what you fail to realise is the community has changed so much over the years. UO vets were (mostly) older gamers (above 21) and so PK was fine because few abused it. bring in Runescape and WoW and suddenly the community went from mature aged gamers to kids who wanted to grind for 100's of hours and pvp 24/7. the kids come in and abuse (heavily) any PvP and PK system.
if you implement such a system now or give a FFA-PvP system to such a player base (like in AoC) it only ends badly. the kids abuse the crap out of it, they camp, they spend so long online there are no safe times and whats worse they are jerks (sometimes rubbing it in or abusing you in chat).
sorry but the community has changed far too much to allow such a system. only EvE can attempt at such a system (and they have done it well) because their game takes time to level up in. kids want to grind to max lvl in 5 days, raid for the best gear then smash people who cant possibly beat them. take away the 5 days leveled and all of a sudden you have a lot less kids in the game.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds -Solid non level based game -Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
Thank you for posting this. I agree with you 100%. PK makes a better game and a more interesting community, wtheter you PK, get PKed or watch PKING.! Ask anyone who plays Runescape how much they miss pking when Jagex took it away half a year ago. That is just a small example.
Darkfall online will be your new game. I can tell.
OP is quite obviously an idiot. He begs for a special PVP that will be entirely one-sided for him and result in better loot than a mob fight. Now that my friends is one lazy and far from elite player. Strikes me totally as the type of person who would but a max-level character off E-bay just so he has basically nothing to fear from day 1. That's not "skill" that's just being in a turkey shoot.
You want scared for you life and skill just entire a mob area, where you can just barely take on a 1 on 1 fight, and place that mob close to others that may link. But of course that is not what he is looking for. He doesn't want a fight he could lose. He wants a guaranteed kill. Sad really. Seems like the bully in grade school who wondered why no one would play with him.
i play from day one and level up from there. as i level i pk. take my l2 character, its only lv 31 nd already has 72 pk. 20 are bots the rest are real players. i do one on one fight players, but i believe that a player needs to use every aspect avaible to him/her in game to win, weather it be using pots or jumping out and attacking players. and i have been kille beore while red i laughed and went on my mule and gave the guy a free gear. i will never do it again because he was the first who killed me. a guaranteed kill is helpfull but when the one guaranteed kill happens i like to be hunted down by other max levels. and i also have a group of friends whose ONLY purpose in game is to pk. and those are the people i game with, because i know why people dont play with me in game.
Ah the age old PVP debate. I say if the game has it from release leave it in and expand on it. Basically people arguing fall into 2 categories. 1. Real PVPers - Want to keep PVP in the game and would like other to learn how to play the game and stop crying.
2. Carebears - OMG you are all killers in real life and you like to eat babies!!!
I think there is a little more definition here... I suggest 4 categories:
1) 'Hardcore' PKers - - They like to refer to themselves as hardcore, real PvP people. They believe killing someone 15 levels lower is a challange and fun and will 'teach' that low level newbie how to play the game by following them around and killing them until they force the person to bow or something else. That's how it is in real life of course (sarcasm in case you missed it).
2) Real PvPers - - Want PvP to add realism, balance, and challenge to the game, while also adding consequences to players actions. They believe human players are more challenging, hence more fun, to play against. They are not for killing a low level newbie for no reason (being annoying IS a reason) and believe if they do, they deserved to be punished (and they realize that the low level player is not the one who should be punishing them since that's unrealistic).
3) Common PvEers - - Don't want to be griefed by category 1 players. Believe the only way to stop that is to: a) Not have PvP at all, b) Have PvP zones and non-PvP zones, or c) Have some PvP flagging systems or the like. They have fun with the grind and don't mind playing against poor AI if that's what it takes to not be harashed.
4) True Carebears - - PvP is an evil word and only real life murders, criminals, and juvenile delinqunce would want that. Believe that no other player should affect their gameplay even though they are playing a Massively Multiplayer Game.
I'd guess most people fall into category 3, then 2... with 1 and 4 being a distant 3rd and 4th place. The problem is category 1 people RUIN the game for category 3 and 4 people (most category 2 people will just deal). If you solve the category 1 problem, I believe you would get just about all the category 2 and 3 people and have a GREAT MMO!!! We can only dream (at the moment).
Just my $0.02
very accurate description. Horray for categories #2 and #3!

I think that was close enough. I also found other category
5) Gankers - some people they always grouped with friends and looking for victims. Level is not concerned. If you keep coming back, they will eliminate your existence again and again. They found a territory to gank any opposite side.
6) Predator - some people make himself like a predator, they ambush in somewhere and vanished after kill. They have all day do nothing but waiting patiently for the victim. Usually, they pick lower levels.
7) Notorious - They wanted to have fame in PVP or PK.
