Well considering the official forums have subscribers begging for server mergers, I think that speak louder than one of SWG biggest defenders speaking to the contrary.

Population is increasing of course new players will most likely opt to go to more populated servers it is common sense.

So low population servers will remain low.

I appreciate your candor on that point Obraik, but you've still not answered my questions regarding possible alternatives to why that box is still being bought by some people.

Again, all this talk has deflected the subject away from you answering those questions. And furthermore you've not answered my question in another post as to what you would say are the bugs in SWG right now.

As someone who seems to place himself into a position of a community leader your answers seem to be very selective.

As for the NZ site, http://www.gpstore.co.nz/Games/1523033.html.

I finally had a chance to look at this link. I see that it's #50 in current games. It's #887 overall!

So in all the games being sold right now it ranks #50? I don't even think I can name 50 games.

By comparison WoW's The Burning Crusade is #3 overall!

If you get a month of play time with the purchase of SWG: Big Bag o' Crap or whatever the final title is when you install, for $15.00 or so, that would make any items you got free and able to be sold in game for credits, so essentially people are paying the same as they would to play a regular month, and get the extra stuff when they download it.

Question is, is it worth the money at all....?

Out of curiosity, I took a quick look at the top NZ online game store and the older Complete pack is listed at #46 out of all their current game sales (including consoles), WoW is at #30.  I don't think that's too bad considering.

So if you're seeing some new players but the populations are reletively the same (refering to overall population and not just Chilastra) then is it safe to assume that you're seeing a balance of new players to exiting players?

I really can't say what the overall populations are like, I only know what I see on Chilastra.  From what I've seen on Chilastra over the past few months is that there has been a decent chunk of people returning to the game.  On Chilly, two large PvP guilds (incidently, one Rebel and one Imperial) have returned from WoW to SWG - one of those guilds hasn't played since November 2004.  Within the community of people I play with there hasn't been too much in the way of people quitting.  Some have taken breaks but returned a couple of weeks later.  It does seem the new content from Chapter 7 & 8 is keeping people around longer.  So no, I don't think it's safe to assume that there's a balance of new players to exiting players, on an observation based guess I'd say the new/return players ratio has been higher then loss ratio.  Again, this is based on Chilly - things could be different on the other servers.

Or could it be that some players haven't used up all of their character slots and are therefore starting a new character on a "populated" server?

It's possible, since as I mentioned there have been people returning that haven't played since the NGE (or even the CU) hit and now have a new character available to them.  I don't think that's the only scenario there, I'm fairly certain many of the new faces around Eisley are genuine new players based on the conversations you see them having.

And likewise isn't it a possibility that current subscribers are buying older "Complete" boxes just for the rare items available with those boxes (i.e. that BARC speeder)? Serisouly, what are those BARCS going for these days on some servers? Could it not be cheaper to buy the box with those rare items and selling them for credits then buying credits from some company, nevermind actually safer to do so?

I think you mean the AT-RT and the ITV ;)  But yes, I mentioned in an earlier post that this is a possible scenario as well.  Although, it's likely more for the ITV then the AT-RT as you can get them for around 8mil IG on Chilastra at least.  This is likely to become less common with Chapter 9 as there will be a new collection to obtain an ITV.

BTW Obraik, would you mind linking that NZ online store so we can view that list and what specifically were numbers 45, 44, 43... etc....

On the bug thing, if I'm thinking of the same thread from a few weeks back then yes I did reply and you even replied with a "thank you."

No, it was a very recent thread, maybe 2 days ago at most.

I asked you to list some of the known current bugs. Seeing how you like to correct others I thought maybe you'd like to gives us details on what you think are the most important, outstanding problems with SWG?

Well, atm I'm having a difficult time trying to find that post but I assure you it was there asn I'll keep looking. Regardless of where it is I still think it's a valid question to ask seeing how you like to correct others but don't offer your experiences with bugs/problems in return.

I find that to be very misleading to people, giving the false impression of a reasonably functioning and polished game. As a "community leader" I think it's your responsibility to be vocal about it until it gets addressed.

