The ops point is that this change in transfer policy is suppose to be a signal Wow is in trouble.  That what does not make since.  Pve to pvp transfers has nothing to to with War coming out.  I think has to do more with the fact that there is no real difference between pve and pvp servers and the new expansion coming out.  There are alot of players who created characters on non pvp servers who then started playing on pvp servers.  Think its just a changing of the policy to now allow people to bring over pve toons to pvp realms.  After all its not aimed at getting more players to play its just allowing exiting toons or people who choose to lvl their chars on pve to transfer over to pvp.  It was just a policy that should have been inacted a long time ago.  Think it is aimed at players who originally created toons on pve servers and want to come over to experience pvp servers not that here is much difference.

Absolutely hilarious how afraid Golieth is to lose subs to David.

Actually, their new expansion, has for a long time, been intended to add more pvp elements to the game. WIth the nearing of their expansion, and their players wanting toon transfers to experience this expansion better, its a given bliz would allow it. Its more money for them anyways.

It has nothing to do with WARHAMMER ONLINE>

This thread is retarded...everyone shut up...and for those saying warhammer is making wow shake in their boots...gimme a break...

    10m subscribers

    Vs

< 750,000 in the 1st of month of Warhammer being released and they have had lots of advertisement so far and 800,000+ beta subscribers that wanted in beta and then some in closed beta. As I realize wow has been out for so long, warhammer has been in closed beta for over a year and many people have known about it, many. It's probably been the most hyped games ever released. Did it live up to it's hype? well that's for you to decide.

They aren't scared at all. They just want to make sure they keep all of their subscribers, that's it. Therefore, they are making moves to try to keep even more subscribers and in my eyes, could be a good move. I would be sort of pissed non the less If I was still playing, but would honestly probably be switching my old pve char to a pvp server.

War will have a respectable player base, however I don't think they will ever override wow's player base =/

Again this thread is retarded. There will be competition with mmorpgs, who cares. I don't think War has the power to knock off wow, not good enough. But we'll see how the next months go. They had a nice update today.

LOL@ all you who had WOW as your first mmo (I'm sorry to say, it is sad, but welcome to the mmo world, hopefully you grew up and got yourself in a better mmo)

LOL@ people thinking WOW is the god of mmos (you do know toolbars, chest drops, and tanking were terms used WAAAAY before Blizzard even knew what an mmo was?)

LOL@ Blizzard doing something they said they would never do (every company does it, there was once a time SOE said EQ2 would NEVER have pvp, look at them now. Times changes, companies change, people change)

LOL@ the guy who called Warhammer  WOW 2 (with slightly new improved graphics, keyword slightly)

    First mmorpg was Asheron's Call

Wow is not the God of mmorpgs. However, gain respect due to their mass subscription numbers. They made a casual game that's very easy to play for any gamer. That's what makes it so popular. No grindfest and easy to use. Sadly, it's still the king of mmorpgs right now whether you want to believe that or not...w/e...and I'm not even a fan of wow anymore and I'm saying it eh. I respect them for what they are.

Blizzard sure is doing this at a weird time. Making PVE and BASICALLY turning it into PVP realm wise...That to me DURING THIS TIME is saying "Hey Warhammer, we'll make our game full of war as well. Everyone from pve, can now go pvp. WAR" , LOL or something similar to that effect. Weird time for them to decide to do that.

Warhammer is not wow 2...some people just say stupid things...warhammer is totally different eh..just some things are the same...but overall a totally different game...people just fucking compare the 2 because wow is the biggest game and almost everyone on here have tried it. Also being that it has had a relation with mythic in the past of some sort, we tend to compare em =/ sucks and I'm sick of it eh. WHO GIVES A FUCK.

Leveling on a pvp server was not difficult at all...  Anyone that thought so needs to just play a single player game.  In all the alts I leveled on pvp servers, each one I only had a few good encounters on the way.  I played that game so much and I can't remember a time when I got camped or anything.  I have never spent a second on anything but pvp servers.  People get camped one time, or heard about it and they are spooked for life?

heh, WoW is actually the God of Mmorpgs. Doesnt mean you have to worship it, but whether or not you like the game, it is dominating the market. It has become the most international, the most popular, the most successful, the most solid mmorpg to date.

That kinda puts it at the top of the food chain champ. Like i said, you dont even have to like something to accept the truth of it.

I am sure some day another MMORPG will come along and surpass WoW's record of success, until then it will be WoW. Personally the only mmorpg i can see doing that, is blizzards next mmorpg.

Depends what class you are. A use to eat anything that wasn't a tank for breakfast, STV was an absolute nightmare.

