Hey Everyone,
Like a lot of you I purchased Warhammer and I definately see a breath of fresh air from the common content of a MMORPG. Heck, it has even sucked my wife in and she plays every chance she gets. I started thinking though, what is stopping me from really getting sucked into to this wonderful game.
I love the PvP. I hope they can find a way to create more of a open world enviroment for PvP. The scenario's are both a curse and a blessing at that point. The graphics are definately on par and the community is fair.
So again, if the gameplay is fun what is the game missing, why am I not awed and sucked in? Well, its because I can't be unique. Every class is pretty much the same with only very few minor differences even if you choose a different tree for your points to go into. I need to have some feeling of being different then the runepriest next to me. And why is there still no clothing that can go over armor? When it comes to being able to look unique it has been perfected. Ultima Online gives you this experience but still no one has caught onto its importance for some of us gamers.
Secondly, where is my housing. Games like EQ2 game promise of housing. Running into a building and talking to a person to visit your house is not housing. I want to physically place it, physically walk into it, and physically decorate it. Again, this has been nearly perfected though Ultima Online.
Now calm down! I am not going to go back to Ultima Online because it has its own downfalls and after years and years of playing it I am not going to return (again). I simply want to see the great things, the SIMPLE things (yah I know the housing itself with lock down items; etc; would be a drag on server resources but it would be worth it) taken and used in other games.
Finally, the topic of Player Quests. A player quests difficulty should be measured by how many are particpating in the PQ. We know that its already built into the coding to detect how many players are particpating and contributing, so why not auto adjust the difficulty. This would improve PQs and those who are new to the game can still experience them with a chance to defeat them.
And finally finally, there is no Chuck Norris in Warhammer, I think a Black Orc has eaten him. *CHEER*
Comments
Chuck noris will be in WAR as soon as the military people get into WAR in large enough numbers.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
@OP: PQ stands for Public Quest, not Player Quest. Just fyi.
Other than that, I disagree with everything stated above. Trophies and various other items gathered as you progress can help to differentiate your character from others very well.
However, it sounds like you dove into WAR without much background on what it was about, then when a few aspects of play were not completely as you had hoped you came here looking for advice (the worst possible forum to ask for advice on, mmorpg.com is a cesspool as far as credible, reliable information is concerned - this can even be seen in articles written by many of the so-called "correspondants".).
The goal is not to be unique in WAR, quite the opposite, the design is that each player is to be an integral part of it's realm's forces in the conflict against the enemy. You are part of an army, a piece in a board game that has been brought to life in electronic form, you are not meant to feel like some unique, special hero, because in WAR player characters are not meant to be viewed as such. You are one of many like yourself, fighting for a grander purpose than "looking cool".
This is not some kiddie game, there is no dance emote here, you are not expected to spend time inside a house decorating it as a timesink to keep you playing. You are expected to spend time on the battlefield, crushing skulls and bathing in the blood of your enemy. Then bragging about the victories to your mates.
You are looking at it from a biased viewpoint based on your experiences with other mmorpgs (in my opinion), and as such, have found flaws that really are only considered to exist by you or anyone sharing your opinion. Those of us that understand the bigger picture and what Warhammer is (dare I say it, the "veteran" tabletop and whfrp players), have no concerns related to the above.
Realm Pride my man, learn to love it, learn to be a part of it.

I can see your epitaph now, on the day you expire. It will read "Wasted Potential".

Last ive heared is whole barrens community has take there residence in WAR talking about chuck norris, but they all left again becouse its wow2 so no sense playing it then and they continuing talking about chucky in barrens wow1:P
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
Ok, I did not DIVE into War without knowing what I was doing. I am well aware that each person should be an integeral part of the.... war. I am not saying that this is a bad game, and I apologize about the whole PLAYER QUEST thing... I have a newborn and am going on 2 hours of sleep atm hoping my wife gets home soon so I can get some sleep before work.
As far as looking for advice... I do not see how I was trying to find any advice. I was stating a few of my perceptions of the game. How does being unique in appearance effect your contribution, furthermore, if I am a Runepriest and I want to go more the damage route then healing route it should make a bigger impact that what it does instead of cripple me overall. The game is very well balanced for the most part to your point.
There are a lot more pros and cons then what I have listed and my thing is that some of the greatest aspects of some games have been ignored entirely as new games come out. Yes housing is a stress on resources when done the way UO had done it, but, it would be a great additon to a game like WAR. When I think of PVP I think of the way UO use to be. I would love to see these scenario quests spill over into the normal game, and I would also like to see the normal game expanded upon.
