Big Installation Issues

HumphrieHumphrie Member Posts: 123

Hi All,

I dropped LotRO today, and have been really bored with MMOs in general lately, so - spur of the moment - I decided to try and download SWG and give it a whirl. I last played the game in its launch year (yes, I was there at launch... but I was never as attached to the game as many people apparently were, and I think that makes me less inclined to feel affronted by the big changes that the NGE brought), and actually worked my way up to running a level 5 city at one point before leaving.

Anyhoo, I know there's a lot of animosity, etc towards the game right now, and that's understandable, but I can't seem to even play it.

I spent like five hours downloading the freaking trial client, and it gets halfway through installation and asks for the cab3 file located on 'disk 2.'

I'm like: "Disks? Cab3 file? Uhhhh..." and promptly restarted the installation. It got to halfway through, and once again prompted me with the same message.

There's no way to bypass this, and the only option is to cancel the installation each time.

I eventually decided that maybe the download was somehow corrupted (although that really seems like a stretch) and have begun downloading it again. This means I won't be able to try installing again until tomorrow morning, but I'm really worried that the same damned thing will happen again. I downloaded this client from right off the SWG website, so I am a little confused as to how it could be missing parts of itself (I know, I know, many of you are yucking it up at this point - 'typical SOE' and all).

Has anyone encountered this issue before and, if so, how the heck did you get around it? I do want to give SWG its fair shake, even if it does suck as badly as everyone thinks.

Thanks for any and all help.

On the trial site, there's two files you need to download.  The second file is what it's referring to when it asks for disk 2, so point it to that second file you downloaded.

Alternatively, go to http://launcher.station.sony.com and download the Launcher from there.  Log into it with your Station account, click SWG in the games list and it'll download and install the SWG files for you in one go.