When did I gain the pressure of "community leader"? :P

Sure, I don't mind listing such things but I don't think this thread is best for that conversation as it's OT to the discussion.  As I've mentioned in the past though, I generally keep posts of things I would like changed/fixed to the Official forums where they're more likely to be viewed by a Dev.

Whether you want to recognize it or not but as someone who welcomes new players and gives them links to helpful topics you place yourself in that position of "leader". Do you also post links to known issues, bugs and problems for those people?

I frequent the official forums too, but I can't say I've seen you make crisisims there. Are they new topics or buried in someone elses topic? Are you posting in the general gameplay forum, and are you using another account when making those critisims?

Again, you don't mind correcting others "mistakes" here about gameplay, but you don't post your own experiences with bugs and issues. That seems highly hypocritical to me.

Lastly, I looked a little more closely at that link of yours to the online shop and the ranking of the Complete box. Interestingly enough it places higher then the original game. Doesn't that seem a little odd and misleading to you? We know that the population is much less then it was pre-CU yet the newer box is supposedly selling higher then the original game? That says one of two things to me. Either that info is not accurate, or there has been a very significant ammount of people who have bought the game then left abruptly again.

If someone posts they're having an issue and it's due to a known bug I will point that out.  Most of my posts on issues on the Official forums are within exisiting threads, see the Issues sticky on the Muntions forum for an example post (my forum name there is Matt_NZ incase you don't know).

I take it you're talking about the gpstore.co.nz site?  Quite a simple explination on that.  The Complete set is the first retail pack of SWG to be officially sold within NZ.  Previously, any box sold in NZ was imported privately by the store from US stores.  This put a price premium on any store selling the box in NZ, I remember seeing it around NZ$150.  It was cheaper to by it from a US store (could get it for around NZ$80 that way) yourself and not have to pay the local stores markup fee.

I would say yes it is your responsibility when you make claims that are obviously misleading to potential subscribers.

That is of course if you care about your reputation.

Sorry, but I'm not going to treat every post I make here as a research paper.  If you have an issue with that then so be it.  Personally, I think you're clutching at straws by claiming the whole NZ store thing was "misleading."

So now it's "grasping at straws" when your information doesn't work to further your point? I mean, you didn't mind using that information to prove a point but when it doesn't hold up under scutiny you downplay it as irelevent?

I must congratulate you on your very effective use of deflection. Honestly, I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find out you work in public relations. :)

I can't really say I'd disagree with you there.

Altho I think that even public relations people tend to be somewhat more rooted in reality.  That's why they don't actually answer a question.  Rather they spin around it and then go in a new direction.

    Such as...

The servers appear dead.  What can you say about that?

"We have new players every day".

    They certainly wouldn't say...

"Well the others servers might be dead but mine is more crowded then ever".

Oh and I think anyone who enjoys this game should enjoy it while they can.  I don't mean to imply other wise.  Its not for me anymore but..

I can honestly say.. I have yet to see any server.. that is more crowded than they ever used to be.  PERIOD.

Unless you think pre-cu means the week after the NGE launched.. or something.

I think if you enjoy a game, you don't need to defend that.

Yet if you make statements.. that are obviously false.  It implies something.  I'm not sure exactly what.. but something.

Yes it bothers me when people make blatantly false statements.. on either side.  It makes me think they are running for President.. or something.

Uh, what information hasn't worked to "further my point."  You're the one that came out of the blue with some expectation that I need to conduct a research paper for every post I make.  Is that why I failed to "prove a point"?  Because I didn't go through the history of SWG being sold in NZ?

You supplied a link trying to imply that the Complete box is selling well in NZ, when in fact it appears that that information has many factors that contribute to it's innaccuracy - by your admission.

You made a mistake, and that's ok. It's forgivable.  :)

Compared to the other MMO's being sold from that store, it has been doing pretty well from what I can see.  Did you take up my suggestion of looking at the other MMO's being sold, not just WoW?  On all that I looked at, only LOTOR, WoW and the pre-order for AoC are higher ranked in both Current and Overall ranks.  I'm more inclined to be more interested in the Current rank as that's an indication of how well something is selling at the moment.