I know the WAR team has some great ideas and I am simply trying to motivate more people to see my view to hopefully make a difference in the game. I has a lot of potential and has by far had one of the best launches in the industry, but it still falls short of a absolutely stellar game for me. Maybe its because I've gotten older over the years but I still know what I am looking for in a game. And trust me, if I could program it or find a company to use my ideas I would give them for free. I gave up on programming though a long time ago when it was not profitable for me and I have not done much with it since.
Anyone curious though if the two new classes were intentially left out specifically to compete with wrath of the lich king? I mean, if you think about it, you can get access a weak early, which is a few days before lich king. It will also involve investing quite a bit of time to accomplish that goal.
First off, I don't think the game will beat WOW out in any way or fashion outside RvR or PQs (let's face it while WOW's PvE is better than War's its PvP is worser than Vanguard's).
Secondly there are no houses where you can just plop it down on land and start decorating in the Warhammer univers and if it was you would be taking a chance on it getting pillaged and destroyed by Chaos, Dark Elves, even your own Order companion the Witch Hunter (no one owns houses in Warhammer).
One of the problems I see in Warhammer is this "IT'S STILL YOUNG" in comparison to WOW, it has hasn't had a great deal of time to fix what is broken or improve on things because people don't have the patients to sit and wait around for two years for them to put in what other games already have.
When they dropped the ball of not putting in a DE tanking class I and a host of others who played Destruction from beta one to one week of live just completely and utterly stopped testing the game (the devs wasn't fixing shit fast enough towards live).
Far as your question about unlocking the Black Guard through quests and such, I have recently picked up WOW and started playing to unlock me and my son's Death Knight class on Argent Dawn, and I can tell you know if it wasn't for Warhammer dropping the ball with the hold off on classes to play (Black Guard, Choppa) we wouldn't have even looked at the game (they F&*$ed up , pure and simple with that).
First off who the hell wants to do a bunch of quests and waste 30 days on a class they are gonna nerf to hell to bring in line with other classes within the game at launch (I'm not paying money to beta test shit in that game). FOr those that take up the mantle and test the Black Guards and Knights, I applaud you. Make sure you put some good info up on the forums here so I can decide if I wanna come back to the game or not.
I have to agree, the main element of this game is PvP in the form of RvR, be they scenarios, keep and/or city sieges. That's what this game is all about. Your toon play an important role in the team, your warband of brothers.
With that said, I wouldn't mind if there is such as a permanent houses/guild base for a guild or an alliance. This would serves as a launchpad, a place where all members of one or more warbands can assemble, and get organized before they are instanced to a warcamp, and deployed to the RvR lake immediately. It's definitely better than Pug grouping.
I know I will recieve the "Thas whut dey sayd bout AoC" comment on this one, but it is the truth.
Wait until higher levels and you will see MUCH more diversity in armors, abilities, appearance etc.
STOP WHINING!
Hmm, I am level 32, when will I be seeing this? I am not whining either, I am stating fact. As I mentioned. I like the game a lot and will be sticking with it, but just because I am not ashamed to point out flaws in a game I like does not mean I am whining.
Didn't say you were whining, it's my sig.
As for the topic, how exactally do you manage not to see the differentiation between different mastery paths amongst other players? That is what makes you unique amongst your class. Appearance makes you unique amongst your realm, your class, and your mastery.
You are not going to see anything different cosmetically between the different mastery paths, it is all seen in the playstyle of that player and their effectiveness in different areas of combat.
STOP WHINING!
I don't know about the mastery lines in other classes, but the Witch Hunter does pretty good in its lines. One focuses on front load damage, one focuses on DoT attacks and the other on stealth and flanking attacks. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the differences. I have heard however, that other classes don't have very distinct lines.
My opinion on housing is that it would be a BAD thing for THIS game. (though I dhave enjoyed housing in other games) We certainly don't need anything else to distract more players away from the front lines. Also, I don't think something like housing would add significantly to the player base to add to the overall populations found in the open rvr.
New features need to add to the war effort, pvp focus of the game, not detract from it.
Housing in WAR would utterly fail...it's a battleground where burning buildings are the norm, nay they are the necessity....I don't want to have to run around your house that has been placed in the middle of nowhere just to get to my quest, it takes me out of my immersion.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
Draenor , I never thought of it that way. Thanks for showing me the other view of it. So it would have to be kinda in the middle of no quests but this would mean barely anyone would see your house anyways. I don't mind the weaving, but again, I see your point.
