Is it time for a new server/cluster?

docminusdocminus Member Posts: 717

From a social perspective and the massive one, Eve is great because it is only one "realm/universe".

But from what I read when it comes to new players and their chances versus veteran players (due to the skillsystem as it is), wouldn't it be time for a "second" server/cluster/universe?

It is a typical situation of any MMO if there are "old" servers, with many vets, that there is a huge gap in wealth, skills/levels, etc.

I guess many vets would say no to a new server?

For me as an eve n00b it would be fun to be able to return in such a case (I guess the short time I played still lets me remain a n00b)

Although a new server would be fun, I don't see the need. You can still use a ship just as good as a VET could if you have the skills, the can just normally use a lot more different ships than you been specialised in a few or just one.

"FROM WHAT YOU HAVE READ" the people saying that the skill gap matters are F*tards, it has no real / long lasting effects for new players. Maybe the first 2-4 weeks you are at somewhat of a disadvantage just b/c you dont know wtf is going on but its hardly a matter of someone else having more skill points than you.

Read the many many many threads about how new players are just as good as vets.... L2Play and you are fine.

There will never be a new server.

Learn to play Eve like a vet and you will soon work out that skill points arent everything. Once to specialise in a ship you can be as good as a vet  if your strategy and personal skill are good, NOT your skillpoints.

well ppl ignore the fiasco of the second server placed for china
the game is made for TQ and the game evolved whit the server
on serenity happen that first day all corp farmed like mads to get money to buy bpo
and 4 weeks they got POS in 00 but who can kill a POS whit 4 weeks of game ????
NONE ppl have to lock down the systems 24/24 so POS run out of fuel and get offline because they cant kill the pos

if a new server show up many veteran griefers that know very well the game will go on the new server and make your live a hell

imagine a corp that place some POS on very good moons after 4-5 weeks of play time and none can take that POS off
(ppl say that RA get 200 billions/month from moon farming, who make that from second month of server life will be unstoppable)

I wouldn't say Serenity is a complete desaster. They have a loyal playerbase, and it is slowly raising. Not too fast, but slowly. Once there is an established capital fleet, it should start raising faster.

Exactly. I except many of those POS's to go pop as soon as the first Cap fleets start popping up. It's only a matter of time. Nothing lasts forever in EVE.

there arent enough players online at once to populate a second server. If anything all they need to do is add more space onto Eve to spread people out more on the one server.

Not a flame here but NO! Eve does not need a new server in any way, shape or form at all. This is something that has been brought up many times and always ends the same way. Eve would be destroyed if this ever happened.

The perceived HUGE wealth gap is just that, perceived. Sure it exists but it is no where near as big as people make it out to be. Many vets tend to fly very expensive ships and they do get blown up, there is enough of a cash sink there to keep things in check. If a new server were to be put up tomorrow then many of the vets would run for it and with superior game knowledge they would in fact own most of the Eve universe in very short order shutting out the new players and the wealth gap would be way more than is even perceived on the current server right now.

And as far as the never catch up because of the skill system goes, do some reading and wee what others such as myself have to say about that. It's also a myth, nothing more than a false perception that players have. Sure you will never catch up in terms of total overall skill points but it doesn't matter when a new player can catch up in total skill points in the categories that matter. It isn't like a leveling type of mmo like WoW but instead of being capped at 70 you can just keep leveling and gaining more and more stats.

Adding multiple servers on Eve Online will break the "One world" feature of their game. I doubt they will split the population anytime soon.

  • LordmonkusLordmonkus Member Posts: 808

It's extremely unlikely CCP would ever add another server anyways. They have said on numerous occasions that they would never do that. To say never is such an absolute though and well we all know that things can change. The only way a new server would ever be added is if the games population got so high and there was absolutely no way whatsoever that CCP could deal with the lag at all.

Thanks for your views. It was just a question out of curiosity, no flaming intended.

Yes, indeed, I do not know the game enough. My question came up due to the negativism some people have shown regarding potential new players. As for myself, I guess I will simply jump into the game and see for myself.

Thats cool, but thats actually the point of EvE, you have players of all levels and abilities and those that will help and those that think you the next meal, this is EXACTLY as EvE was designed and its purpose...

it vexxed me a lil when I heard about it and I've been ganked a couple of times in the 18 months I've been playing, but in all honesty, it feels good, it feels some what real and if you get caught by an exploit, rather than something thats supposed to be there, you will 90% of the time get your stuff back and the exploiter will be penalised

The problem with the Chinese server is that everyone speaks chinese.  If everyone on tranquility spoke english it would be a similar server.  French, German, Russian, English, Romanian, with the language barriers people have their separate alliances instead of 1 or 2 superguilds.  Also English speaking Europeans suck, Eve made me European racist.

Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
if I were to kill a titan tomorrow and no CCP employees showed up to say grats I would petition it.
Waiting for: the next MMO that lets me make this macro
    if hp < 30 then CastSpell("heal") SpellTargetUnit("player") else CastSpell("smite") end

Nah, you already were.  Don't blame others for your own faults :).  Europeans are just fine.  I've lived in both Europe and USA... really not much difference tbh.

Also:  You do realize that Chinese has about 30 different dialects?  I forget how many are major language differences tho.  Not that your point is even valid.  There are already 2 super-"guilds" in EVE.  There are several smaller ones but there are 2 which basically hold most of the power currently... till someone forms a coalition to bust up the status quo anyway.

i would cancel my acct if they did.  sorry, one of the main reasons i bought eve when it went gold was the "one" server only aspect of it.  they read my mind when they said that because at the time i was really tired of 10-15 servers being available.

Ive been playing Eve online for a while now and havent seen the population over 25k on the server during my normal playtimes.

Making a new server isn't needed.

    PLaying: EvE, Ryzom

    Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum

No way should CCP waiste one moment making a whole mirror server cluster.

The idea new players can't "compete" is just ridiculas.

It does not take long to be in a effective ship. EVE is not a game of insta uber powergrind.

Even 3 year vets can't fly specific ships any better then a new player skilled for that same ship.

EVE devs need to be focused on moving the game forward with new content, preformance fixes.

Any server cluster used to make a mirror EVE can be used to support the current cluster to a degree the whole universe would preform better.

A Mirror EVE is not going to happen and it is not practical for moving EVE forward as a whole. It would just take rescources and waiste them to stagnate the games progress.

In short, a sensless money pit. Take that money and move the game forward.

I don't see the game appealing to the asains because of the time based progression and they like to grind and grind it out and don't care for customization but the PVP should be right up their alley really. I had a mate from china who came over to uni here for a couple years and he played WOW but couldn't understand why I liked all the customization side of it because all he wanted to do is grind faster than everyone else and prove he's the best with a certain class than everyone else so all the options didn't appeal to him.

Weird how people have different opinions.

Take 3 seconds and look at his profile. English obviously isn't his first language. Don't be an asshole.
