Full PVP server? Not faction? Anyone know?

Anyone know if there will be a FULL pvp server?  Like DAoC had Mordred?

 

I loved Mordred .. but im not an RVR type guy.  Im wondering if anyone knows if there will be a FULL ALL OUT pvp server in Warhammer?

If you mean FULL PVP like Chaos players killing Chaos players I most surely absolytelididdely can say NO.

The WAR is all about Bad guys VS Good guys and the conflict between them. It would be fighting the basic idea of the game to make a full pvp server.

But if you mean Chaos players being able to kill Greenskin players then... It might happen. But I hope it wont. I sincerelididdely hope it wont.

Not really. Order is much more benevolent and peaceful as a whole, while Destruction is much more malevolent and warlike as a whole.

There is a reason that it is Order and Destruction. One realm believes in some semblance of laws, peace, and community, while the other has almost a complete disregard for laws, peace, and are generally rather self-serving.

I will grant that Order has done some bad things, but not nearly to the extent of Destruction.

Now WoW, that is a game that is not about good versus evil. Both sides have an equal amount of flaws and good qualities. In fact, I'd say the Horde is nobler overall, especially the Orcs and Tauren.

Well, they've said that alternative rules servers such as the Cooperative one in DAOC could always be put on the table.  However, it would appear that Mark Jacobs hates the idea of a FFA PVP server if this post here is valid.

Being able to kill people on your own side (other than dueling) almost never works out well and it will not be a part of WAR's main servers. There is always the possibility of having a special rules server that allows for all-out PvP but like many things in life, what seems great when you dream about it, isn't so great when you get it. One of the things that made DAoC's PvP so successful was the RvR concept. Us vs. them works out a lot better than "Kill anyone you can when you feel like it!" especially when people are paying for the privilege. I've seen, designed, implemented, discussed all sorts of ways to create a really good all-out PvP system but I can always poke too many holes in them. And if I can poke too many holes, well, the players will outdo me quite easily. What it really boils down to are two things:



1) That there are no consequences serious enough to prevent people from abusing the system. Even something like perma-death wouldn't do the job and that's as harsh of a penalty that we can enforce.



2) That a small number of people can choose to ignore (1) and make lots and lots of people unhappy. The vast majority of player don't want to play a game where they are constantly looking over their shoulders (no matter where they are) or one where my experience can be ruined day in and day out. That's not why most players play these games.



So, in the end it's safe to say that WAR, like DAoC, will have the best of both the PvP and PvE worlds, RvR.

Totally not sure about this.  Do know recall any direct comments from the devs concerning this topic -- although it is quite possible I missed them.

I think I vaguely, very vaguely, recall some dev saying something to the effect that "FFA PvP would not work with Warhammer lore" but I could be wrong about that.

However, I would imagine that possibly, if there were enough demand for such a server, one could be created after launch.

Seeing your forum nickname, I fully understand why this type of server would appeal to you.

Thank you for your posts guys.

It doesnt look good for me and WAR which sucks cause I have been hoping for it for a while now.

I can see how RVR plays with the story of WAR and thats cool.  Im not one who reads lore or cares about those things though.  What I do love is an open canvass given by devs and its players who make / create / enforce / dictate the rules / politics / etc.

Even in these type of games you have good vs evil .. however its not chosen by the character you pick at creation and enforced by code the devs put in.  It can change in an instant if someone gets back stabbed.  Aliances can crumble and be formed etc etc.

I love PVP .. yes I like to Grief from time to time as my name suggests, but what I love most are 100% open player driven politics that really change the world you live in. 

So many times in the end youc an pvp and fight all day long .. but orcs will still be orcs, and have their lands, humans will be humans and have theirs .. and as fun as it often is I just dont find it as rewarding.

I know im in a minority but just stating my opion.

Im sure the game will be good .. the free for all pvp server in DAOC was awesome.  I didnt care much for the RVR servers though as im sure you all have guessed.

Anyways .. thanks again for your time and posts.

You should try looking at Age of Conan Greefer, its politics etc etc are pretty much all run by players.  Its geared a bit more into what your looking for.  WAR's just not geared and never has been as open world based.

