Maybe it's part of an old KGB brainwashing program run on use within our own education system one generation at a time.

You need to travel the world and you will see the USA is the least racist country in the world.

I have traveled throughout the world, met everyone from high to low in private and public sector, and the USA always impresses me.  The average, decedent American.

Racism is big business in the USA; lots of free money, hand-outs, jobs, and opportunities.  Most people know this but if you "make-it" you better participate in the charade.

Haven't traveled to much, just hearing from the media that race seems to be such a big issue for the elections. I wanna hear what peoples opinions are on this outside the media hype.

If you ask me, the most racial country would be England, but thats from personal experience so don't flame me

Both the UK and Germany do a horrible job of integrating their immigrants.  France is up there too.  You essentially have large swaths of the sprawl which are completely ethnic ghettos.  Not just socioeconomic but ethnic.  None of those countries are really willing to fit immigrants into their picture of what it is to be a member of that country.

The term "immigrant" usually boils down to non-white.

You could have been born in Germany, raised in Germany, speak the language perfectly, be as knowledgeable as any citizen, and most people still wontt consider you a true German if you're something like Turkish in origin.

Every ethnicity is represented in the US.  However, most other places in the world are predominently of 1 ethnicity.  Racism is a problem in the US because we have to deal with it.

you should travel outside the US. There are some countries that are so racist they try to wipe out an entire race over and over and over. At least 12 countries come to mind right off the bat...Im sure if I do enough research, that would easily triple.

US...compared to other countries, its hardly racist. Ive definetely seen worse.England and France, in my opinion are more intolerant of people of other races and nationality. Hell, Children of Men even played off of England's bad immigration situations.

That has to be the most ignorant thing I have ever seen. But you never do suprise me.

Yeah, the US is so racist and the most hypocritical country this country www.ess.uwe.ac.uk/Kosovo/Kosovo-Massacres.htm just pales in comparison.

Get out in the world and read up on it. Stop acting so sheltered and ignorant. Next time you declare the US is the most hypocritical country, look in your own backyard:

I lived in Japan for 4 years,  I loved it.  But I can't count how many times cabs refused to pick me up or how many resturants,  bars,  etc wouldn't let me in because I wasnt Japanese.  **  my buddy got into a cab and this driver drove him a good 10 miles the wrong way.  my buddy kept telling him that he was going the wrong.  Eventualy the driver stopped and told him to get out,  no money,  no nothing  just get out....  took him over 4 hours to walk home.  I lol'd about it,  he didn't think it was funny though

The most polite racist I ever met,  they  keep apologizing as they kick you out.

**Not so much Tokyo,  but in the burbs where I lived and 99.9999999% of the pop is the same race

I used to admire Canadians I used to see traveling through my area when I was  kid but todays Canadians are dip shits.  The last 2 I have talked to are the most repulsive people I have ever met.  Desert Foxx just amplifies my feelings. On top of that they harbor terrorist and deserters. They have really changed over the years.

That being said, the US is the most transparent country in the world. The world know everything about us unlike people like Canadians that have their human rights laws with terrorist trying trying to silence decent. Read some Mark Steyn or conservative Canadian blogs to see how they are treated.

Japan is one of the HARDEST countries to become a citizen in if you are not born there. Let's put it this way, a former US citizen became famous as being one of the first US citizens to become a Japanese citizen in 2002.

And America is an evil bigot for getting angry when thousands of illegal immigrants cross our borders every month and pretend to be American citizens to work for higher money and then send it to their families in Mexico. And yet, many countries makes in almost impossible for you to transfer over as a citizen LEGALLY.

    Ironic. Isn't it?

They have ALOT of things going for them.  Such as next to no crime.  I'm not talking about just the violent crimes eigther.

I mean you can park your bike at a train station without a lock on it and it'll be there the next day.  Leave your laptop on the train?  Go to the station and pick it up first thing in the morning,  it'll most likely be there.  Drop your wallet on the street somewhere,  really good chance it'll turn up at a police station.

Kids start school there really young,  like 4 or somthing.  They go to school BE THEMSELVES.

Freaked me out when I first arrived,  all these toddlers running around alone.  Buying train and subway tickets and going about there business.

Actually saw with my own eyes a few times.  When their polititians or business men get caught in a lie.  They get on the news,  get on their KNEES and beg the peoples forgivness and resign

Sorry buddy but I gotta do it -

ROFLMAO, did you even read these articles before you posted them?

    http://www.robert-fisk.com/articles589.htm

"They were in receipt of “fertilizers”, we were told, which could be turned into explosives. When it emerged that Canadian police officers had already switched the “fertilizers” for a less harmful substance, nobody followed up the implications of this apparent “sting”. A Buffalo radio station down in the US even announced that the accused had actually received “explosives”. Bingo: Guilty before trial."