"EHEHEHE LOL BLIZZ, U GO DOWN NAOW!"

It's a wonderful start each morning, seeing people trying to gloat over some new misfortune of Blizz's, often with excessive usage of "lols" to futher enhance their intelligent arguments ^^. Blizzard have, are and will continue to make more money than you'll never even be able to imagine of the game you lot find so hipp and cool to dislike, it's the new black to hate wow!

For the topic, who cares? Leveling in this game, or rather, in Old Azeroth these days is a breeze. It should be, all the content is either in Outlands or in Northerend to come. For the lad who claimed that lvling up on a pvp server is hard.. come on! How hard is lvling in wow? It was perhaps 'frustrating' 3 years ago, a bit annoying two years ago, the ocacional nerd rogue stalking you now and then 1 year ago. Today? Ehm.. if you define this hard, I see why people think there's skill in WoW ^^. Wow's a zero risk game, all you lose is the ress time.

If you feel offended a player gained 5-10h extra from not getting ganked a single time, they champ, you need to get some fresh air. I'm sorry, I know that's a watered out "internet tuff boi" slogan, but in this case it's simply the truth.

Meh i can easily lvl a toon to 70 on a pvp server without much trouble ppl who lvl on pve then pay for a transfer on pvp must have some money to waste .

This post should be transfered to wow forum .....

Blizz will soon announce their new MMO -> Starcraft Universe based on PvP and everything will be fine then.

    Until then WAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHH

Had 2 lvl 70 toons on Magtheridon EU (canceled now, bored with grindfest)

Although it is a PvP server, it is also home for Nihilum, and therefore a proof that hardcore PvE guild can do well in PvP environment.

Blizzard's new server transfer option is, IMO, just another way to minimize initial cash flow loss when some of the players leave for WH in the next week. I'm not saying, ofc, that they will cover all of it, but even with 1% of the existing toons transfer, it is a nice amount of money.

It is really good thing to see companies compete for customers in any way thay can. I'm quite happy if WH have the quality to make Blizz spooked, and will be happy with sucessfull WotLK (although I doubt I will play WoW again) because it will force Mythic to improve WH even more.

Let's not fight among us, fellow players, let THEM fight for us, and whether we play WH or WOW, our gaming experience will prosper...

    Best to you all!!!

See (some of) you at the broken gates of Inevitable City...

Actually, it doesn't prove anything. We already know that by spending more time ingame than in life itself you will be put on a pedestal in WoW. The game is just so easy, both PvP and PvE, that all you need is time. Nothing else.

Good fun though, uptill a certain point when it becomes more of the same.

I tend to agree with you.

I will say this. Think of WoW as a quality television series. They run 5-8 seasons theses days and then they start (usually) to lose the audiences they used to have. Quite often, they will rally and throw a couple more seasons at the screen though before fading away into reruns.

Now the analogy isn't perfect. When a show ends, it's gone. WoW will just fade (over time) as did other big name times now quietly chugging along with a fraction of the subs they used to command.

Will it happen today? No. Next week? No. In the next three years? Probably we'll see some decline by then, almost definitely.

The most important thing to remember, is that it is normal. The rise, the prosperity and the fall are inevitable. Every 'empire' goes through it. Blizzard is working on it's own next WoW 'killer'.....knowing full well that when they truck it out, it will be to retain the market share they need to be an effective business. That's all it is...business.

  • Black_ElvisBlack_Elvis Member Posts: 188

To me it just speaks to the mindset over at blizz these days.  One of "we will do whatever it takes to stay number 1."  Nothing wrong with making profit and operating a business, but, when you begin to compromise long-standing policy just to make another buck... its sickening.

Obvious money grab by Blizz is obvious.

  • Tuck2000Tuck2000 Member Posts: 361

This is a good indicator they are concerned. WAR will not kill WOW it's just to big now, but it can put a world of hurt on it's profits for a couple of quarters and that is what they fear. No one wants to see market share dip even just a little bit. People say they make ton’s of money well that's not sitting in some vault it get invested and diversified. They take even a 3 or 4 percent hit on the subscriber base then some is going to get fired. Businesses are like sharks and you need to keep swimming or they drown even big ones it may take 5 or 10 years but they do. So 100Kor 200K people dropping accounts for 3 months is a big deal. Which is what I guess will be the situation for them in the next quarter.

That's pretty disturbing. Why such strong hatred for a game? I'm no fan of WoW myself, of course, but I just don't get how people can be so insanely hateful about it most of the time, wishing it got destroyed, etc. Who cares what WoW does?