I'm not much for open canvas worlds myself since some players use it as an excuse to act like a bunch of lawless, moral less jerks.  But I can understand those that enjoy that sort of world in a serious fashion.  Different game styles for different people.  I'm sure there's a game out there for you, EvE might do you good as well as Age of Conan, and Shadowbane and especailly Darkfall if it ever comes out.

Good luck and Happy hunting for a game that is actually geared & catered towards you.  There's bound to be one.

Yeh that's what I wanted a nice snadbox game where you could choose your own allies and do what you wanted to do but instead they gave us WOW/DAOC with dated graphics If this game sucks then theres no hope for this genre really, will be like play WOW or nothing.

I think in the end you'll find the game will play a bit different from either WOW or DAOC.  But it certainly won't be Darkfall, which is what you were really looking for.  Earthrise might fit the bill though.

There is no doubt that Darkfall is THE GAME for me .. but its be about 1 week from beta release ever since 2002 so I am no longer holding my breath.

 

Archlord while a free to play game does have some bugs, but its open PVP and fun so that is what im killing my time with til DF or a Free For All WAR server comes out.

AoC seems like it could be nice, however I have been hearing bad things from beta people

Problem with Darkfall is it's a low budget mmorpg and they are always set for disaster, well apart from EVE but that's because it's one of those freak cases where it has amazing developers.



+ I thought darkfall is being made by them people who tried to scam everyone with their last mmorpg, can't remember the name but I think i'll stay away.

I don't see why FFA PvP types keep asking this. 

 

You are essentially asking for the factions to either a) condone/ignore random murder or b) be at civil war while also being at war with every other faction as well.

 

This really makes no sense.  Only greenskins and Chaos do that and even they stop fighting each other, for the most part, when a war is on.

 

Try to imagine what the Empire would do in a story if you had characters acting like you want.  You would be hunted down and killed immediately.  And no saying player politics would prevent this, its not good enough.  Because you are forgetting the Empire or other major states are the major players and there is a war being prosecuted of which you are a part. 

 

If you acted like people act in any FFA style game you would be summarily executed by the powers that be.

 

If you really want to be hardcore and want to be able to kill anyone demand that there be a law against murder and if you are ever caught your character is perma-deathed, because that is what would happen in the Warhammer Fantasy world.  You murder someone and you get caught you get a rope neck tie or a headman's axe.  Finito. 

Because demanding just plain old being able to target anyone is just plain silly when put into context.  You should also ask for flaming cannonballs to be shot out of your ass whenever you do a PK;  that is just as "realistic" and makes just as much sense.

Second I dont get your point.  So if you kill someone .. IRL you hang from a rope .. but if you go to another country (faction) and do the same .. then the same happens?? Whats your point .. according to your point FFA is more true to life just in the fact that you CAN kill anyone anywhere anytime .. God doesnt say oh you are an american its impossible for you to attack americans ..

Anyways now I feel icky because im comparing IG to IRL which is prolly one of the most moronic things anyone can do.  You talk about cannon balls out my butt .. but last time I went downtown I didnt see anyone shooting arrows launching spells or swinging axes at other people either.   I did see someone that looked like an ORC does that count??

You should check out EVE if you like open PVP.  Probably the PVP game out there.  In there you could be anything you wanted ... backstabber griefer ... however, since there was only 1 server you got known pretty quickly and became KOS to everyone.

  FFA pvp is so successful , Greef why not play shadowbane , Darkfall begun as a clone of Shadowbane.

           I played DAOC for longer than I can remember, the FFA server was terrible , most of it boil down to high lvls pking lowbies. At a couple points, you had large bands of pkers roaming slaughtering everyone, and most people realized they had better things to do then be a zebra in a wildlife park.

      Pker started screaming about carebears , and how they ruin FFA market , but when they ran out of fish , they turned on each other. The server dropped rapidlly to like 200 players.

       In DAOC i found it more fun to do the lvl 20 to 30 instance r v r (especially on Midgard side) where people where within the same lvl , and it came to tactics more than roaming bands of pkers. Of course pkers hated this cause they couldnt outlvl you (they did try to twink thier lvl 20 but that ended badly)

       I liked the PVE server in DAOC , that is more intune with Greef would be happy with. You could form guilds from any race , take castles from npcs. I m sure if they worked it as PVE with guild wars for castles or maps or what it would be what Greef wants.
