I want to get some good performance and was reading how 3gb was nesscary for smooth game play....
So help me out
Mobo: P5b deluxe
Memory: G. Skill 2x1 GB DDR2 PC2-6400(400 mhz)
Now is this a good upgrade http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231145&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEMEMO050208&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEMEMO050208-_-DesktopMemory-_-L0A-_-20231145
Also please help me where I could get some more performance
Gfx Card: 8800 GTS
CPU: Dual Core 6600 @ 2.4ghz
PSU: OCZ Game X Stream Power Supply 600W
Any other info please ask here, also this is my current pc (Not one i am trying to build) So yea im thinking right now my weakest part is my memory or graphics card. Everything is stock clocked and i probaly will need to order fans if you guys recommend me to over clock.
Since the only fans i have are on the PSU, CPU and one on the back of the case.
Oh yea my case is Centurion 5...

not sure how much e6600 clocks but should reach 3ghz atleast, google it out, for cooler
i use arctic cooler 7 pro.. its cheap and its one of best..
If you can find DDR2 that runs at 800mhz instead of the 400mhz, I think it would be better. I noticed your mainboard choice can handle it and 4gigs is perfect for a 64bit OS. I'd suggest a bit more power for your PSU, if only for a possible future SLI config.
EDIT- If you can hold out 10-15 more days though, your going to be able to judge pc performance in AoC a lot better than at the moment.

where did you read that 3 gig of ram was needed for smooth gameplay?
and not to sure about that but with 3 gig you dont get dual channel
PC2=ddr2 , 6400=800mhz
you're not going to get masive improvement just by adding new ram, and your motherboard can only support up to 800 mhz anyway.
whats your gfx card? the new or the old one?
get yourself that bad boy if it can fit you mobo and case

overclock you cpu to 3ghz.
The memory foot print for the game client is about 1.5 - 1.8G. If you have 2G of RAM you gonna get swap thrashing really bad during gaming sessiong.
6400 is indeed 800 mhz.. it shows as 400 mhz under windows as its calculated some other way .. im not ram guy ;p
400mhz is the RAM BUS i think.....thats different than the RAM speed
You can get dual channel on the first 2 gb of ram placing them on the right slots (1-2-4 in my mobo), the third gb will be in single channel
Yea I read somewhere in one of the "Help boost your performance guides" on the beta forums and also theres a sticky here that 2 gigs in a minimum while 3 gigs is what you need for smooth performance, and 4 being the most needed.
I have no idea if i have 32 bit or 64 bit xp either.
So that memory is not compatible with this mobo? And all that info is from Cpu-z or some program.

As for XP...if you don't know what you have, I'd bet you have 32. Typically you only get 64 if you specifically ask for it. Also, bear in mind it's technically impossible to get 4 gigs on a 32-bit OS. OS overhead will cut it down to something like 3.5 gigs, give or take. For more than that you need a 64-bit OS.
As for the Mobo...well, you can't put a better kind of RAM in than what you have. You can however put more. That board will hold up to 4gb under a 32-bit OS. Your board only has 2 DIMM slots, so you're going to need to replace the 2x1gb DIMMs with 2x2gb DIMMs. One recommendation:

There's other options for 800mHz 2x2gb RAM there as well, varying in price quite a bit depending on how fancy you wanna get.
The CPU you have is pretty nice as dual-cores go. The Q6600 was what I was looking at getting until the new 45nm chips came out. Anyway, you can push that to 3 gigs in your sleep. Get a nice after-market cooler (newegg has a ton of nice ones, just make sure it'll fit your case and board!) and you should be set.

If this is what he meant than, perfect. The 800mhz DDR2 does run at 400mhz per channel, DDR2 is dual channel, so 800mhz total per stick slot pair(400mhz per stick @ 200mhz per stick side). I just wondered about the ram he chose in the link, it's rated as a 1000mhz DDR2 and the motherboard only supports upto the 800mhz range. Then I got confused when he listed the 400mhz.
Anyhow, I can just see a point during mid-late 21st century when we complain, from our nursing holmes, about how if our games require more than 2 terabytes, than it's just rediculous. .../epic fail

Haha, I know, I know. It's just a HUGE jump from current MMOs, and way above the speulated requirements for any other MMO coming out in AOC's generation as well (say, Warhammer?)
Agreed, lol. Most of us are spouting out monster rig configs, atm. It will be a little funny if Funcom can actually make good on the min. required spec. systems promise, at launch.

Yea sorry about that link. Been a while since I messed with ram so I saw the price and 2x 2gb dual channel and thought it was a steal. Seems thats the norm now though.
I will have to look into overclocking and such. Always been intrested in doing it and my first attempt I got scared and set everything back to default : (.

Hehe lets just say I feel a lot more comfortable with how Retail will look performance wise, still gonna see about overclocking and ram upgrade.
