I was jsut reading up on this game because alot of people have been tlaking about it...
And man this game looks really really good...
but can anyone explain to me the death penalties please....

The things I know about death is that:
1. Your items remain on your corpse, unless you're very low level - In that case they respawn on you. Only money may be looted from your corpse, so you can only lose money when you die... However, it takes time until you get your items back (if you don't loot your corpse) It can be a couple of days at high levels.
2. XP penalties for death? Dunno anything about those. You can actually gain xp in pvp if you kill a wanted player.

With UO being my first exposure in the genre this is the type of game I expected MMO's to evolve towards.
Not the -mind numbing- level grinding- EQ garbage- the industry has been feeding us.
The world looks diverse and huge. I'm rooting for this one. The lack of a beta anouncement by now has me a little worried about the vapor factor though.
