucking gatecampers! I HATE THEM!
I tried the 14-day trial and things quickly went down hill from character creation on. I'm open to slow game play.
The turorial wouldn't even complete for me, not that there was any good information on how to play even on the website. Honestly this game was one of the first where I needed a manual just to mess around. This game is not accessable to new players. And as far as I can tell the economy is more out of wack then other MMORPGs I've played.
Telling the difference between NPC and player ships was about impossible, not that social interaction was anymore involved then chatting on IRC, other then it appeared in the game interface.
I experimented with minning from my newbie ship and could go to the other room, watch tv. Lets just say it wan't very gripping or involving. Autopilot basically let you do this as well when traving accross the universe.
It's really a shame the graphics are cool and it seems they put a lot of effort into designing a big world. Nice Idea for a game but failed implementation.
I'm not sure why you had so much trouble with the tutorial...it is a very well done tutorial...it can be a bit confusing at first because you really have to pay attention to it in order to understand it. Maybe your mind was drifting a bit. I'm not sure why it wouldn't complete for you, as far as I know there are no bugs in it. One of the people I recommended said his was bugged because the person wouldn't take what he was supposed to deliver but there is one of those missions where you have to deliver it to the hanger floor for some reason and that did the trick for him.
As far as telling the difference between NPC and player ships. NPC ships are a plus on your screen and player ships are Squares. To tell them apart at long range well your scanner can scan the whole system and it'll come up with the name of their ship and the type...most ships with names are players. :P
Mining is boring. Some people like it some don't...I don't, you don't. :P Mining isn't the only thing to do though so the game isn't boring because of this.
Auto-pilot feature is smart...some trips, especially in my Caracal, can take 30 minutes or more...I would not want to be there all 30 minutes telling it when to jump and warp. This game allows you to do something else during the downtime and still get somewhere.
The game isn't for everyone but it doesn't sound like you gave it much of a chance. Kinda sounds like you just said well since I'm bored one day I'll try it. No offense if this isn't the case but I just thought I would clear the air.

Wow, that's not suspicious.. Do this instead, try both and make a decision from there; I'd love to see the result.

A) Around release there was issues with the tutorial, now according to every friend that started with trials or what not I've heard that it works perfectly. Even if something did go wrong, you should have went to the website to figure it out if you had any willpower at all to try to make it work, which you say you did but...
The first choices on the left hand frame menu when you get to the official eve website is Features/New Players Guide. There you can find detailed descriptions of how to work things, and from there you should have atleast tried to join a community of players (a corporation, you know that big characteristic of the game that CCP put a huge emphasis on?) instead of just hanging around sulking because people aren't talking about anything special in local. Of course they aren't talking about anything special in local, it's just a bunch of random people who met eachother by the stargate and felt like writing a stupid random message to the other. Social interaction in EVE absolutely destroys the same characteristic of every other game I've ever played in my entire life. People mean everything, and knowing how to deal with them is the key to any sort of success.
C) You're open to slow gameplay but reading a manual is something you whine about?
D) The game is accessable to new players, if they try. It's not a piece of cake to get in to it, but I thought you're open to slow gameplay so I guess that's no problem, right?
E) And what exactly was wrong with the economy? It's probably the best player run economy I've ever seen.
F) Telling the difference between NPC and PC ships: NPCs have a crosshair marker, PCs have a box marker. Is that almost impossible to differentiate from? Anyone, even in local, or the eve website, could have informed you of that swiftly. Did you ever even try to find the help channel???
G) You tried to do the obviously most boring action, with the worst ship you can possibly use, and you were surprised that it wasn't gripping?
H) Firstly, you don't go flying across the universe, you go between a few systems here and there, and occasionally you go through maybe a half dozen or even a dozen rarely. The autopilot was made so you don't have to motion towards and start your warp drive, and then motion towards the stargate and then jump all manually. What's wrong with them trying to make the tedious tasks less tedious? Maybe you would have preferred if you miraculously ended up where you wanted to go since that would make plenty of sense right? Did it ever cross your mind that all this time you spent in the kitchen could have been spent actually trying to look for information about how to use the game interface etc? Or spent noticing that there's more to social interaction than you think, or just exploring a few of the menus to see how everything works? Guess not.
Please don't ever try to write a pseudo-review like that again, you have no clue what you're talking about. If the game isn't for you then just say so, don't bash it for something you don't understand.

Well the tutorial was fixed in the last round of patches. And I can say from personal experience that you would have found the needed help on the help channel. Also not sure if they still do this but I was paged by a ISD person my 1st or 2nd day playing asking if I had any questions or problems. I had a hard time convincing him that I did not need his help. It was not until I told him I was in a corp already with friends that have been playing for awhile. The tutorial and the follow on agent missions do a good job of showing you the basics of the game. Asking in the starter corp chat channel will get you good help also as there is a few long time peps that monitor it.
