So does anyone think differently about EQII now that they do not have PVP planned for EQII? I personally think it's better off without PVP because it can start 'nerf wars'.
Cutting out the PvP won't get rid of the cries for nerfs by a long shot. Griefing will still exist, just as it did on the blue servers in EQ. As a matter of fact, not a thing has changed.
If they stick with the no pvp stance, all that it will mean is in 6 months they won't put up a server that they pay zero attention to. And no one will notice.
with no pvp it will lower the value of fun for some people, as some like pvp but not all the time. Itz nice to kill monsters but the occasional getting owned and owning other people is fun.
Personally, I would have liked to have seen it at launch, not because Im a big PvP fan, but because it would really add to the Qeynos Vs Freeport feeling. Anyway, the devs decided they would spend more time working on the finer aspects of the game. From what they have said, the PvP system they will eventually implement will be quite special, so its alright, as long as they dont leave out dance emotes at launch.

I'm not a big PvP'er but I do enjoy it at times. But in the beginning I will be wanting to power level my character, so I wouldn't even spend time on fighting other players. But since it will be added on later, I am just fine with that... quite happy, actually. Had they not put it in at all, I would have been a little upset but still played.
For me, PvP does not make the game. It makes up about 10% of the game, so the game on a standard grading scale can still receive an "A" without any trace of PvP. So EQ2 will be missing that 10% until they add it on, depending how good it is (I only care for the most basic PvP methods) it may get the full 10%.
So, I guess overall.. it hasn't changed the way I feel about the game.

I would very much like to see pvp added to EQ2. I dont mind if its not there for release, because it will take a while to get a character up high enough to pvp anyway.
If pvp is implemented, I think it should be done in a way so that anti pvp people will not be affected by it. It should be in a deferent zone and consentual. But i also want it to be a from of open pvp, because duels are just not all that fun.
Personally i would like to see a server made for guild wars or faction wars. Not a completely open pvp server, because I, like most other people, dont want to be disturbed while trying to lvl, but once done lvling I want to be able to roam freely looking for enemies to kill.
pvp is an end game mechanism for me. Once im done lvling and exploring, i want to test my skills in competition through combat with real people.
I am an old EQ1 player and in EQ1 there was no PVP... besides the pvp servers it had. I never really had a stance on pvp until I played Lineage 2. I did enjoy the fun of hunting other players down sometimes but it was 99% of the time just for payback for something they did to me.
Some people enjoy pvp...but from what I have seen the griefing that pvp brings to a MMO is tremendous. I had a very high PVP count, 150+? and had went red about 12 or so times due to other players attacking me randomly... sure you can say that fun or whatever but if you do infact like a game where open pvp is the thing, then Everquest is not for you.. ALTHOUGH, everquest does in fact have a few open pvp servers in Eq1 and will most likely have some later on in the future in eq2..
The ones of you that really do enjoy pvp and are turned away by the PVE aspects of most of the servers can easily play on one of the pvp servers. What is so bad about the game being majority PVE and only a few servers PVP? You can play on those servers and be completly content with your pvp nature and still enjoy the world of norrath.
The thing is... you people are not really mentioning those few servers that will be pvp... you see that it will not be implimented at launch, and is not the focus point of this game and automaticly start threads just to troll because you are unhappy about how you can't pvp at launch.
Oh, and Kinring you are correct...that is exactly what Sony had in mind with EQ1 and EQ2.... the thing is , the gaming population has both PVE and PVP players alike so they would like to keep both parties happy, but also it is their experience in Eq1 that PVE had well over the majority of players in it and the PVP servers were bare, with the exception of a few. They most likely are using this past experience as a building block for EQ2 because its predeccesor was so successful. ( the most successful game in NA. i might add )
So once and for all....lets stop making these pointless threads because this issue has been gone over time and time again... If you have some sort of problem or you have a veiw that you would like to be heard...why not post it where it will count... on the EQ2 forums, the one place that devs and other sony employees can see it.