If you're going to use an article to demonstrate how the Canadian media is worse than the US with regards to racism don't include one that argues against your point.

    http://nativecoach.wordpress.com/2008/08/23/top-ten-racist-towns-in-canada/

The first line is "I’ve compiled a very unscientific listing of the top ten racist towns in Canada."  Then he goes on to show himself to be racist against white french people when he posts "1. Anywhere, Quebec" in other words anywhere in Quebec.  Unless your intention was to illustrate the thoughts of one canadian racist but I doubt it.

    http://www.canada.com/topics/news/national/story.html?id=f469b36e-c587-40e7-98e5-3aa50a371318&k=23802

Canada's use of the term "visible minorities" to identify people it considers susceptible to racial discrimination came under fire at the United Nations Wednesday - for being racist.

The world body's anti-racism watchdog says in a report on Ottawa's efforts to eliminate racial discrimination in Canada that the words might contravene an international treaty aimed at combating racism.

In other words by identifying and labeling people who may be potential victims of racial discrimination in Canada, Canada is racist.

    http://www.hopesite.ca/remember/history/racism_canada_1.html

This site covers the racial groups that have immigrated to Canada and here is the story of one such group from this site:

"The Underground Railroad includes the routes, stations, safehouses, abolitionists, conductors and communities where blacks who freed themselves from slavery by escaping the plantations in the U.S. traveled until they reached to Canada. While the British abolished slavery in 1834, the U.S. still maintained slavery and this led many black Americans to escape from slavery to places of freedom from enslavement."

    http://www.zmag.org/znet/viewArticle/9062

This one is the only one that properly illustrates your point.

IMHO - I agree racism is alive and well in Canada.  I myself have been called racial slurs on several occasions.  My co-workers (various ethnic backgrounds chinese, black, white, hispanic) agree that my supervisor, who is east Indian, treats the other east Indian workers better, but when a job comes up that requires responsibility I've noticed he will choose the white people to tackle it.

"The liberties and resulting economic prosperity that YOU take for granted were granted by those "dead guys"

I wouldn't say we are the worst, probably not the best but our dirty laundry gets aired for everyone to see while other nations kill off (literally) such stories.

You also need to take into account sexism.  I feel god aweful for a lot of women around the world.  Again we aren't the best at this either but there are a lot worse places.

  • streeastreea Member UncommonPosts: 654

While the US isn't at a place where it should be, it's a LOT better then everywhere else. Killing or hurting people due to race does happen, but it isn't accepted, while in a lot of other countries it is and it happens a lot more often. Like another poster said, about a dozen different countries come to mind, and with a bit of research, I think I'd find about three times as many.

  • baffbaff Member Posts: 9,457

It's a lot more racist to it's own people than in my country, and a lot more racist to it's own people than many of the other countries I have visited. It's really noticeable wherever you go, and all visitors to your country from mine, mention it.

But it's not what you would call a world leader in racism. There are plenty of countries with civil wars going on.

America hardly tops Zimbabwe or Israel for example.

  • paulscottpaulscott Member Posts: 5,613

Hicksville USA(yes there are some in the north_ isn't much more racist than a majority of the world.  Americans are just asses and say what's on they're thoughts.

The parts of the US that aren't hicksville US just aren't as entertaining to the media when they're trying to paint a picture of racism and whatever.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

  • Wharg0ulWharg0ul Member Posts: 4,183

    this topic is amusing.

Yeah, racism is alive and well in the USA...but not in the way most of you are thinking.

the US bends over backward to accomodate those of other races. However, the courtesy is not reciprocated.

Example.....Black man gets a flat tire in a white suburb. Gets out, changes the tire, and drives away.

White man gets a flat tire in the ghetto....he's not going to make it to the trunk.

And don't tell me it's because of something that our ancestors did. First off...how's that OUR faults? we weren't even alive then.

Second off....if that is their excuse, then why aren't NATIVE Americans behaving in the same fashion?

I am not a racist, mind you. I give every human the same chance regardless of color, religion, etc.

HOWEVER...after a while, after enough years go by, after traveling, and meeting people, and spending enough time among Americans....you begine to realise the sad truth. The one that everyone wants to deny.

    The stereotypes are true.

And I have a legitimate question here. Why do we have Black History Month....Black Entertainment Television....but no hispanic history month....or oriental entertainment television?

...PS...I'm less worried about racism, than I am about religious bigotry. Anyone who's not Xian in this country  is a second-rate citizen it seems, in a BEST case scenario.

    No mate.

    Everywhere.

The media has nothing to do with it. Everyone and his dog has first hand experience of America and American's.

Tourists don't go to Hicksville USA. They go to New York, Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
