It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
Ok if you get a blank screen, but can hear the sounds when you run AoC follow the following steps for a easy solution;
1. Goto the folder when AoC is installed and run an application called, SimpleConfig.exe.
2. Next under the 'Graphics' Tab - untick the full screen box and click OK at the bottom.
3. Restart the game and you should find all is well, while in the game you can goto the settings and change it back to full screen and you should be ok from now on.
Hope this helps.

Heh thanks for posting this here. I had the same problem myself too but I found the solution just like you did.
After starting the client and the command prompt opens up, I can quickly read all kinds of error reports happening but I have no idea what they are. At least the client opens up now as it should be.
Worked wonderfully!
Now just to wait untill the server(s) are up and start chopping off heads!

All MMO's have grinds. If you don't like to Grind then MMO's are not for you.

Bump, with a little extra:
This was merely a temporary solution for me. You CAN go back to fullscreen after loading but the problem may happen again shortly thereafter.
I used an NVIDIA 8800 GT, and updated my drivers to use Forceware 174.93 from Guru3D's site:
http://downloads.guru3d.com/ForceWare-174.93-XP-(32-bit)-download-1901.html
If I was not at work right now I'd link you to the official AOC forum thread that mentions other NVidia users having success with this. These drivers eliminated this problem.
Also, if you're having disgusting framerates on an LCD monitor, hold CTRL and hit ~ (tilde) to bring up a little menu on the screen. Click on "Change Device" on the right, then turn Vertical Sync ON. This will reload the client (without logging you off) and you will be fine when it comes back on. This is pretty much a must-do for any LCD users.
I'm sure that's mentioned elsewhere here but figured I'd list it anyway.
Just as a point of reference, my brand new PC was stuttering at 10fps when Vertical Sync was off.
It's now around 50 with it on, which is what I'd expect.
So if you're having major framerate issues and you use an LCD monitor, do this first.
Thanks for posting this it did not help me at all as I had no problem with the graphics. Why am I posting? F knows....