The problem with pvp servers, is that they are usually completely open pvp, which is not what most pvpers really want. Its really not fair to point out a game with pvp servers and say "see how few people play those servers" or "this game will have pvp servers so why cant u be satisfied with that?". Most people prefer to lvl up to a suitable lvl before they try pvping. On a pvp server u are forced to go places to lvl where people will attack them before they are ready for pvp combat.
Look at how many people played DAoC(not quite as popular as EQ, but pretty damn close). They really did a good job of keeping pvp in certain zones and that gave people the option to pvp when they wanted, and lvl when they wanted(without threat of being pked). It would be like being able to take a char to a pvp server when ever u wanted to pvp and back to a non pvp server when ever u wanted to pve. Nothing wrong with that is there? And i believe that is what most people would like to see in EQ2(or something along those lines).
IF EQ1 had done pvp similar to the way DAoC did it, do u think it would still be as popular as it was? HELL YES! It wasnt the non pvp aspect that attracked most players to EQ, it was the graphics and gameplay. Not to mention people did have such a wide variety of online games to chose from back then.
Torx: "I did enjoy the fun of hunting other players down sometimes but it was 99% of the time just for payback for something they did to me."
Wouldnt it be fun to be able to go to an area designed for pvp, so u could test out ur characters skills? To be able to 'chose' when YOU want to pvp? that is really all that most poeople are asking for.
Torx: "but from what I have seen the griefing that pvp brings to a MMO is tremendous"
Greifing comes in ANY game. It does not come from pvp. Infact, i see pvp as more of an anti greifing aspect. Atleast the game gives u a chance to kill the person griefing u.
I'm glad they decide to NOT go with a PvP based game. That just isn't EQ in my opinion. In any event if it was PvP I'd be sadly not planning to buy it. I'd end up staying with EQ. Hell I might stay with EQ anyway....
Well as long as they are planning on adding a Good vs. Evil PvP later on, which i think will add alot more depth and roleplaying to the game, im happy. PvP right off the bat isnt a great idea anyways. ppl want to settle into there roles early on and dont wanna be bothered by 10year olds with nothing better to do than give other ppl just trying to relax and lvl a hard time.
But it almost seems a natural course for EQ2 to take, there is a good side and an evil side. This aspect just seems to scream RvR. I really do hope they add it later. Just something else to look foward to. My god i cant wait.
I think a pvp would be nice if it was like guild vs guild, good vs evil or something like that on their own servers. But I dont think it should be like before where a high lvl could kill a lvl 1 and wait at your respawn point and do it over and over again.

Good point you have there.... although eq did have multiple different approaches to their pvp servers, I can see your point . Although, if you are looking strictly for places in a PVE world so that you can " test " your skills then wouldn't that be solved by arenas ? Not only did Everquest have entire zones just for pvp but they had small arenas in most cities. You could go into these areas and be totally unrestricted as far as pvp goes.
It is true that there are people that will mistreat you anyway they can if they get a chance to ... but the griefing I am referring to is mostly PVP related, and which could not be possible if pvp wasn't available to them. For instance....a higher level player going to a zone right outside of a newb garden and waiting for the first player 30 levels under him to walk through so he can gank them. Then camp his body for hours so that he can't get his equipment. There is infact greifing in PVE games but not nearly to the extent of a pvp game because there are SOOO many more ways to grief when pvp is involved....
Pvp griefing can result in loss of money / equipment/ experience.... pve greifing is just some annoying jackass trying to bother you that you can simply /ignore.
As far as open pvp goes in Everquest....they did make one server that i know of called Sullon-Zek, which was diety based ( and I did play on it for a bit ) and is somewhat the closest thing they made to RVR... basicly evil towns / good towns and neutral towns could all attack one another but not each other.
I understand that many games have came out since EQ and RVR is a very successful idea although just because of its success in one or two games does not mean that it is required or even needed to make this game fun or enjoyable. I also can see why alot of DAoC players would ask why EQ2 doesnt have a RVR aspect, who knows, given that this new EQ is based on a evil / good setting they will most likely have a few pvp servers based on it.

everquest 1 was such a great game that it didnt need any PvP. the games PvE was good enough. if eq2 follows it it wont have any problems and if they decide to implament it like in daoc maybe it will shine maybe it wont. i would like to see some PvP though
I'm happy there is no PvP in EQ2. I'm even more interested now than before. MMO's can bring out the worst in people because it is like wearing a mask. You can say and do things in an MMO you would never say or do in real life; PvP only makes this problem worse. People tend to view PvP as approval of griefing by the devs. and then grief away.
I'd much rather play PvE in a cooperative setting with friends than have to look at every passing toon as a potential enemy.
