Lets deforest this world.

Lets get together and hone our skills so when this game launches we can roll out a massive de-forestation campaign to remove all available plant life.  This would leave us alone with the only remaining seeds.  And complete power over the entire world. MUAHAHAHAHAH!!!

You may say that but considering what some of the people in Dofus are like I can guarantee you that there will be groups of people trying to do just that. Even without doing it on purpose a lot of people all trying to lvl their char on mobs or profs by collecting resources could bring about the extinction of various things. Then if it were a real ecosystem the loss of one thing means others are also affected.

They've already tossed various important concepts for this game before it even hit open beta. Good chance that the idea that things can go extinct will be tossed as well.

Seriously? like Plants and Mobs on this game can be extinct at one point? wow

what will happen to a new player that join the game after 3 years of release to find out that, all the mobs in the database are mostly not there anymore

do they have some sort of a reincarnation for Mobs? say Mob A goes extinct, will there be new species to replace the extincted Mobs?

    So What Now?

That'd be a mighty interesting MMO.. Too bad the thing looks like a 20 year old isometric based title, which I never liked heh

Yes plants and mobs (most of them) can go extinct. However, since everything in this game (every single plant, mob, drop, EVERYTHING) can be used by someone or some crafter, there will always be guilds and governments that will do whatever they can to stop people from making an entire species extinct otherwise the economy takes a hit.

In fact, the devs will be giving the player-run government some tools to declare certain species as "endangered", making it a crime to kill a single one of them. Players tagged as criminals have a giant "KILL ME" sign over their head, and if anyone defeats them in a PvP fight, they get sent to jail and have to either serve their sentence or dig their way out.

It's a nice touch by the Dev, but still, it doesn't guarantee that most of the Eco will go extinct, usually there are lots of more selfish player than those of who really care for the game

also, having a Goverment doesn't mean the player will be nice, he can just take up the Goverment role for the sake of the power, he can just bribe every bad players to vote for him =P

    So What Now?

Sounds and looks pretty awesome to me, reminds me a lot of Dark Ages, and the player politcal/policing systems in that game weren't abused, so there is hope.

Although a different age group opperated it back then.. this generation of mmo'ers give me some reason to be concerned (like this thread for example) :x
