I was thinking of creating a certain type of underground whereby people who are on a headhunters list are granted protection from bounty hunters if they join the guild. In return for this protection, the members of the guild must be prepared to protect other criminals like themselves. For example, the guild begins by word of mouth, I, a Lutin, will search for someone who is a criminal, perhaps even become a bounty hunter in order to gain access to the head hunter list. Once I discover them, I inform them of the guild and tell them to tell other criminals they meet. In time, the criminal community of one area will be informed of the guild AND its headquarters, which I hope will be a Lutin house, an underground burrow. When someone is in trouble, they are informed of this guild and will seek out the headquarters where, for a fee, they are granted protection and accepted into the guild. If someone is caught, they must swear never to reveal the secrets of the guild, by punishment of death.
Sorry guys if i am getting a bit ahead of myself, I know the game isn't even released yet, but I have this image of a dark elf running through a forest into a clearing. It is the middle of the night and behind him a mob of villagers and a game master charge after the dark warrior. He knows where to go and quickly runs to the entrance of the Lutin burrow where he is granted access. When the Lutins are questioned, they claim to know nothing and the villagers continue their search elsewhere

I like the idea, but will it be possible to just pay the fee, stay a while and not join the guild?  I am a guild leader myself, but I might need protection if I slay a couple of Lighters.

Also, don't forget to open a hidden casino and bar in your little house.

hmm good point, I hadn't considered other guild leaders and their awkward positions in seeking protection. Let me see, perhaps guild membership can be such that it requires no fee, only a contract which establishes a certain time of service in return for free refuge. For those who wish for protection but no membership, a fee will apply. Those under contract can be called upon at any time in any place in the time limit outlined in their contract for mencenary duties or else to protect other members of the guild.

Enkid, I am almost sure that bounties will only be good for the territory controlled by the noble who put out the bounty. The only exception to this will probably be the automatic bounty that gets placed on a character if he kills too many lower level characters.

So become a minor noble by capturing a fortess in the deep in the wilderness and let it be known that it is a rogue sanctuary. Of course the opposite alignment may come an wipe you out (if they find you) since you are not protected by the mana influence deep within your own alignment's territory. Still if you are valuable to the opposite alignment in terms of trade or giving them money they may allow you to exist in peace, especially if you are a thorn in the side of your own alignment.

Of course Oak, that would be an idealistic situation. However, when the game is released and we first begin playing, I doubt I will have the man power or resources to pull off such an opperation. However, it would certainly be worth my while to use the guild to progress to such a point where there are enough members to assist in the storming of a remote fortress.

I don't think the common un-owned fortress will be that hard to storm unless it is enhanced with purchased improvements. The devs have stated that even a rich crafter can hire a bunch of NPC fighters and take one over.
