what will tomorrow bring

renierrenier Member Posts: 106

Is there not a dev journal scheduled for tomorrow at Warcry? I believe so..

Can you just feel the electricity in the air?

Will the Darkfall Online community be vindicated by a monumental revealing of quality information and media or will they have egg thrown in their faces by the ones they hold in such high regard?

Oh the drama.. I can barely contain myself.

Isn't this thread you already started about the upcoming journal?

And If they show us a conquestvideo Im happy to see it. But anything showing some progress is fine to.

They have developer updates every two weeks. I don't see why you think tomorrow's update will be so 'make-or-break'.

Because you didn't explain your reasoning?

Come on now. We get developer updates every two weeks. In the past we have gotten them bi-weekly and in the future we will get them bi-weekly. Tomorrow's update will just be another update in a long and continuing line of updates.

So I don't see how tomorrow's update is so 'make or break'.

The reason is very simple and obvious.

They got bitch slapped upside the head a few days ago on the very same site that hosts their dev journals. You would think that ANYONE who has even the slightest commen sense would make damn sure that their next journal would be as quality as it can be and filled with things like videos of gameplay and good info... otherwise they just look like suckers with  nothing to show... and it makes the bitch slapping look valid and ruins them publically.

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even do anymore journals after that..

I suspect they'll do the "professional" thing and let the controversy die off.  They've already proven they won't be baited into revealing anything more than they've chosen  to so far, and life isn't like wrestling where people are compelled to respond everytime someone calls them out.

Yes that is what he is talking about.  Did you really need him to spell it out for you?

Yes, because I was unsure if something else had happened on War Cry. I don't know why Aventurine would care about that guy.

I guess it is, tho Weezer's cheerleaders wasn't so many he might hoped for. Not even the majority of the AoC fans at the official board thought he did well with it.

But 'renier' seems to enjoy it. "-Gimme a W gimme a E gimme a E"

Reniere my friend, no-one got bitch-slapped. If you read the comments on the fan-article in question, it got torn to shreds.

If you think about it, the whole thing looks planned. Tasos pokes a little fun at a game with a much bigger following than Darkfall, without naming the game in question. AoC fans react on the various forums and one writes something of a rebuttal. All the threads and the fan-rebuttal get a lot of attention on the interweb and many more people discover that Darkfall exists for the first time.

Basically, Tasos got the AoC fans to advertise the existence of Darkfall for free.

    Genius.

One AoC fanboi goes on a blog-rant and they should feel threatened by it? Even the AoC community distanced themselves from that nut-ball so I honestly don't think the DF devs will see it as much of a threat to their credibility. I would expect just a normal Devlog with maybe the conquest video thrown in only because they had already mentioned before that it would be coming soon.

It has absolutely NOTHING to do with WHO made that article.

It's listed on one of the largest MMORPG sites on the net and probably has already been seen by thousands of people... (potential subscribers??)

Not to mention the fact that everything he said in the article was 100% true..

and even if that guy wasn't talking about Age of Conan , it still makes no difference because he was comparing his game to other games and saying how much better it is with NOTHING to back it up....not just that day.. but for god knows how many years now..

He was personally called out on a major game site and basically called a liar among other things.... If you don't think that causes major damage to their credibility and does not warrant a proper rebuttal from him (assuming he even has the ammo)  than you're living in a dream world along with the Darkfall developers along with their delusional followers.

The article you're talking about got torn to shreds by those who commented on it so Tasos doesn't need to touch that thing with a stick.

I think that the only people who have taken that article with any seriousness are those who already hate Darkfall ( when it hasn't even come out yet so what is there to hate? ) or have already written Darkfall off as vapourware.

Everyone else just points and laughs.

Probably nothing new. The guys are using their resources to develop the game rather than hype for preorders after all.

Ugh, before I touch this...I'm just gonna say that I'm not supporting the OP in anything he is doing.  I don't expect any crazy new news...and don't think that there is some reason they need to provide some now that wouldn't also be valid reasons to have done so for a long time now anyway.  Some forum smack is barely grounds to consider anything.

But...umm...showing off gameplay builds isn't about preorder hype.  I really think some of you dropped off half your brains in the mailbox or something.  With so many games talking a big talk and then dropping the ball...showing off the actual gameplay is more about validating that you are actually pulling off what you're saying you will.  I don't know if you've noticed...but the years of video game flops have turned most gamers off "spoken" promises.  we kinda need visual proof of them.

It would be in their best interest to show a full video showcasing all the great stuff the swear is in the game.  I mean...they think they have ship combat that will smoke PoTBS, and thats a big thing to say when very few games have ever even HAD ship combat...and none of them really did it well.  If anything, I think the Disney PoTC actually did ship combat the best.  Point is, they need to put their money where their mouth is for at least ONCE in their lives.  That promised beta is running a little close now...I don't think they should be hiding this stuff anymore.  If beta really IS close...now is the last chance they are gonna have to get the word moving.

I'm nor disagreeing with you. I wish Aventurine would release more information but I respect their stand that they will not use much resources on marketing. The game is in development and marketing is  the realm of publishing. They also stated that you will try before you buy. That is a good thing for consumers anywhere.

As for videos, that is only CGI and moviemaking. We both know it cannot compete with actually testing the game out ourself with thousands of others palyers. I thing AoC will be a good although very linear PvE game. As for PvP I think they are not as far as they should be. There has been no released ingame PvP videos (that is not scripted with bots) and I think there vill be issues regards to lag, zoning, griefing and class balance. I think the devs are not as honest as they could be on this and that they are hoping to fix these issues on the run. They say they learned alot from the horrible AO launch. Lets not hope it was; it is OK to launch unfinished games, as long as you have a big enough fanbase and actually manage to fix the biggest problems before too much time has passed.

My prediction: like a man that farts during the middle of the public speech, the Darkfall developers will pretend nothing happened. They will have a "professional" update that reveals absolutely nothing about the game while making wild promises with a wink and a nudge.

There are a quite a few pics with the UI in them actually. You should check them out. Of course the UI follows the Darkfall trend of not being arcade-game-like (similar with the lack of floating names, big health bars, coloured numbers floating off everything, target rings, no radar etc) so it's out of the way and easy to miss if you're viewing thumbnails.
