Pre-order question CE/SE

I have the pre-order box for the CE.

Just so I know my options, as I understand it I will need to purchase a full copy and enter in the codes shortly after release.

Now, if I decide not to buy the CE and just get the SE..  or if my HMV store doesnt have enough CE's..  could happen..  then am I able to use the codes within an SE copy to continue to play after headstart is over?

Or will I have to restart a new account and lose my headstart characters?

I doubt anyone knows this. There is no release as yet and no one has tried it. Mythic is unlikely to have made an announcement for it because it would screw up CE sales. People pre-ordering for the early play benefits and then shaving $30 off the price if they really didn't care about the book and other 'inside' goodies would be wrong.

If people are trying to get the extra day (or two, I don't think it's been announced yet) and are pulling a 'fast one' by switching to SE at the store, I hope they force a new account and the early access characters are locked out.

While it is possible your local store is poorly managed, the CE pre-order sales were announced as drained a long time ago. Most should get to where they belong correctly. I would just plan for calling the store and telling them 'Hey. I'm buyer XYZ and I'm coming there ASAP.'

You're asking if you can pay for the SE, but still get the CE headstart?

Well the answer seems obvious when put like that.

I'm expecting HMV to mess this up.  I wont be able to collect on release day..  so..  I guess I wont invest too much into my headstart chars.  ..and of course get the best discount I can if they can only offer me the SE. :)

As far as I understand, there is some sort of grace period after the release date to give you time to pick up your copy and enter the relevant codes.

Yes, which is fine.  Not a problem.

Im worried that someone without a pre-order will walk away with my CE because it was put on the shelf to sell.

If I remember, I think I read that you will have 7 days after the headstart opens up to enter your real game code. And during those 7 days you should have the game in your hands.

it may be true with HMV, but they had a managers meeting aout this yesterday, so go in and speak tothe manager ofyour local store if you got it from there and get them to hold one for you with your £10 off

Yeah, you should be fine. And if there is a problem getting it then its on your retailer, not you.

However, if it has anything to do with trying to get that extra ONE day, relax, don't try to cheat the system. It's one day, you should be playing it for months at a minimum, one day is not worth risking losing your characters.

I've thought about this again and realised..  that I have paid for the CE pre-order.  The headstart bonuses, items etc that come with the CE pre-order pack I would assume, cost more than the SE pre-order pack?

I dont know on that one..  but obviously If I had to go for the SE, then I'd lose the £10 - but still have the bonuses..  that is if I can enter the SE codes..  and I dug this up:

    www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php

    IainC_Goa:

"This is true. If you have a CE pre-order pack and for any reason don't get hold of a CE retail box, you will be able to validate your account with an SE retail key and all your pre-order bonus codes will still be valid."

Good, I can play my headstart character without worrying too much..

All im concerned about now is GOA's ability to handle the servers..
